Divinity Original Sins 2 did not work for me at all

This is my review of Divinity Original Sin 2 DE, which I just finished and it didn't work for me, at all. The following may read like a rant so I feel I need to preface by saying that I am happy for all those players who got a fantastic experience out of the game (judging by the massive amount of positive comments I have read on reddit and elsewhere) and especially to acknowledge that it takes enormous talent and inspiration from the creators of the game to make something so highly praised as DOS2. It just didn't work for me, and I explain why.

I had played and completed DOS1 in the past, which I also didn't enjoy. The reason I played DOS2 despite that, was all the rave reviews that had me thinking it would be a massive improvement on the DOS1 formula, then an expectation that it could get "better if I keep playing", and finally the feeling that since I've played this far I might as well try to finish the damn thing.

I played single-player Tactician mode, on PC using mouse/keyboard. I played as Sebille (Scoundrel) with a party of Ifan (Archer), Lohse (Summoner/Support Mage) and Beast (Tank).

Starting with the good things:

- The battles were interesting. I didn't get stuck on any fight that I remember, with one exception which was fun trying to crack it (oil fields). The vast majority of fights I either won on the first go, or I had to reload once in order to position myself and precast Lohse's summon. But generally they were challenging and interesting, you couldn't munch through them on auto-pilot, had to be careful and plan ahead.

- The graphics were beautiful, although a lot more cartoonish than I like, but still great. Most of the voiceovers were also fantastic.

- The respec option was fantastic, trying different stuff, exploring options. Great fun.

Things that didn't work for me:

- The game's length was WAY above what I would have liked. A lot of the stuff I was doing was needless, entire map areas could have been cut from the game without missing anything. Most sidequests were just filler, but the problem was that I had no idea coming in, which ones would tie in with the main story, so I ended up doing all of them, and most of them were really not interesting.

- The "open world" approach was extremely frustrating. I am not a fan of open worlds in general, but I understand the allure of Elder Scrolls games for example, where you can just go a random direction and explore and get lost in the world. But in DOS2 you need to pretty much chec

Divinity: Original Sin 2 is the greatest RPG Iโ€™ve ever played, by far

I play JRPGs, tactical RPGs, card-based RPGs, 4x strategy games; you name it, Iโ€™ve played it

And no game has kept me hooked more than DOS2. Honestly I havenโ€™t even beaten the game because I keep restarting a little bit after Fort Joy to try out new build ideas ๐Ÿ˜ญ

The graphics are incredible, the gameplay is unmatched, the music and voice acting is phenomenalโ€ฆI truly canโ€™t think of a single flaw with this game

Just wanted to share because I love this videogame so much, anybody else?

Evolution and original sin

The doctrine of original sin is a core tenet of Christianity, because without it, Christ's death is meaningless as there is no sin to atone for. Now, if we want to believe that original sin is real, we have to believe that there was a first sinner, namely Adam, and that would lead to us having to take the creation account in Genesis literally.

The theory of evolution teaches us that there were never less than 100 thousand humans while Genesis says there was a time when there were only two humans. With evolution there is no first human to sin, and if one is to believe in science, then original sin cannot exist, and Jesus's death is for naught. The Bible says man brought death into the world, ( 1 Cor. 15:22 ), while science says death brought man into the world (natural selection ).

I haven't yet heard a compelling argument that can harmonise evolution and Biblical creation, so I am forced to choose between one or the other.

Appreciation for Divinity original sin 2โ€™s allowance of applying any class to any companion, and to respec Absolutely everything

After 150 hours of this beautiful game I had moved on to other RPGโ€™s like Pillars of Eternity Deadfire and kingmaker Pathfinder. Neither of them allow us to select the class of scripted party members. So Iโ€™m back here taking a moment to appreciate that this game let us do it.

I Now know I hate predetermined classes for the scripted characters. Part of the fun of role-playing is building your own crew of miscreants. Obviously I canโ€™t script out their dialogue but at least let me select their combat class to fit my imagination. Without this option I spent probably 30 hours re-creating different hired adventurers in Deadfire and Letting the non-respecsble ones I created die before I finally landed on a party I enjoyed. By that time the games Novelty had worn off and I barely got into act 2 before moving on to Kingmaker, Which I am now learning also forces certain classes on the scripted companions. I am on Console so most mods donโ€™t apply to me.

