A list of puns related to "Placenta praevia"
I know either is not a big deal, but Iβm so nervous and worried. Any mama had the same situation? Anything I can do to correct placenta praevia before 28 weeks?
I just had the 20-week scan last week and they have diagnosed me with a low lying placenta, the scan itself was an awful experience with this person that performed it. After the scan, we saw a midwife, but she seemed like she had no idea of what it means because all she said to me was that only 1 in 200 people will still have a placenta praevia. I have read online about what it means, and it is all ok as far as I can tell. Has anyone been diagnosed with Placenta Praevia at the 32-week scan and what was your experience giving birth?
I was diagnosed with placenta praevia with and so far it looks as though the placenta is attached to my old c-section scar and just this afternoon was also diagnosed with early aging placenta. I am lost because she said I am only grade two with confidence after saying there was 4 stages so I am assuming she actually means grade 1 as the scale goes from 0 to 3. I would be lying if I said I am not scared for what may happen but has anyone else gone through or is going through this? I really need support and prayers right now I am so scared for my baby.
I went in for an ultrasound this week and they measured the baby. Everything was fine until they told me that my cervix is covered by the placenta. I wasn't told to do anything special or different from my doctor. I am scheduled for another ultrasound 10 weeks from now to determine if the placenta has moved away from my cervix for a natural birth or not.
I researched online a bit to see what I can do or what causes it. I'm taking certain medications (sorry I don't want to disclose everything) but I do take Adderall 20mg. I read a paper that amphetamines can cause placenta abruption which I'm not sure if this relates to the placenta praevia. I'm going to try to get off the Adderall slowly (I can't go cold turkey because it's extremely difficult).
My doctor didn't say anything about stopping but I'm wondering if any sort of stimulant (I read online one of the causes is cocaine which is a stimulant) can be a reason behind it. I also drink about 200mg of coffee daily.
Basically, I feel TERRIBLE if it's my medication causing this but it seems the baby is fine and the placenta itself is healthy. I'm just afraid I'll need a C-section.
Has anyone been on Adderall and had the same issues? What did you end up doing?
So at my anatomy scan, doc told me the placenta was very low lying. Nothing to worry about for now but we are having another scan at 30 weeks to check if it goes back up (Currently at 22 weeks , FTM). However if the situation does not change, I'd have to stop work probably right away. Since it's uncertain, and it's quite a common situation and 95% of the time it resolves according to my doctor, should I warn my employer now that I might leave sooner than anticipated or should I wait for the scan?
Thank you all for your replies
So, a little background first: we've just had our 28 week scan which showed the placenta praevia hasn't moved since the 24 week scan. We live in China, so for me, communication from doctors is non-existent, and we don't have our own doctor, we're basically just a number at the moment, so even for my wife there's very little personal care.
From the research I've done myself, it would seem that it's now very likely we'll be having a C-section, which is ok with both of us. However the likelihood the baby will be born early is also increased, and I've no way of finding out what care the hospital offers for that, or what I should expect the hospital to offer. I've read that depending on the seriousness of the placenta praevia, which can get worse than the stage that we're at, the C-section may have to be performed at any time from week 34, probably week 38 at the latest. Is this true? What should I expect from hospitals caring for premature babies?
My wife seems to be stressed enough; just running suggestions by her is causing arguments just now, so I want to be able to take care of whatever I can with as little hassle for her as possibke. What can I do to prepare for the worst? And what can I do to better care of her. I read that lots of red meat and leafy greens are important which I am taking care of. What else should I be doing?
Has anyone had any experience with placenta praevia? And does anyone have any suggestions for how best to prepare, logistically and psycologically, for a premature birth?
Thank you in advance
We had our 36 week scan today to see if my placenta had moved away from the cervix. At the 20 week scan they said the placenta was covering the cervix and if it didn't move we needed a c-section (as the exit is blocked). But it has moved away! So we can have a natural birth :) I hope this gives other mothers-to-be that have placenta praevia some hope (remember that 95% move out of the way) :)
I'm really worried now because the baby is as healthy as it could possibly be at 19 weeks. After all the love I already have for my little girl there is no way I could deal with losing her. Any advice or anything is appreciated.
I'm 24 W 1 D and I told my husband that he had to leave our home indefinitely today. I have been diagnosed with placenta praevia and vasa praevia and am expecting a caesarian at 36 W. I'm not supposed to do any lifting, very limited walking, and am on pelvic rest (no touching in my bathing suit area). I don't know what I'm going to do. I can't even buy groceries on my own. I do know that I can't take my husband back. I'm going to have to go back to work as soon as I have healed, and I already don't make much money. I have no idea how I'm going to support myself and the baby now, not that he would have been any great help. I'm scared and I can't sleep, and I have to get up for work in 2 hours. I'm not even sure how I thought that posting here would help, but I guess I just have to tell someone.
Hi all, throwaway here...
I'm in a bit of a unknown, I just want a bit of conversion. My wife is at 13 weeks and was just told that she may have placenta praevia, which is when the placenta forms at the entrance of uterus. It isn't confirmed, since it's too early yet, but the signs are there. My wife is 41, so age is a factor here too.
However, we're scheduled to travel internationally in 2 days, 18 hr trip each way.
The doctor had told her to take things easy, and not exercise, since there is an increase risk of miscarriage. The doctor hasn't said no to the trip, but has recommended to reschedule.
Due to the nature of the tickets, modifications of the ticket is not allowed, so if we don't travel, we lose the tickets, and rescheduling the trip means in a year or more. Our trip was so that we could meet my niece and for me to probably see my grandma for the last time. Also, for my daughter to meet my grandma again now that she may remember (she's now 3).
I really don't know what to do, I don't have many people to talk to, or to ask advice from. I just wanted a bit of a conversation here, if anyone has had this, what was your experience.

UK Bumper. At my 20 week scan, it was noticed I had a low lying placenta. 2 weeks ago, I failed my GD test and am now in 2 weekly visits to the diabetic clinic. Things I have been told/educated myself on:
If my GD is controlled without meds, I won't be allowed to go past my due date. Currently 6th Jan 2016. If my GD is controlled with meds, I won't be allowed to go past 38 weeks, which puts me at....wait for it...23rd December. 2 days before Xmas. Yay. I have a scan on 25/11/15 to see if my placenta has moved. If not, after some research on my part about the situation, then they won't let me go past 37 weeks, and that will be a c-section. That will make 37 weeks on 16th Dec.
I know, i won't know about the placenta placement for a while yet. But I want to be prepped for the fact that I will likely have to have a c-section, because with my 1st, I was terrified, didn't know what was happening or what questions to ask. Add to that, the fact I'll be having antibiotics in labor due to GBS with my first born. Part of me thinks it may be all round safer to discuss an elective c-section with my consultant when i see her in Dec. Has anyone been even close to this situation, and have some insight? Experiences? Would be a lot of help if so!
I've recently done obstetrics and I was on r/aww, and it struck me that some mammals have huge litters. Human pregnancies consisting of twins/triplets etc. is risk factor for obstetric complications such as the ones I mentioned in the question. Just wondered if there was any evidence at all?
Hi! Asking for a friend who is 22 weeks pregnant diagnosed with complete placenta previa, possible placenta accreta and just getting over COVID. So much all at once! She is looking for positive outcomes as she is understandably very scared for her and the baby. She is wondering if anyone had placental issues after having COVID. Also wondering if anyone had to have a hysterectomy due to accreta. She is going to see a specialist in Boston this week. Thanks in advance.
My wife is 37th week and we have scheduled c-section in Monday because the baby girl is breeched.
She has been sad all the time because she expected the birth will go naturally. Most of her concerns are about the future pregnancies and having three kids, then will she ever be able to give a birth naturally again, then her lean pcos diagnosis and future pregnancies considering the c-section, etc.
She thinks of c-sections are somewhat harmful. How can I help her feel better?
Finally getting around to posting my birth story! Edwin was born at 6:22pm on Boxing Day, weighing 3.3kg (7lb4), measuring 47cm long, HC 33.5cm.
This is very long - I get very carried away when telling a story, and I love reading all the details in others' birth stories! So, apologies in advance. I've also posted this to the January bumpers group, so again, apologies for repeating.
Short summary: Tightenings and some vaginal bleeding started at 11:55pm on Christmas Eve, water broke at 3am Boxing Day with regular painful contractions kicking in immediately. 3-4cm dilated by 5am. Still 4cm at 12pm, but completely effaced and baby in great position. Considering c-section at this point given my last labour stalled at 6-7cm with the drip and midwife didn't want to flog baby and me unnecessarily. Dr felt we had a good chance and encouraged us to try. Syntocin started at 12:30pm, contractions immediately ramping up so gas started for pain relief. Flew from 4 to 6cm in less than an hour (melting down in the process to a whimpering wreck on the bed), epidural placed by 2:30pm. Fully dilated at 4:30pm, laboured down for a bit so he could descend, pushing started at 5:55pm and out he came in just under half an hour.
Long version
Background
My daughter was born by c-section nearly six years ago (I posted about it here in Babybumps!). I was hoping for a vaginal birth and had chosen to go with midwifery-led care at a birth centre. I went into labour with her on her due date, but had a very long latent phase with regular contractions, getting to 2cm over 2.5 days. The midwives pushed me to augment at that point and get an epidural because they wanted me to rest. I didn't want to do either of those things, but was told it was the only way to avoid a c-section. We went ahead, made it to 6-7cm and stalled. A c-section was performed due to failure to progress, the reason given to me being: "We have to draw a line somewhere" despite my pleas to be allowed to continue. I really struggled to process it all. At first I was very fixated on the fact that I didn't get to experience a vaginal delivery. Over time, I came to realise that I was grieving more than that: the experience of active labour, being active in managing my labour, having agency and support, and feeling consulted and advised appropriately. If you asked me to describe labour, I would have said "lonely". I encouraged my husband to sleep because I needed him to be in good shape at the pointy end, but that meant

