On the origin of Aryan and its usage as a racial term?

Follow up from my prior thread about this question, someone mentioned the name "Heryos" as a cognate for Arya. I googled the word and reached to this pdf.

It appears to provide many examples for my main question of my original thread on this sub!

I'm no linguistic and the pdf does not have an author name. So I can't say anything about its quality or its veracity. Like it considers Aristrocracy or Ehre (in German) or ploughing to cognate with Aryan. So can you guys investigate its claims?

I paste the raw text of that pdf here in case it gets deleted from its archive source:

>Aryan = Ancient Racial Term
>
>Although the traditional useage by academics of the term 'Aryan' went out of fashion for political reasons after 1 945 mainly due to its association with the Racial Science of the Third Reich the term has been in use by a number of writers since then and used in its traditional sense.
>
>One of the reasons why it is rejected by the 'liberal" elite[the 1968 anarchist middle class student generation] is because it is a value loaded term with great significance. Let us examine the possible meanings now.
>
>J.B. Mallory and D.Q. Adams in The Oxford Introduction To Proto-Indo-European and the Proto-Indo-European World state that the term 'Aryan' or ' Arya' derives from the reconstructed Proto-Indo-European[PIE] term h4eros or h4eryos which has the general meaning of "member of one's own group" which in itself is almost an admission that it is an ethnic term.
>
>The Hittite ara- means "member of one's own group, peer, friend". The Lycian arus means "citizens", Old Irish aire "freeman", the Avestan airya and the Sanskrit arya "faithful".
>
>Mallory and Adams state quite clearly "The evidence suggests that the word was, at least initially, one that denoted one who belongs to the community in contrast to an outsider; a derivative of the word is found in the Hittite ara' [what is] fitting' and natta ara 'not right'.

CMV: The 'n-word' is worse than the term 'cracker' as a racial pejorative

*I use "worse" in the title for lack of a better word

Inspired from the recent debacle with Twitch streamer Hasan Piker...

First let me be clear, both words are racial slurs, and should be avoided as much as possible. I will be talking about these two words in terms of the general understanding of their historical usage in the US rather than etymological foundations and *true* origin as I don't believe that has much relevance to their contemporary use in the US.

It all comes down to cultural usage and historical context IMO. The N word was used by the oppressive majority for centuries in the US in order to demean, dehumanize, abuse, and murder an already powerless and abused social minority. Even in the years/decades/centuries that followed abolition, the N word continued to be used by white people (who remained the social and political majority) in order to justify/aid in the abhorrent maltreatment of Black Americans.

The word cracker was used by a range of people in early and contemporary America. Cracker was often used a humorous term of self-description in early middle America. As a pejorative, it was often used by enslaved blacks in reference to their white masters, and it has been theorized that the term originated as a result of the cracking sound of a whip although their are conflicting ideas about that so this point isn't all too important.

To me the difference couldn't be clearer. One is a term that was connected with one of the most horrific acts of crime in the developed world, and the other was what I would consider "verbal self-defense" (and it didn't aid in promoting nearly the same level of hate, torture, and systematic oppresion)

If we're so against racism, why do we still racial terms?

The idea of race as we know it today was popularised by Christophe Meiners as a way of justifying slavery. This is the "cacuasian, "mongoloid" negroid" and "austroloid" that have long since been debunked as false. If we stopped referring to people as black, white and Asian, we'd eventually stop seeing them as separate to us.

Political slogans and short-term measures to eliminate racial discrimination in the United States cannot just do these two things

Original Title: Global Observation丨Political slogans and short-term measures to eliminate racial discrimination in the United States cannot only do these two things

March 21 is the "International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination" determined by the United Nations. The serial case of six Asian women being shot and killed just a few days ago in Atlanta, USA, undoubtedly put a thick layer of "blood" on this International Day of Remembrance this year.

On the 20th local time, many places in the United States, including Atlanta, held parades and rallies with the theme "Stop Hatred for Asians" to protest the Atlanta bloody and the recent surge in "Asian hatred" crimes in the United States. Angry people call on the U.S. government and law enforcement agencies not to just show "political posture"-"You must do something practical!"

The Atlanta shooting that claimed the lives of 6 Asian women greatly shocked Asian communities across the United States. Many Asian people have reported that since the outbreak of the new crown pneumonia in the United States, they have to face hatred and prejudice from time to time. Frequent incidents of harassment and harm in daily life make Asian groups generally live in panic.

For example, last week, the glass facade of an Asian-owned restaurant in Texas was smeared with racial discrimination and offensive language. The shop owner, Mike, said worriedly at the time that there were concerns that hate crimes against Asians would further escalate, and that Asians might suffer physical harm or even be killed in the future.

A few hours before the Atlanta shooting, the US anti-discrimination organization "Stop Hate Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders" (Stop AAPI Hate) issued a report also pointed out that anti-Asian sentiment in the United States is high, and there are cases of discrimination and harassment. With each passing day, this trend has made people deeply frightened.

The report said that from March 19 last year to February 28 this year, the organization received 3,795 reports of various types of discrimination against Asian groups.

The report also shows that ethnic Chinese are the most attacked Asian group, accounting for 42.2% of the total.

The report specifically emphasizes that the number of "Qiaoya" incidents reported by the organization is only a small part of the actual hate incidents.

Min Sambo är strulig och lat

** UPDATE**

(SENSITIVE) With people voicing out their criticisms about SAP schools, what separates Madrasahs from an SAP school in terms of the cultural/racial/religious homogeneity?

I am not sure how to better phrase this question. I've seen posts here about how SAP schools are elitist because they only accept Chinese students who score well. This is a very simplified explanation. However, that got me wondering about Madrasahs. Why are Madrasahs different/not part of the conversation on the homogeneity of schools?

One possible reason I can think of is that they have a different curriculum with an expectation of Islamic studies. However, how about SAP schools? Don't they also have a focus on Chinese culture (or an attempt thereof)?

Does this mean that if everyone in an SAP school were forced to take a Chinese-specific course, it would better justify their existence?

Derogatory Racial Terms

The Humans in the Witcherverse are pretty racist, that's no secret.
What is some terminology you guys have read, heard, or can think of that fits in the Witcherverse?
I know elves have been called "Knife-ears," but so far that's the most derogatory term I've got.
I'd like really play up the racial tensions in this game and use them to help pepper grey areas in moral choices for my pcs.
What would humans call the other races? Dwarves, Gnomes, Halflings, Vran, Werrebubbs, etc.?
