A list of puns related to "On the Jewish Question"
I enjoy most of Marxβs ideas and writings, but this one is odd. What do you guys make of this piece?
Hello! This is my first post here, and I'm a bit confused. Just recently I got my test results back, and I had 0% Jewish DNA. This confuses me as while I'm not fully Jewish, I assume I should have some. My paternal grandfather was Jewish, his family being Sephardic and coming from Argentina. The test shows some Indigenous South American DNA, and plenty of European, but no Sephardic nor Ashkenazi Jewish. If anyone has any guesses as to why, please let me know. Thank you!
The other day, my friend who is Jewish and I got on the subject of the Holocaust, and she said, "it's just crazy to think that if I'd have been alive back then, I would have been taken to a concentration camp." And I mentioned, "yeah, that is crazy. I might have been too." She got upset by my comment and told me it was wrong for me to put myself in her category. She said, "I'm sorry that some gypsies and gays got rounded up in it too, but the Holocaust is our thing. You don't get to have the Holocaust." And she mentioned how it was a part of her familial history and asked if I grew up with it being a part of my identity, to which I replied, "no, bc 1) of the erasure of gay persecution that took place and 2) because I was in the closet and terrified of being gay till I was 21."
Anyway, I told her I felt like she was taking part in a sort of trauma Olympics, and that didn't sit well me. I fully recognize that gay people have/had the privilege of blending in that Jewish people don't/didn't have, and I fully validate that the amount of gays affected is minuscule compared to the amount of Jews. It's fact that the Holocaust was way worse for Jews than it was for gays, but I am not totally sold on her point that I can't bring up the reality that had I been living as a gay man, I very well might have been rounded up too. I want the perspective of other Jewish people. Should I refrain from saying what I said in the future? I fully believe in trusting people with marginalized identities when they tell you their experience and ask you to change your behavior, but this specific friend also has the tendency to be overly sensitive and controlling, so I just wanted some other opinions.
Genuinely appreciative for any help/perspective!
I stumbled across this 2001 HBO movie a few months back on Amazon Prime. It really managed to leave quite an impression. It's an ALL dialogue film - a dozen men (some with names you ate bound to recognize), planning the most horrific crime in perhaps all of human history.
All of the actors do a great job, and I have to say that even though I thought I knew what the meeting portrayed in the movie would have been like, I really was surprised at the different reactions of the Nazis at the meeting.
Has anyone else seen this movie? Would love to hear thoughts on this movie.

Quick Edit : it appears the IMDB link above shows a trailer for a Val Kilmer movie. Heres a short clip from YouTube talking about the movie and showing some clips.

During the period where the unified jewish kingdom was divided into Judah and Isreal, what was the capital of isreal? Thank you.
Followup question i hadnt considered when posting this: Also, why isnt the modern jewish state called Judah instead of isreal? Looking back at the history Judah had the davidian line and isreal basically kind of sucked, had a divided leadership and quickly got their asses kicked by Assyrians. You'd think if you're harkening back to a proud history and linage judah would be the one to go with, but of course i dont know what im talking about (im not even jewish, just a history lover)
So, I was reading around preparing for the lovely holidays with my fascist-supporting family and I happened to read on a local (brazilian) philosopher and personal "guru" for President Bolsonaro. Recently The Intercept published an article with a compilation of videos, audios, tweets and text excerpts of him being anti-semite. He goes deep. As deep as to claim "George Soros aided the nazis in claiming other jew's properties". It's hilarious because George Soros was 15 at the time the war ended.
My question is: How the fuck are jews always blamed for shit without any evidence, in all parts of the globe, and usually from people on the far-right? What is behind the "Jewish Question" Question? Is there any study on it?
Curious to see what they did then, and perhaps if we can take anything away from that time period? My sister lives in Brooklyn and sent me a photo of an outdoor minyan with people about 3-6 feet apart and had me interested in what had been done historically during pandemics.
I have a tough situation in that I am trying to figure out my father's side of the family, who is mainly Jewish, so there isn't a great paper trail past 1860 (and in some cases 1890), plus endogamy (his family were not only Jewish but from the same country on both sides and probably 3rd-4th cousins), no 1st cousins and only a few 2nd cousins for dad, and for me, only 3rd and mainly 4th cousins.
I have at least figured out all eight of my great-great-grandparents on his side, which is considered a big feat for Jews. I also have ten probably 3rd great-grandparents (but much of this is very speculative).
The thing is, when I test, I have a few 2nd cousins a few times removed, and a few third cousins, just on one side, but no one closer. The few closest are on Ancestry and are 80 years old, unable to move their DNA to other sites due to recalcitrance, disinterest, or an inability to follow directions (on top of my not knowing them personally). One tried and gave up, saying, "Sorry, I'm a Luddite." So that's out -- although advice concerning further help for them would be most appreciated! How do the online genetic genealogists persuade their distant cousins to give them their DNA? Mine are not that trusting.
I can't go any further back with records as there are no more; they were destroyed. I've checked.
The thing is, I don't 100% understand the benefit of this because won't she have few close matches too? Also, her age, she's 95 years old, and most test-takers are younger and thus not close to her? None of her 1st cousins are still alive (she had quite a few, but many died decades ago).
On top of which she is a first generation American, so her test population could be low?
I am testing her on Ancestry but planning to transfer her DNA to all other available sites, as I have with my father, because I am hoping to try to separate out his father's side from her side with more clarity.
I am definitely looking for her father's line, for which so far, I only have one teeny-tiny match of about 20 cM (on Ancestry.com) -- a 4th cousin.
We do NOT have many matches on GEDMatch, some though on MyHeritage (only those I can place are on my grandfather's side), and some on FTDNA, only one of whom I can place
