A list of puns related to "Prognathism"
I started mewing 7 days ago and i've been wondering if its the right desicion.
My mandible is slightly in front compared with my maxilla.
I'm afraid that mewing can make my mandible go even further making a bigger difference so i really don't know what should i do.
Iβve recently bought a lovebird who how has beak prognathism (little underbite. Itβs not too bad considering he is chewing my phone case as Iβm typing but I was just wondering if anybody has kept birds with similar deformities and had any advice :) thankyou
So I have this really pronounced jaw, and I wonder if such methods would incur in any benefits. I also so mouth breathing, since it is common for my nose to either be very loud when breathing or it just being stuffed.
I can send pics if required
Hi Reddit. I've just recently discovered of this section of Reddit (and Reddit as a whole) and I thought I could contribute.
In brief: In october 2011 I had surgery for my underbite that I have had for almost all my life. My underbite at the time of the surgery was about 1,6 cm from the upper jaw. It was corrected by relocating my upper jaw as far as possible (about 1 cm) and then the lower jaw was pushed back for the remaining 6 mm. They had to saw my upper jaw into two pieces to pushed it forward and to expand its width so it fits my teeth of my lower jaw. I had a fixed jaw for 6 weeks after the surgery.
If there's anything you guys wonder that I could answer, AMA.

Hello, I just have a quick question regarding the "Habsburg Lip/Jaw". So throughout the late 15th through to the beginning of the 18th century, both lines of the v. Habsburg family were afflicted with serious mandibular prognathism often resulting in difficulty performing day to day tasks; we now know that this was a result of extensive inbreeding in an attempt to contain their massive holdings throughout Europe. Even as late as Emperor Karl VI (born 1685), were they still suffering from a protruding bottom jaw. However, come the end of the 18th century, none of the artistic depictions of contemporary Habsburgs show any signs of this deformity - and this is despite still practicing intra-dynastic marriages. For example, both Emperor Joseph II and Leopold II do not show any protrusion despite their grandfather having had the condition. Furthermore, it does not appear to present itself in any v. Habsburgs since.
One thing I have thought of recently is that the disappearance of the Habsburg Lip from artistic representations of v. Habsburgs coincides well with the period marked by the beginning of the House of Habsburg-Lothringen (caused by the endings of the main Austrian and Spanish lines). To put all of this text in a couple questions:
Did the v. Habsburgs eventually understand that their constant inbreeding led to a greater risk of severe mental and physical deficiencies?
Did the extinction of both the Spanish and Austrian Houses of Habsburg cause the disappearance of the Habsburg Lip due to the fact that the most inbred lines were wiped out?
Thank you in advance.
Hi, i'm 17 year old and I started mewing a month ago and my front teeth used to touch before i started now I can't make them touch anymore and i'm so scared of fucking my teeth up , I never apply force with my tongue to my upper front teeth but it touches them also i noticed that my laugh lines almost disappeared now anyways here are the pics of my teeth pressed together now post mewing : https://imgur.com/a/bvJmtCI
Please help me i'm so scared I can't stop thinking about it
I'm a student in Human Species and am really struggling to find information online about prognathism and why it happened and why Australopithecus developed this trait.
I've been practicing on producing an alveolar trill, but while most guides and suggestions ask to place the tongue on the alveolar ridge, for me I find it slightly tiring/unnatural to touch it there. When I personally pronounce "t" or "d" my tongue actually touches the back of my upper teeth. Should I be using my own position or does it have to be along the alveolar ridge?
Secondly, my tongue doesn't seem to flap no matter how much air I give it, like... when air passes through, my tongue just lowers and lets it through. Should I be pressing harder? Or is my tongue not relaxed enough? How do I know if my tongue is relaxed??
Thanks.
So my orthodontist said he could reduce the maxillary protrusion. I was wondering if you think I have any? He doesn't think its too prominent
Dear all, I have a serious prognathism case, and wouldn't do the surgery unless totally unavoidable. Every dentist I've been to (all in SΓ£o Paulo, Brazil) tells me I need the operation, but I have faith I'll find different opinions and suggestions on how to prevent risks and improve my chew in a less invasive way. Would you pass me some tips, if there are any, on how to live happily moon-faced?
Cheers, Arthur
Hey everyone - this is a recent x-ray of my jaw. http://imgur.com/QuinM8Y I'm wondering if you guys agree about my treatment plans for mandibular prognathism. I live abroad and am not 100% clear about my condition. My orthodontist here says my jaw/alignment issues can be treated with a few months of braces. However, my dentist in the US called the issue a surgical case. Both agree I have malocclusion stage III. I'm conflicted about what to do. I have more x-rays if useful. I'm not an expert by any means so I'm not sure which x-rays are most useful for TMJ/alignment issues. I don't feel pain or have serious issues chewing, etc., so I'm reluctant to go for extreme treatment if it's avoidable. At this point I'm more concerned about preserving my teeth and, to a lesser degree, general aesthetics issues. Particularly the longish-seeming chin! Is that unusual? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Does mewing fix prognathic lower jaw or does it move even more forward?

I canβt even look at myself in the mirror without being reminded of this. My brother, mother, sister and father all have regular faces, so why did I turn out different

Incredible. You look great! I have a slight underbite case, they wanted to break and reset my jaw, never got insurance to cover it and definitely cAnt afford the surgery myself. | I'm sorry to hear that your economical situation hinders you from doing your surgery. I hope you either handles your current situation in a way that works out in a positive way for you or that your insurance company decides to change their attitude. Hang in there :) |
Was it weird after seeing such an amazing transformation on your face? I mean, you've gotta like your new looks, it' looks so much better to me. | It was really weird and different! I'm still not totally used to it even though it was 6 months ago. I really like how it came out and I feel like a new person and I always felt like "that guy with the underbite" but now that isn't an issue anymore. I'm more confident and outgoing than what I was pre-surgery. |
Has it been, or was it afterwards, difficult to chew, talk, etc? | When I had my jaws freed I had major difficulties eating and talking and moving my jaws at all. The muscles were so stiffed from being in the same position in 6 weeks. I started eating challenging foods right away, like nuggets and hot dogs. Purely beause if I didn't do it it would take even longer to get my muscles relaxed. Talking is still a bit tricky since I learned all my pronunciations with an underbite and now all suddenly I have to learn to pronounce things again. Saying air/ear/stairs are all very hard still and /th/ pronunciations becomes /f/. Still learning and progressing every day tho! :) |
How has your outlook on life changed since the surgery? Do you find you have more self confidence? | All for the better. I had MAJOR issues because of my underbite and I feel more confident |
