A list of puns related to "Scott McCloud"
Hello! As the title suggests, I need someone to help me with my literature essay! You must have knowledge regarding Scott McCloud's "Understanding Comics" as it is essential for the paper (basically it will be an evaluation of a graphic novel basing on what he have said in his book). PDF of Understanding Comics is available just in case.
If you're interested, please message me asap! Graphic fiction to be evaluated is up to you! More detailed instructions is available!
This is due on Monday Nov 1 11:59 PM (Sorry for the late notice, but it can be extended until Wednesday night). My discord is akiko#0822
I could stare at the page with the pyramid showing form and abstract depictions of cartooning for hours, it's absolutely fascinating. What pages or parts stand out to you?
I know Will Eisner wrote Comics and Sequential Art, Graphic Storytelling and Visual Narrative, and Expressive Anatomy for Comics and Narrative: Principles and Practices from the Legendary Cartoonist. And Scott McCloud wrote Understanding Comics, Reinventing Comics, and Making Comics. I was wondering if there were any other books like that that are also really well done [Discussion]
Hi! I've got a couple of complete runs of some excellent comics today. Prices are firm but include shipping. U.S. only. I won't break these sets up. All of these issues are in perfectly nice condition for reading, but some have dings and ripples etc.; see the photos (and forgive their awful lighting, please).
JONATHAN HICKMAN'S COMPLETE FANTASTIC FOUR/FF (61 issues, $183)
Hickman's entire epic, as single issues (a couple of them are variants or 2nd printings)-- Dark Reign: Fantastic Four #1-5, Dark Reign: The Cabal #1, Fantastic Four #570-588, 600-611 and 605.1, and F.F. #1-23. https://imgur.com/CBNBjEI ; https://imgur.com/ljP8GTE ; https://imgur.com/EEctfJV ; https://imgur.com/4vZLbNi ; https://imgur.com/wo85YdO
THE COMPLETE ZOT! (37 issues, $111)
Scott McCloud is best known for Understanding Comics and its sequels, but this extraordinary 1984-1991 series made his name: it's one of the most delightful comics ever published. This set is the complete run: color issues #1-10, black-and-white issues #11-36, and Matt Feazell's ridiculous guest issue #14 1/2. https://imgur.com/V0R6EAQ ; https://imgur.com/khtUdca ; https://imgur.com/khtUdca ; https://imgur.com/lViagpp
Hi Reddit. Iβm mostly known for my non-fiction books like Understanding Comics, Reinventing Comics, and Making Comics. Also my early comic Zot!, the 24-Hour Comics, the Google Chrome comic, some weird webcomics at scottmccloud.com, and talking about digital comics a lot back in the early β00s.
My obscenely huge graphic novel The Sculptor came out a couple of weeks ago and I just went to 14 cities in 16 days, so Iβm really sleep-deprived. Good news for you, because I might be a little punchy and easily thrown off-guard. Could be entertaining, could end in tears, I have no idea.
To be honest, this is kinda awkward timing on two fronts. My wife and I just realized we have to start driving frantically Eastward from California at noon and we might hit some crappy reception. Also I canβt talk about that movie deal you mightβve heard about yesterday. Too soon, sorry. Call it an AMA-EATMD if you have to.
THE PLAN:
IF reception is available on the road, Iβm going to try answering questions a little bit mid-afternoon. Then, around 7 or 8 pm PST, Iβll dig in more at dinner time. Then Iβll do one last session later tonight before going to bed in our hotel, wherever that is.
Fire away!
(On Twitter as @scottmccloud. Iβll tweet this AMA so you know itβs really me)
UPDATE: (3:37 pm PST - Between Victorville, CA and Barstow, CA) Going to try a few answers but might lose reception. More when we stop for dinner then a LOT more when we stop for the night. Might be late though.
UPDATE: (8:13 pm Mountain Time - Kingman AZ) Stopped driving for the night, and FINALLY have a working Connection! Will answer 'til I drop.
UPDATE: (12:58 am Mountain Time - still in Kingman) ...and Done! Thank you, Everybody. You were fantastic. Will check in tomorrow (which is technically today, Friday Feb 20, 2015) for any follow-ups. Sleep well!
Well, my question is in the title of this post. I searched extensively but couldn't find Understanding, Making and Reinventing in one single book. I suspect it doesn't exist.
Can someone please tell me I'm wrong?
Hey there Art Fans,
This week we will be discussing "The Sculptor" by Scott McCloud. I recently finished reading this book for the first time and I have to say this book is a masterpiece. What else COULD it be coming from the man who literally wrote the book on understanding graphic novels.
The story is about David Smith, a young man who had a promising career in the art world and lost it all. Now he's a nobody, even sharing a common name with thousands of other people, who is essentially just barreling through life as recklessly as he can. He eventually meets Death and makes a deal that he can sculpt anything he wants using only his hands, BUT he only has 200 days to use it because Death will claim him after his time is up. David roller coasters through different aspects of his life, trying to gain back his credit as an artist and wallowing in his own self pity when things don't turn out the way he wanted.
I really enjoyed this book a great deal. I thought it took some interesting twists and turns that really had me in the dark, even though a lot of the set up for those turns were typical tropes. One of the big things that I really enjoyed was making the female character, Meg, a typical dream girl type, having her comply with the typical dream girl trope that we see a lot, but having her fate at the end so flawlessly bookend a story that saw a lot of emotion already. It's not one of those "...and they (or at least one of them) lived happily ever after stories, it's not even one of those "and he got over it and moved on with his life..." stories. The ending perfectly summed up what his life was about (just think about the name he shares with the cop...)
Scott McCloud, in my opinion of course, wrote this book to play with stereotypes and tropes. He wasn't looking to break free from the chains and produce some absurdly unrecognizable creative work, I believe he was simply trying to tweak certain things so that it followed the rules but had these short little bends that were enough to keep us guessing.
The art is fantastic as well, truly in McCloud style. I think one of the standout things about this book is not so much the technical ability Scott has but more the camera shots and angles he chooses to use. There are some very interesting shots that made me stop and question why he chose it or what it says about the scene. A common shot that was seen was the street view angle; slightly tilted to one side to give an uneasy feeling and often not even fea
... keep reading on reddit β‘Dear Redditors, For my thesis I copied scott mcclouds "picture plane" (this triangle with abstractrion and iconigraphy), but I forgot to write down the page number. Since I am too lazy to walk to the library again, I'd be very thankful if someone who owns the book could look up the page number! Thanks a lot! I was just reading an article about the special team matchup between Clemson and Bama and the article had Ray Ray listed as Clemson's returner. As someone who watches every Clemson game I remember him having an awful game and getting replaced by Scott I just can't remember which one.
Edit: I blame Rae Sremmurd
