A list of puns related to "Nitrogen assimilation"
Repost: https://publish.illinois.edu/brooks-lab/join-us/
The Brooks lab (https://sib.illinois.edu/profile/mb5886) is recruiting a graduate student or Β research assistant to study gene regulatory networks using systems biology approaches. The candidate will combine wet-lab techniques in molecular biology and plant physiology with computational genomics to identify regulatory factors that are involved in coordinating photosynthesis and nitrogen use. Projects exist that will utilize Arabidopsis and crop species to investigate how plants balance these basic processes of energy generation and energy use in response to their environment.
The lab is located on the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus. We are part of the USDA-ARS Global Change and Photosynthesis Research Unit and affiliated with the Plant Biology Department at UIUC. There is ample opportunity for collaboration with research groups working in both models and crops and at all levels of plant biology, from the molecular to ecological. Qualified candidates will be recommended for admission to the plant biology graduate program (https://sib.illinois.edu/plantbio/graduate_admissions) for Spring or Fall of 2022.
The position is available immediately.
Qualifications:
To apply, please email to Dr. Matthew Brooks (mb5886@illinois.edu) the following: a statement of research interests, CV/resume, and contact information for three references. The subject line of the email should be βResearch position 2021.β
Iβm looking for an alternative to adding DAP during fermentation (for lots with low YAN), and want to know if there are any natural ways to increase YAN in the fruit by altering practices in the vineyard. I know there are some fermentation additive solutions, but I would like to address low YAN fruit before it is crushed.
βI should have noted, Iβm not looking for nitrogen additions to the vineyard that would lead to excessive vegetative growth. Maybe a late foliar spray? I havenβt seen a very practical correlation from nitrogen fertilizing and YAN numbers at harvest. Anybody familiar with how compost teas applications affect YAN?
I stumbled upon this table and thought that /r/cider might find it useful:
Cultivar | YAN (mg/L) | Std dev (mg/L) |
---|---|---|
Golden Delicious | 25 | Β±6.9 |
Field Red | 31 | Β±6.6 |
Empire (Mark) | 36 | Β±10.0 |
Virginia Gold | 37 | Β±3.6 |
Northern Spy | 37 | Β±5.5 |
Low Rome | 37 | Β±8.0 |
Blacktwig | 42 | Β±8.3 |
Winesap | 50 | Β±11.8 |
Arkansas Black | 64 | Β±11.7 |
Shenandoah | 65 | Β±24.9 |
Old York | 65 | Β±9.8 |
Albemarle Pippin | 77 | Β±12.1 |
Empire | 95 | Β±22.0 |
Granny Smith | 97 | Β±13.5 |
Enterprise | 172 | Β±36.5 |
Clearly this only provides precise information about apples grown on a particular plot in Winchester, VA, but it should still give a general idea of which cultivars are nitrogen-rich and which are nitrogen-deficient.
Just whipped up a batch of dry michigan wildflower mead because I noticed some local honey at costco today. Going to use US-05 on it because I want a very clean fermentation to decide if I should buy more of this honey. How much do you guys and gals increase your nutrient schedules when using a beer yeast (if at all)?
I've recently had an interest in lawn care and I'd like to know what I'm doing when taking care of it.
I've tried reading the wikipedia articles on nitrogen assimilation and the nitrogen cycle. I've also watched the crash course YouTube video on the nitrogen cycle but they were all confusing and seemingly contradictory.
Some things were clear, like how the nitrogen in the air needed to be 'fixed' and that dead things leave their ammonia in the ground.
I didnt understand what the plants could or couldnt absorb and if some things were or weren't better than others for plants.
I'd really appreciate if someone could clear this up for me.
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Do your worst!
Alot of great jokes get posted here! However just because you have a joke, doesn't mean it's a dad joke.
THIS IS NOT ABOUT NSFW, THIS IS ABOUT LONG JOKES, BLONDE JOKES, SEXUAL JOKES, KNOCK KNOCK JOKES, POLITICAL JOKES, ETC BEING POSTED IN A DAD JOKE SUB
Try telling these sexual jokes that get posted here, to your kid and see how your spouse likes it.. if that goes well, Try telling one of your friends kid about your sex life being like Coca cola, first it was normal, than light and now zero , and see if the parents are OK with you telling their kid the "dad joke"
I'm not even referencing the NSFW, I'm saying Dad jokes are corny, and sometimes painful, not sexual
So check out r/jokes for all types of jokes
r/unclejokes for dirty jokes
r/3amjokes for real weird and alot of OC
r/cleandadjokes If your really sick of seeing not dad jokes in r/dadjokes
Punchline !
Edit: this is not a post about NSFW , This is about jokes, knock knock jokes, blonde jokes, political jokes etc being posted in a dad joke sub
Edit 2: don't touch the thermostat
They were cooked in Greece.
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
Don't you know a good pun is its own reword?
Two muffins are in an oven, one muffin looks at the other and says "is it just me, or is it hot in here?"
Then the other muffin says "AHH, TALKING MUFFIN!!!"
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies π
It really does, I swear!

And boy are my arms legs.
Heard they've been doing some shady business.
And now Iβm cannelloni
but then I remembered it was ground this morning.
Edit: Thank you guys for the awards, they're much nicer than the cardboard sleeve I've been using and reassures me that my jokes aren't stale
Edit 2: I have already been made aware that Men In Black 3 has told a version of this joke before. If the joke is not new to you, please enjoy any of the single origin puns in the comments
BamBOO!
Theyβre on standbi
A play on words.
My daughter, Chewbecca, not so much.

Christopher Walken
Nothing, he was gladiator.
Or would that be too forward thinking?
Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.
