I've been to a few charity/second hand shops and markets and stuff recently to try and buy Christmas presents, and I keep on seeing people selling those phrenology head models ? Do people just think they look cool ? Do people not realise that they're completely ascientific and really racist and ableist or do they just not care ?
It shows as sold out in the store, which typically means that it is in low supply and the remaining copies are on hold for swaps.
If you don't have it yet, this album is killer. One of my favourites from last year and I love how VMP packaged it.

I found an anti trans tiktok account that claimed that the neuroscience supporting trans people was just like phrenology. They made no citations to support this claim. I've screenshotted a couple of comments that they liked in order to illustrate this where they seemingly refute the relevance of a number of studies that support it by saying that phrenology had loads as well. A different account compared it to eugenics but I haven't got a ss of that either.
Phrenology was the idea that you could measure bumps on people's heads and be able to tell if they were criminals or not and a bunch of other pseudoscientific claims. I understand it was also very racist.
Neuroscience to my knowledge is scientific. I understand the science is in its infancy but I was under the impression we were pretty sure that it was almost certain that certain parts of the brain were responsible for different functions including memory, emotions, movement, etc.
I also know of a few systematic reviews that indicate there is strong biological evidence for the notion of a gender identity. The reviews are unfortunately behind a paywall and I'm not a neuroscientist. Hence why I'm posting here.
I've heard that ideas of a sexed brain are disputed and there's a bunch of back and forth over that atm. I've also heard that there was a controversy that called into question all neuroscience studies that used MRI scans but I know nothing about these things.
So to summarise, here are the things I want to know:

Is the biological evidence to support an innate gender identity strong (and is this called into question by any other research on the brain)?

Was the evidence to support phrenology similarly strong?

Is there any reasonable or evidence backed comparison to be made between the two?

While dabbling in these pseudosciences could be defended as being largely innocuous is there an argument to be made that it requires an inconsistency in someone's rational thinking? I have heard people say it is harmless fun but does perpetuating these practices move our civilization in a healthy direction?