... keep reading on reddit β‘Edit: step 1 experience, Day 1: As many people said, there is no way to prepare for the unexpected step 1-esque questions. I have the feeling that day 1 is a "playground" for NBME to test new USMLE Step 1 questions. But there are also questions which we ALL probably saw on Step 1/2 already (for me it was the nose ulcer with Trypanosomas - I seriously had the same Q on all 3 steps! the first two times I screwed it up, now I finally got it right).
But these "USMLE 1" type questions do not make more than 20-30% of the exam.... For all the other questions: UWORLD Step 3 is golden, and prepares you very well. There were many biostatistics and study design/ ethics question of course, but there were also many risk factors. JUST STUDY WITH UWORLD and their biostats package and you should be good. There is simply no way to prepare for the day 1 otherwise. Again: UWORLD UWORLD and UWORLD Step 3.
Some of the questions are poorly written (as people said before), it is really a low blow by NBME. Like in one question they probably mixed up g with mg (protein in urine/24h), in another they swapped the order of arterial blood gas pre and post intervention (like 1. pO2, 2. pCO2 --> pCO2, pO2). This is not only stupid but also demotivating and aggravating, considering the fact that we pay so much for these exams and they are not able to "clean up" the format.
But again, Uworld prepares you very well. Most of the questions are very similar to Uworld: Convoluted, with many diagnoses, many risk factors, many drugs etc. At one point I stopped reading the vignette and just looked only at answer choices and tried to pick buzzwords from the question stem. Otherwise it is not possible to read everything, especially since you have pages of bio stats questions.
With picking buzzwords (for questions that are similar to Uworld), I was able to spend only 10-20 seconds on some questions. But is this not ridiculous that we have to do it this way? This test I not so much testing our general knowledge, but persistence in answering questions by hard repetitive study of Uworld.
As a side note: I did not have a single MOA of antibiotics question, but got punished with Gram stain of bugs (multiple questions). Really? WTF.

I will post some mnemonics for last minute review before the exam, and invite everyone to share their experience too. I will try to update this list, ideally with risk factors.
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Alot of great jokes get posted here! However just because you have a joke, doesn't mean it's a dad joke.
THIS IS NOT ABOUT NSFW, THIS IS ABOUT LONG JOKES, BLONDE JOKES, SEXUAL JOKES, KNOCK KNOCK JOKES, POLITICAL JOKES, ETC BEING POSTED IN A DAD JOKE SUB
Try telling these sexual jokes that get posted here, to your kid and see how your spouse likes it.. if that goes well, Try telling one of your friends kid about your sex life being like Coca cola, first it was normal, than light and now zero , and see if the parents are OK with you telling their kid the "dad joke"
I'm not even referencing the NSFW, I'm saying Dad jokes are corny, and sometimes painful, not sexual
So check out r/jokes for all types of jokes
r/unclejokes for dirty jokes
r/3amjokes for real weird and alot of OC
r/cleandadjokes If your really sick of seeing not dad jokes in r/dadjokes
Punchline !
Edit: this is not a post about NSFW , This is about jokes, knock knock jokes, blonde jokes, political jokes etc being posted in a dad joke sub
Edit 2: don't touch the thermostat
Do your worst!
Ants donβt even have the concept fathers, let alone a good dad joke. Keep r/ants out of my r/dadjokes.
But no, seriously. I understand rule 7 is great to have intelligent discussion, but sometimes it feels like 1 in 10 posts here is someone getting upset about the jokes on this sub. Let the mods deal with it, they regulate the sub.

Don't you know a good pun is its own reword?

Then the other muffin says "AHH, TALKING MUFFIN!!!"
