A list of puns related to "Remote Desktop Protocol"
How do remote desktop protocols work? Do they just capture the image of the desktop, the screen layer, and pass it as a continuous stream over the internet like streaming a video, or is it more complex?
Which is best? Which is most stable, reliable and fast, due to the way itβs designed? X11 forwarding over SSH?
Thanks
Iβm currently using a 8gb 7core gpu m1 air.
I nust found that wireless sixecar with remote desktop (whichever protocol you use) results and poor performance in the remote desktop. The MBA is still snappy but you lose a lot of performance in the remote desktop instance.
It seems better if my sidecar is plugged in directly. If you can test this out or have something to add please state it here.
Hopefully this is the right subreddit....
Let me preface to say, this is a domain environment, with Windows 2016 server, all client computers running Windows 10 Pro version 2004. I will also preface, NO changes have occurred lately on the network - no software changes, firmware changes, or network appliance changes. The environment running perfectly fine then all of a sudden BAM....All RDP client connections to remote server are slow and disconnecting.....
Users reported having issues with RDP client trying to access remote server. When the session starts, the session is slow, sluggish, typically unresponsive with keyboard or mouse input. Then all of a sudden the session ends and the user is dropped and kicked out of the session. There are no error messages or dialog boxes, just the session ending and disconnecting. At the top of the remote window where it shows the network/server address you are remoted into, to the left is the connection bar status symbol that shows only 1 out of 4 bars white, indicating low connectivity. Clicking on the connection status symbol, it says: "The quality of the connection to the remote computer is poor and UDP enabled."
Reboot of the computers and local server (domain controller) have taken place. A reboot of the network switch, gateway/modem, and firewall appliance all took place - twice. Network cables were swapped out with different cables. Rather than plugging network cables into wall jacks, ran network cable straight from computer RJ-45 jack on computer straight into network switch directly. Ran network speed test - reports solid connection of 120Mbps download, average 30 Mbps upload. Disabled antivirus on local computer(s). Reviewed firewall rules, allowing incoming connections for UDP and HTTP/TCP of Remote Desktop Services. Examined and did ping tests of remote server - tested network connection on server. This just all randomly happened today. No other changes have taken place.
Does anyone have any tips at all what might have gone haywire or what may be tripping everything up? Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.
Anyone Else Getting "Protocol Error" When Trying to Connect to Hosts Using Remote Desktop Connection From Within a WVD Host Session, After Upgrading to Remote Desktop v1.2.1844.0 ?
I upgraded when prompted last night and started seeing a lot of these errors. Other users have also begun reporting this. This is not a resource issue on the WVD host as it has plenty of free RAM, CPU capacity, etc. It looks a bit like it could be another buggy Microsoft update.
I don't like how VNC mirrors the screen, since my main machine runs at a higher resolution than the client machine I'm remoting in from (a small laptop). Down-scaling just wastes resources and doesn't always look good, and I'm certainly not going to keep it at normal resolution and pan around.
Is there a simple-to-setup protocol similar to RDP wherein the remote client gets a new session/profile, like in Windows?
My laptop recently passed. The funeral has been had, the appropriate mourning period has passed, and now I need to know what to do!
My desktop is l33t, running max everything. Can I remote into my desktop over my wifi network and get enough framerate to farm, craft, gtn? I know I cant op or pvp, but simple stuff? I have a work laptop with standard inboard video, no gpu, to remote with as well as phones and tablets. :) Thanks!!
Thanks!!
The main ones I've heard of are X forwarding over ssh, X2GO, NX, no machine, and XPRA. Perhaps there are others. I'm looking for something which is easy to get up and running (Fedora 30), reliable, works well over WiFi (low bandwidth), and creates a new session rather than controls the active session.
Hi r/AutoHotkey
Recently discovered the awesomeness of AutoHotkey, and want to use it on the work computer for work software.
The current setup is every person at work has a computer with generic User login, and then they need to log in via Windows RDP onto the Remote Server. On that, there is all the work - in this case medical - software that we use.
Previously I wanted to utilise StreamDeck, which the computer support admin installed. Unfortunately the Server wouldn't recognise the actual hardware plugged into the physical computer I was using - so that meant even though the StreamDeck software could be opened on the Server, it wouldn't register any hardware let alone any inputs :(
On my home computer, I have AutoHotkey with some macros setup. By having the following RDP Settings - "Local Resources" "Keyboard - Apply Windows Key Combinations - ON THIS COMPUTER"
It works, in the sense the Macros do run when logged into the server. The annoying thing about this workaround is that it means every time I do things like use the WINDOWS key - it opens the start menu on my home computer - not the server. Likewise ALT+TAB switches between programs on the home computer, even when pressed in a full screen server session.
Thus it makes sense to have AutoHotkey and the scripts installed on the actual server to be run. However the system admin disagrees and doesn't think it will work if installed on the RDP server based on research he's done. Therefore I would really appreciate if you could clarify what the best solution is here - if we want to have AutoHotkey capabilities on the RDP server to use on RDP server software.
Cheers!
I have tested NoMachine's NX, and while it had more features than RDP, it kind of looked like VNC, that is, the whole screen seemed to be compressed (I could see the jitter) as if a video. There seems to be X2Go, but according to Wikipedia, it uses the same NX technology.
On the other hand, as far as I know, Windows' RDP does not just compress the whole screen but sort of sends drawing data to the client, so the text looks clear and there is no jitter. My idea is confirmed by this answer on SuperUser.
Is there protocol that does that on Linux? I mean, in case of Linux (server) -> Windows (client), the Linux sends drawing data, not the movie of the screen to the Windows client, like RDP. I do not mind the limitations of RDP such as that the remote screen getting locked or not being able to connect from multiple clients at the same time. If there is no such thing for Linux, I can use NX, but I just wanted to make sure.
one or two weeks ago there was patch for latest version of 1809, I have been experience nasty black screen on my rdp sessions, others with same issue?. It's not the servers or client, Tested on multiple setups with latest version of windows 10 17763.379 .
If i where to let the RDP session be on multimonitor(2nd screen) and let it be in the foreground, the session would not go black, however minimizing the rdp session would make it go black, and the solution would be to close it and connect again, really annoying.

Hello Everyone ;
I have a problem and i would like someone can help me to give me a good idea for my problem ,
I have 15 people in other state working trough the RPD in the same Server at the same time they uses the resources of the server and the people on the LAN has much interrupt when they are working with different systemsΒ in the server. I would like one solution that those people out of the company can work without connected toΒ through RDP.
is it possible to connect to my rdp (pc) from my xbox? is there an app?
HI,
I am looking for a Remote Desktop client that runs on Windows and supports the ARD protocol. So far, the only two I have found are Remote Desktop Manager and Remotix. I moved away from the former because its expensive and needs to be renewed almost yearly. Remotix is good but I have been having some issues with it recently and am looking for a backup option.
I would have loved if Royal TS supported ARD out of the box but it does not do so. I looked at Dameware but it only supports VNC and not ARD. I am fine paying upto $300 as a one-time fee or staying close to $75 a year if its a subscription based model.
Thanks!
Good morning,
I just published a new video in my Introduction to Windows Forensics series, for those who may be interested:
