Pillars of Hercules Puns

I've been reading Sergio Frau's "Pillars of Hercules" in which the author argues that originally the Pillars were situated between Africa and Sicily.

The argument seems valid to me, but I'm no historian.

The author seems to display a strong pro-Sardinia bias which made me question the validity of his reasoning and deductions. Sardinian historians are obsessed with making ancient Sardinia look great so it wouldn't surprise me if this was just an attempt at placing Atlantis in Sardinia... Which is a conclusion that the author actually reaches in another one of his books (which I haven't read).

This location was only just given during the Renaissance based by the source of Strabo, previously the pillars were believed to be located somewhere the Phoenician empire and this mystic disappeared place was originally called names the Gates of Gades and sometimes Pillars of Melqart (Strabo and Herodotus) which would rather indicate a connection to the ancient city of Tyre. Plus in addition, according to Plato, the area of Atlantis, once sunken, was long shallow and so muddy that you couldn't go by boat to this area.

But about else... The Atlantis, or possible really Benben*, is an Egyptian creation myth regarding the goddess Neith from City of Sais. Unfortunately, the Neith temple is no longer upright, it was demolished and the stones recycled in other buildings. Only the foundations of the temple remain. So we will never know how the original myth was go before Plato.

I was part of a DnD group for around a year and it was a blast. We met weekly and it was honestly a highlight of my weeks. Well life happens and I got accepted into an apprenticeship program I've been in line for a few years for and between the schooling and work I couldn't make the games consistently so I bowed out to let someone with more time take my place. I've been really trying to scratch that itch and I think I found it.

PoE is top down real time CRPG that draws heavily from TTRPGs. The character creating was pretty good, a fair amount of choices without being over bearing. Each choice you could make for your character had an explanation of where that race normally lives, what their strengths and weaknesses are, classes are pretty standard and the skill point system is very similar to other RPGs I've played. Wanting to recapture that DnD magic I got into the role aspect and tried making a "real" character that would fit into this world and not just min maxed. What I really liked about the character creating was all the stats and terms that are mechanically important were a different color so if you mouse over it, it'll bring up a more detailed explanation of that stat. The only thing that was lacking was the ability to modify physical appearance in a significant way. I choose a nature God like and only had 3 faces to choose from. Not a big deal to me but might be for some.

I only have about 2 hours of actual game play because I spent a good amount of time creating an unnecessary back story for my character (old habits die hard). It seems pretty solid. You can drag a box and grab all your party and command them as a group or you can choose what they do one by one. Battle is real time pause so you set doke actions and then let them play out. If a strategy isnt working you can pause mid battle and switch things up. If your attacking or getting attacked and move away the enemy gets a opportunity attack which I havent seen in many RPGs but I've played mostly Bethesda style RPGs recently so I could just be out of the loop on that. One thing I really like about combat is the amount of freedom you have to try different strategies. The first few encounters I selected all and charged at the front baddie to fight and I got punished for that by having a party member get knocked out (not dead) in one of the first fights. Next encounter I had my rogue's stay back let the fighter kite the enemy to a narrow hallway and then had the rogues come from behind and use
