The Hind and Apache might draw me in if I can find a good cyclic. I know Virpil is making a few collectives and they have good quality. Not sure about cyclics though... I have a Mongoose T-50 CM2 Base that I love. Would putting light springs be the best experience in y’all’s opinion?

What's the physical limit on the noise volume of a rotorcraft?

So a major problem with drone delivery is that drones are pretty loud per kg carried, and if we have several drone trips per person per week, the noise pollution problem in dense cities will start to become unmanageable. Which got me thinking about how much the noise is avoidable, which made me realize I don't really understand the relevant physics. Is noise unavoidable given turbulent airflow around the rotor blades? How much could you mitigate it by using low-friction bearings, and how much is inherently aerodynamic? Could you use two rotors out of phase so each actively cancels out sound from the other?

Curious about Ingenuity - Are rotorcraft feasible for any role in mars exploration other than tech demonstrator?

I know this subreddit is tiny but I figure the people who are here probably know quite a bit about the new Mars helicopter, Ingenuity. I first want to say that I think Ingenuity is absolutely incredible and I still can't believe we may soon have our first rotor flight on another planet.

What I'm curious about though, is whether rotorcraft are really valid for future mars exploration architectures or the constraints of the planet mean that Ingenuities tiny form factor (4 lb weight, 2400 rpm rotors, 90 second flight) is the only size that can ever be feasible with such a thin atmosphere.

Am I wrong about this because with increasingly light materials and higher capacity batteries, we'll be able to increase flight times in successive martian rotorcraft until they can potentially start doing more autonomous exploration, only occasionally returning to the rover? Or is having an eye in the sky for route planning and mapping so value for rovers that even something as small and short duration as ingenuity is valuable enough to become a standard on rover missions?

The VFW-Fokker H3 Sprinter was a single-engined experimental rotorcraft designed and built in West Germany. Two aircraft were produced by VFW-Fokker in the early 1970s, registered D-9543 and D-9544. Intended as the first of a family of tip-jet driven helicopters the two H3 prototypes flew briefly.
