A list of puns related to "Phono"
Hi, friends! Bit of a different listing than usual on here, but figured it could fit given one's circumstance!
Asking $40 for it.

Hi,
I have no idea what I'm doing. I have this speaker and it has "bluetooth," "line," and "phono" input options. Bluetooth sounds average. For the wired connection I have a 3.5mm to RCA adapter plugged into my computer and the RCA into the speaker. "Line" input sounds average using that cable, just like bluetooth.
"Phono" sounds incredibly bass-y, at low volumes, but distorted at higher volumes. What is phono, why does it have so much low end but is distorted and static-y at medium-high volume?
tldr: I'm looking for a turntable in the 200-500$ price range with a built in phono preamp. I don't know much about turntables, but I want a good quality one. Any help?
Hi all, I decided to skip posting on r/vinyl or r/vinyljerk and figured that this subreddit might be able to give me some pretty good advice and recommendations.
So as a background, my first record player was a Victrola, and while it's very much not a great player in terms of sound, lack of customization, poor tone arm weight, and damaging vinyls, it ran pretty well. Until it didn't. After about 6-7 months of playing, it stopped working on me and I've performed every turntable surgery I could think of on this little thing and it's just done for.
It's been time for me to update my set up anyway (I promised myself I would upgrade at 100 records, I currently have 180 in my room) and I've been researching since July. Problem is, I've been looking for a decent turntable but i feel like I'm at some sort of standstill since I don't really know too much about them.
So this all brings me here. I'm wanting a turntable that's in the 200-500$ budget I allowed myself, and I've got a list of a couple good turntables if anybody recommends those ones. I'll list them below and why I haven't pulled the plug to buy it yet: U-Turn Audio Orbit Plus - it looks really nice, but I can't really get over the 99$ shipping Crosley C100 - this one looks nice too but I really don't trust Crosley very much in terms of quality. I know this one has a Pro-Ject build so I'd prefer to just get a Pro-Ject instead Denon DP-300 - This one looks pretty nice however I've heard that this brand is a beginners brand and has been compared to Victrola and Crosley, and I don't know if it's great quality.
If you made it this far, do you have any recommendations? I'd appreciate any and all help!!!
I'm looking to buy my own setup and at the moment I'm looking at getting either a Harman Kardon a-402 or a JVC ja-s44 with a dual 505-2. basically my question is if I will need a phono preamp with either of these amps with the turntable or if there is one included in the turntable or amp.
thanks

Last night I had a set at a small bar/ lounge and their sound guy didnβt know much about vinyl or their equipment. My job before the pandemic was in sound so I know the difference between phono and line. Dude only gave me 5 minutes before my set to do sound check even though I got there an hour early.
Anyways they had 2 technics and a pioneer mixer, a pretty standard club setup Iβve just never setup technics before. When I first got on I had to max out the volume for any sound to come through and there was no bass. So I switched the inputs to phono and there was my bass but it was extremely loud and I had to turn everything down. It also sounded like it was clipping on the headphones. Sounded ok on the speakers but even the smallest gain adjustment on the input level was noticeable and I had to keep them around or under 9 oβclock.
The clipping in my headphones was really bugging me during my set so I kept going around the table to check everything and the sticker on the turn tables said phono even the cables had a phono sticker on them but did not have the grounding wire hooked up...
I am currently running my turntable through the Sonos Amp and love the convenience of it. That said, I morally struggle with my abandonment of an analogue listening experience....a main reason I decided to jump back into vinyl in the first place.
If the signal is ultimately being processed by the Sonos Amp, does the warmness or "analougness" of a phono preamp even matter any more? Will utilizing a warm, analogue tube preamp claw back any of the analogue sound or is it all lost anyway by eventually processing it through the Sonos Amp?
Here a quick audio comparison between the well know DJ Art Pre II & the Cambridge Audio DUO.
The DJ Art PRE II is a budget preamp (50$) while the Cambridge Audio DUO retails for 300$.
Both have great specs and seems to be very neutral.

Do you ear any noticeable audio difference ?
Hi I have a Rega IO, and Rega Planar 1 (built in pre-amp). The rega IO has a dedicated phono input stage 1 for turntables, however if I use this line it's completely disotred and you can't listen to it. However if you connect it to the channel 2 or 3 that should be used for other inputs not turntables then it's fine. NOt sure what I'm missing. I have alsoi moved the Rega IO away from the turntable at other end of the table, that doesn't make a difference either.
I checked speaker cables. Checked cables. On the sony right channel works only left cuts in and out. If I hook everything up The SAME on a DIFFERENT receiver no issues. What is my possible issues? Sometimes the left channel works very well for a minute. It crackles too almost like it needs sprayed with some deoxit I sprayed it with some not a whole lot tho and worked it around. It will function if you move the balance back and forth and turning the volume up and down. Intermittently. So the balance is directly underneath the volume knob. Thanks.
Hi,
My current setup is
Fluance RT81(Phono bypass) -> ifi Zen Phono (which I just got today) -> Little Dot MKII -> Sennheiser HD6XX
I've noticed a ground loop hum with the Zen in the chain, when it is removed the hum vanishes too. The Zen is connected to the TT with the grounding wire/RCAs and then to the Little Dot via RCA. All are plugged into the same surge protector, plugging each to a different socket didn't change anything either.
Does anyone have an idea what could be causing this? I had initially thought failing tubes in the amplifier but as I said the problem disappears when the Zen is removed.
The Zen and TT both have 3-pin plugs (I'm UK based) without an earth pin (it's plastic) whereas the Little Dot has all 3 metal pins so I don't know if that could be contributing. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks!
Was thinking about snagging one of these to use as a phono preamp, but wanted to see how well it worked with MC cartridges.