The problem is magnified in games as complicated as RPGโ€™s that take at least a dozen hours before a new player understands the combat. At which time a respec that includes changing of the class, is logical and appropriate. Otherwise weโ€™re forced to continue with potentially poorly built characters or start the game over.

Thanks for listening. I wish I had known to better appreciate this aspect on my first Playthru of the Divinity 2.

Divinity Original Sin 2: An incredible CRPG with quite possibly the worst combat system of them all

I want to preface this by saying that I love this game. The story, the characters, the interactivity of the world, it's all in a class of it's own. The game has an Overwhelmingly Positive on Steam, and it absolutely deserves the praise it gets.

I had two separate playthroughs, one with my wife on Classic difficulty, which we stopped in Act 2 around Driftwood, and a separate file where I played alone on Tactician. My main character was Fane, who I played as a mage. For compaions I used Lohse as a ranger, Sebille as a rogue, and the Red Prince as a Fighter.

I've completed or extensively played almost every other modern CRPG excluding Pillars 2 and Tyranny, and have a lot of experience with the older infinity engine games, Fallout 1&2, as well as Neverwinter Nights 1&2, Knights of the Old Republic, Dragon Age, etc. So keep in mind, that this is coming from someone who is very familiar with CRPGs in general, and that someone who played Divinity as their first CRPG may have a completely different experience or opinion.

Having said that, this is the hill that I will absolutely die on: the combat and it's derived systems are some of the worst, if not the worst, of any RPG combat system to date.

Larian Studios attempted to reinvent the wheel, and in doing so they created a system that seemingly provides more choice, when in fact it restricts it. Heavily.

The main pain points:

  • Bankable action points
  • Excessive teleport/jump abilities
  • Revolving itemization/inventory
  • Excessive statuses and stun lock type crowd control ability
  • Separate armor and magic HP pools
  • Unbalanced ability score system
  • Multiclassing with no downsides
  • Enemy AI does not play by the same LoS rules
  • Everything is on fire, always

All of these things combined serve to make every single encounter exactly the same:

Bank AP -> Teleport -> Spend banked AP -> Burst damage to strip armor type -> Infinite CC

Enemy targeting is incredibly limited. Magic users will unequivocally target low magic shields and physical damage dealers will target enemies with low shields. To do anything else will result in the enemy using this very strategy on you, resulting in failure. So lets go over each of these one by one and how they not only cause problems on the individual level, but also serve to compound problems with each other.

Bankable action points

There is a reason that no other CRPG or tabletop does this. If you can in any way prevent damage for a certain

"Original sin": The doctrine that allows none of us to feel morally superior to anyone else

Mark Maney

There is a lot of push back today against the doctrine of โ€œoriginal sinโ€. Some question whether the Bible teaches it, others question whether it is fair that someone pay the consequences for someone elseโ€™s sin.

So what is โ€œoriginal sinโ€? The term refers not to the actual sins we all commit, but to the universal sinfulness shared by all human beings, a sinfulness which is traceable to the moral fall of the first humans, Adam and Eve.

While debated, some of the more common passages used to support the doctrine of original sin areย Psalm 51:5,ย Romans 3:23,ย Romans 5:12,ย Romans 5:18,ย Ephesians 2:3, andย 1 Cor. 15:22. Romans 5:12 says, โ€œTherefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinnedโ€.

Some argue that it is not fair or just that humanity has to be punished for Adamโ€™s sin. It should be noted that we are not being โ€œpunishedโ€ for Adamโ€™s sin. Instead, we are living with theย consequencesย of Adamโ€™s sin. There is a big difference there. God does not punish us for Adamโ€™s sin, that idea is mistaken.

However, because Adam fell, we live in a world that is completely affected by that act. Now someone may reply, โ€œBut thatโ€™s not fair! Why should I live in a messed-up world because of what someone else did?โ€ That is true โ€“ itโ€™s not fair. It is not fair when a negligent driver hits an innocent person and that person dies. But it sadly happens. It, interestingly, is also not fair that God would offer anyone salvation in Jesus Christ. Mercy is not fair. So, if we want only justice, we are in big trouble. But the Christian message is that God, in his mercy, is willing to reverse the consequences โ€“ this time with our representative asย Jesus,ย instead of Adam. We can have the righteousness of God in Jesus Christ when we are united with him (Romans 5:12-19).

However, what is often forgotten in the push back against original sin, is why it is actually a very important Christian doctrine. There are many reasons why, including its explanation of why human sinfulness and evil is so persistent and pervasive.

