As a little girl, I always loved the NFL, I still do actually. I will forever be a Green Bay Packer's fan and will forever vouch for how Aaron Rodgers is the greatest quarterback of all time, and I always secretly wanted to become a football player sometimes. But we all know, societal norms and judgement usually keep women out of all big-league football, which always what kept me from signing up.
That might be changing.
Today, in an absolute blowout, the Vanderbilt kicker was able to score two extra points to help aid their team's score from being somehow more horrendous. But this time, the kicker made history, because the kicker was a girl named Sarah Fuller, and she gives me hope for equality in sports.
I know my years of college and my peak 'athletic' form are long behind me, but I know some girls are out there, and they all have been ushered the same notion of. "This isn't only a men's game, you can go out there and kick ass like the Peyton Manning's, Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady's of the world." Sarah Fuller might not be the flashiest player, for god sake, she is a kicker on an atrocious team that is currently staring at a 0-9 record, but for all I know, someone has been inspired, and that is a huge first step.
