Sony Music Entertainment Japan Puns

If you are heavily invested in Japanese music, you probably have music from Sony Music Japan in your library. A lot of them are now inaccessible thanks to major f*ck up by Sony. I’ll explain below

Let rewind before the f*ck up. In a Japanese artist’s profile specifically under Sony Music, there’s two version of an album, international version and the Japanese version. This is the case in other streaming service as well. Back then, there’s only one, the international version which is probably what you have in your library. The Japanese version is region locked until recently.

Last year, Sony unlocked the Japanese version and made it available worldwide. This is good news to a lot of Japanese music fan because a lot of artist doesn't have international version available. The funny thing is they also unlocked it for artists that already have an international version available, which means there are now two version of an album in an artist’s page. In short, DUPLICATES. If you added a song before the they got rid of region lock, you have the international version. That is where the problem is.

Sony wants to fix the duplicates by getting rid of the international version. That’s the reason your music is not accessible right now. You have the international version in your library. Remember, there’s still the Japanese version which means it is not entirely gone but Apple Music treats them as separate version. This is a big problem especially for people with huge library of Sony music album. Deleting and re-adding is not an option to many people because it is time consuming, losing play count, rand it ruins a lot of playlist including Replay (this is Apple’s fault btw). This problem needs to be fix by Sony and Apple. Help me report it to feedback page and don’t forget to link this thread.

Sony music labels japan finally decided to put their catalog on YouTube Music! this started a couple of days ago but it all seems to be done now! now YT music and Spotify are level in that regard.