But hereโ€™s another: when we discard the doctrine, we set ourselves up to look down on others. ย Original sin is a very democratic doctrine, because it means that weโ€™reย all sinners. We all have faults and flaws. We all depend on the grace of God. By denying original sin, we begin to think that it is possible to become virtuous, even perfect, and obtain Godโ€™s salvific fa

Original sin being โ€œinheritedโ€ through Adam

Hello! I (F27) am an occasional lurker, first-time poster. To keep things short I was a very open-minded, devout Christian (ex-Catholic from age 13 onward) until about age 22. Why I donโ€™t believe any more is a story for another time, but suffice it to say nothing crazy or traumatic is associated with my disbelief. I would say my current beliefs are ambivalent - if itโ€™s true, fine; if itโ€™s not true, thatโ€™s fine too.

On to my question: Genesis, Biblical exegesis, and several apologetics resources Iโ€™ve consulted present the idea that when Adam and Eve brought sin into the world, their descendants (aka the rest of humanity) inherited it from them, from the Fall they caused. When I was a Christian, I was quite liberal and approached the story of Genesis from a more metaphorical point of view. I have always considered evolution as fact and this means I didnโ€™t believe - and still donโ€™t - that Adam and Eve were the โ€œoriginalโ€ humans.

I know I wasnโ€™t the only Christian who was in the science-y camp (holding beliefs such as โ€œGod created everything, including modern science and its discoveriesโ€ and โ€œBelief in God and modern science can coexistโ€), but I cannot seem to find any discussions by Christians who donโ€™t believe Adam and Eve were actually the original humans. How is it possible to hold this point of view, yet still believe the literature that says humans inherited sin from Adam and Eve? Is it as simple as a figurative vs literal โ€œinheritanceโ€? TIA!

Which is an easier game: Pillars of Eternity or Divinity Original Sin 2?

For someone who has a hard time getting the hang of things and is easily overwhelmed?

Sadly my attention span isnโ€™t as good as it was in my teen years. I ainโ€™t old, 24 years old, but I sure as fuck donโ€™t have the patient of high school me.

And I find these types of games that have many perks and skills and such really overwhelming because I have no idea how to properly level a character up or what skills to get and all that. Honestly I have such an easy time with games like Dark Souls compared to CRPG games. I always have to be looking up beginners guide to these games and even then I still get lost. Or end up dying a lot anyway cause I have no idea what Iโ€™m doing.

I really want to play a CRPG game but what that holds your hand a bit to get things going. I played DOS2 once and kept fucking things up right in the beginning. Kept dying and finding myself in hard situations. Iโ€™m willing to give it another shot but wanted to see if PoE is easier.

I liked Diablo cause it was simple but got tired of it tbh.

Youโ€™re more than welcome to recommend another game other than these two?

Original Sin? The dichotomy of "Harmony" and "Counterpoint".

Do you think these should really be seperate points of study? Voices, identified or not, are moving in chord progressions. In the real world, chords often have elements slightly delayed, anticipated, suspended, not to mention the effects of a drop 2 "voicing"

The movement of individual chord tones are forming, intenionally or not, melodic lines which in turn change the sound? Unconcious counterpoint is occuring, no?

Today, it seems "harmony" is the first jump past sight reading, but counterpoint is a strange Fuxian paper game of "species" that was not how musicians learned polyphony in the main, until the late 19th-century, They started right off with simple, compound and double cadences, with syncopatio cooked in early, i.e. the preparation of dissonances, where the direction of voices is a focus. In 1800 by the time students saw Fux they had been improvising counterpoint for years, or that is my impression. Bach seems to have had no use for Fux in his teaching, finding him "dry". Instead, with his students he focused on the much more interesting and practical task of building chorales from scratch, picking a melody, making alernate basses and finally inner voices. The lateral direction of voices was no accident.

Nowadays very much conversation is "chord progressions" that struggle to describe music coherantly......or?

In the dichotomy of Harmony and Counterpoint, in which camp would a cadence really belong? The precise direction of indiviual voices.....that's what a cadence is really concerned with, no?

A cadence is also a progression e.g. V-I which gains all sorts of character in regulated behavior of, tenor, soprano, and bass....and early on a delayed discant prepared by suspensions....

In the eden of polyphony, the cadence, harmony and counterpoint are equal perspectives on musical action, no?

Isn't our everyday vertical focus missing a fundamental dimension?

