Familial, Sporadic, Early-onset, Late-onset, childhood-onset and adult-onset essentail tremor have similar pathological changes in the cerebellum vs. controls. This includes lower Purkinje cell counts.
Would increasing the number of Purkinje cells or rescuing degenerating Purkinje cells ameliorate essential tremor?
Stem cell therapy has the potential to answer this question. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are able to ameliorate cerebellar pathology. MSCs can fuse with degenerating Purkinje cells.