From what I understand, Larian Studios put it on the iPads and restricted it to only high end iPads. More specifically, iPads with 3gb of ram or higher. Due to the demanding nature of the game, the 3gb of ram was a requirement. At least that is what I was told from a Larian studios support member. And I get that, I really do. However my question now becomes, why not make the game available on the iPhone 12, and 13? They all have A14-A15 chips with 4gb of ram. Yeah screens arenโ€™t as big but people already play other triple A games via streaming and what not on those devices.

Just curious is all. Simple discussion topic I suppose lol

Bleach and Original Sin, sorta long(crosspost from r/Bleach)

This is my first long essay style post on reddit so please bear with me.

Bleach's message about original sin is not only is it unavoidable and necessary, but that trying to avenge or fix that original sin will only lead to more bloodshed and violence

I want to talk about the concept of "original sin" and how it plays a large part in almost every part of Bleach's story. Although it was only in the background of the story until Can't Fear Your Own World (CFYOW) it actually permeates almost every aspect of Bleach. Original sin is the idea/concept that mankind or the world itself is inherently "tainted" by evil. At first this seems obvious if you know about the world's creation, in which the heads of the five noble families mutilated the Soul King and put him in a state of limbo to separate and maintain the primordial world into what we see today.

Like I said this is obvious, however this isn't the only example in Bleach. Aizen tried to create his own world and in order to do that he started a war and was going to sacrifice an entire town to enter the royal palace. If Ywach created his new world its original sin would have been the destruction of the soul reapers. Ginjo tried to get revenge on the soul reapers for manipulating and betraying him, by manipulating and betraying Ichigo for his power. In CFYOW Tokinada tries to sacrifice Hikone and Karakura town in order to create a living soul king that is entirely loyal to him. All four of these antagonists tried to change something they saw as inherently wrong or corrupt, however they all either did it for their personal selfish reasons, or they "became the very thing they swore to destroy"

Those were the more "literal" examples in Bleach but there is another great instance of this theme, and that is the soul reapers and the Soul Society itself. The Soul Society is the afterlife in the world in Bleach, and as has been pointed out hundreds of times, it is well... shit. Most people that live in the Rukon district are living in absolute poverty by modern standards, Izuru even points out that there are districts where it is unheard of to see sandals. The soul reapers themselves are also incredibly cruel at times, we all know how morally grey Shunsui can be, and how callous many of the soul reapers acted at Rukia's execution.

Not only is original sin a recurring concept in Bleach but what Kubo says about it is so much more interesting than the concept itself. Like I said earlier the soul reapers are the good guy

God wanted the original sin to happen and planned for sin to be brought into the world.

Christians often state that mankind deserve ___ because Adam and Eve brought sin into the world. I think that if we go by what we know about God we should be able to logically see that God wanted the original sin to happen. This is really strange considering a sin is supposed to be something god doesn't want, yet he specifically planned for it to happen.

P1: God exists, is all knowing, knows the future, and is omnipotent.

P2: God designed the universe how he wants it.

P3: God designed the universe in a way that if Adam sinned it would "Bring sin into the world".

P4: God designed the garden of eden with a tree that would bring sin and death to all mankind if it was eaten from.

P5: God designed Adam himself how he wanted him, and would know what decisions he would make in different situations due to the way he designed him.

P6: Due to God's design, humans make decisions using their brain.

P7: Adam made the decision to sin using the brain that God designed.

-----------------------

C1: When God designed Adam he knew that he would make the original sin because he knows everything.

C2: When God designed the garden of eden with a tree that would bring sin and death to all of mankind it was knowing that adam would eat from it because he knows everything.

C3: God planned for adam to commit the original sin and then punished all of mankind because adam did exactly what God planned for him to do.

It's hard for me to believe God designed a person who he knew would desire to eat the forbidden fruit and then placed him in a garden with forbidden fruit without planning it. You have to wonder why would god even design a garden with something like this in it? It's like designing a playground and just randomly adding a button that shoots nukes in it. There is simply no explanation for all of this happening with a creator who knows the future designing it and somehow not intending for it to happen.

Story Similarities Between Pillars of Eternity and Divinity: Original Sin 2

I am currently playing DOS:2 for the first time and couldn't help but notice a lot of story similarities between it and Pillars of Eternity. PoE came out before DOS:2 I believe, but the Divinity series is older than Pillars. I haven't finished DOS:2 yet but so far I have noticed:

->!The gods are not what they claim to be in both universes!<

->!In fact the gods were members of the technologically advanced race that came before that subsequently disappeared (Eternals vs. Engwithans)!<

->!In order to save the world, you must become/stop a god (become a god in DOS:2 and stop a god in PoE2)!<

I have no idea which game series established their lore regarding the gods and how they were created first, but I just thought it was interesting that both games basically have the exact same explanation for the gods. What do you think? Am I missing any more similarities between the two series? Please no spoilers for the end of DOS:2 or use spoiler tags since I haven't finished it yet.

ETA: Marked spoilers!

Finished Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition in Tactician Mode, here are my thoughts

I just finished Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition with my friend. We wanted a challenge, so we chose Tactician mode, and we went Lone Wolf so we had less characters to manage.

The first thing that comes to mind when comparing DOS and DOS 2 is how much I disliked the experience when playing through the first game: Divinity: Original Sin was an incredibly trying experience, with frustrating mechanics, gimmicky encounters, and unrewarding loot tables. The first few hours of DOS1 were particularly challenging; there was no physical/magic armor to avoid crowd control effects, the character had to have high Bodybuilding or Willpower to oppose a deleterious effect. This made certain encounters particularly difficult in the early game, as enemies can not only cc your characters from range, but they can keep you down indefinitely, as their ability comes off cooldown before the crowd control effect ends. The only source of healing came from the Regeneration spell, finding a bed, or by eating food and drinking potions. This resulted in a lot of downtime as my character was casting heal, waiting for the spell to come off cooldown, before casting it again for the whole party. In DOS2, the encounters felt like puzzles; by and large, there were very few surprises, and one could approach it using their wits and tactics to overcome the situation. In DOS1, there is little point; additional enemies will spawn behind your party in the middle of a fight, or they would have immunities that you can't overcome such as physical damage immunity (why?!), or worse of all, be forced into an escort mission where you have to protect certain NPCs, who will not run, hide, or heal themselves during combat. The loot that we get from our troubles is also not worth it; at the end game, our characters were level 21, still wearing level 18 items simply because those items had better attribute bonuses or other static effects. There's nothing worth crafting, or pursuing, as the legendary items in the game are all pretty worthless.

The second thought that comes to mind is that it is incredible how much Larian studios was able to learn from the first game, and apply it to the second. Physical and magic armor was introduced so characters didn't get cc'd right away; bedrolls were introduced which made resting between encounters easier; encounters felt like fun combat puzzles, and gone were gimmicky combat scenarios where we had to protect or escort unhelpful NPCs; and finally, in DOS2,

There should be a graphics setting in Divinity Original Sin 2

The game drains battery crazily fast, like nothing else I've ever seen on my iPad Pro M1, even at lowest brightness setting. Yes, the game looks absolutely amazing, but I wouldn't mind if they added some options to tune down graphics and limit framerate to 30 fps in order to save battery and let us play more in a single charge. I understand the devs want to make a no-compromise game, but I think the options should be there for anyone interested. Right now, the game simply runs at maximum settings and fps for whatever iPad you have, making the device quite hot and battery drains like crazy.

Immaculate Conception and original sin

Hi Father(s) of Reddit! I got to wondering about the Immaculate Conception of Mary and how she was conceived without original sin. Since baptism wipes us clean of original sin, does that mean that Mary didn't have to be baptized? Was she baptized? Also, since she's a human like us, she probably sinned at least a couple of times right? Because the only 100% perfect human was Jesus. I have a hard time figuring out the difference between original sin and personal sin. I realize I know very little about this and appreciate any information!

The story of the original sin

So am I the only who feels like the story of the original sin is pretty much a method used by Christianity to pretty much blackmail humans? I mean it's like me telling someone "you know you have a disease for which there is no cure however if you devote all of your life to our religion then you will be saved!) If not you will just burn for all of eternity

Edit: Narrowed it down to Dragons Dogma vs Kingdoms of Alamaur. Seeing I have done a couple skyrim runs already

WSIB If I enjoy turn-based RPGs like Divinity Original Sin 2

I'm currently playing Divinity Original Sin 2 and looking for similar games to play next

I've haven't tried any other games similar to Divinity before but I absolutely love everything about it. I'm very new to this genre so I have no idea which to try next. I really enjoy the turn-based RPG aspect of the game and the character customization, so if there's any game similar to this, that'd be really great!

Any suggestions would be helpful, Thank you!
