A list of puns related to "Neofolk"
It's hard to explain succinctly what I'm looking for. Basically songs/artists that use largely neofolk instrumentation but also infectious, catchy melodies and driven rhythms. As examples, here are some songs I think do this well - I'm looking for more stuff like them:
- The Twain by Rome. Sounds like a radio hit but played with acoustic guitar and war drums. (Rome is very good at this kind of thing - Black Crane is another one, and their new album is filled with good examples)
- Death in Rome (obviously), especially their cover of Dirty Diana
- Come Before Christ and Murder Love by Death in June
- Beausoleil by Current 93
- Molti Piu Onore by Von Thronstahl
- Melody by Backworld
Anyone have any recommendations?
Sonically I can't think of two more polar opposite genres. The only real link I can think of that they both deal heavily with reactionary themes and politics.
Short of that I'm a bit baffled as to why most of my favorite neofolk artists have also dabbled in black metal, and so many neofolk fans, myself included, got into both genres Independently.
New to Lexington and looking for live performances of alternative (not rock/country/hip hop) music and I have no idea where to look. Things in the vein of WoodKid, Skinny Puppy and the like.
I've checked out the venues from the side bar, but nothing seems like ti fits the bill. Any suggestions?
Hi everyone!
I hope this kind of post is allowed here. I'm doing a little project where I go to different subreddits of music genres and I ask the members what the best album of that genre is. After this, I listen to the album that got the most upvotes after 24 hours and write my thoughts about it (I will write this as a comment under this one, so if you want to read it, make sure to check back in 2-3 days. This won't be a professional review btw. I don't know anything about music theory so it's just gonna be the thoughts of a random guy). The list I'm following is Wikipedia's list of the most popular music genres in a randomized order. I'm planning to listen to one album per day and this time the genre is Neofolk. So please recommend me an album in the comments. It could be the best one in your opinion, your personal favourite, or the album that best represents this genre according to you, but please, only submit one album. If you submit more than one in your comment, it won't count (If you really want to submit more, do it in separate comments). LPs are preferred, but EPs and mixtapes are also acceptable, even compilations and live albums if they're not too long. I know absolutely nothing about this genre, so I'm going in blind.
This is the 117th day of me doing this. If you want to see what the previous days were, check out my post history.
Thanks to anyone who recommends an album.
TL;DR: I listen to a new genre every day, so recommend me one album and I'll listen to the most upvoted one and write my thoughts about it later.
We have amassed two compilations of leftist neofolk music (left/folk) and are looking for more, if you are thinking of making music like this, know you are not alone.

Absolutely love the genre, hate nazis
An example would be Danheim who produced the Vikings soundtrack https://youtu.be/8uBa9tcn9p0
Does anyone know any bands or musicians like this who produce English folk? :)
Hey guys! Im a neofolk producer (check out my instrumental album here https://youtu.be/OGpErvKifp8 ) and I would like to do something more post-rock in the future, similar to message to bears and black Hill; this is why I need to collaborate with a guitarist. If you're a guitarist and you're interested, dm me! Cheers
Hi. I'm trying to find bands / artists that have a doom (death, black? - I don't really know metal music besides the occasional tool, behemoth and wolves in the throne room) but with neofolk vocals and themes / lyrics (I do like di6, c93, rome etc.).
I've seen some folk metal bands but the lyrics are usually either in nordic languages or the themes are about nordic gods and such (not really my scene) or the folk part is in the sound and the vocals are growling, which is not my cup of tea either.
I did find a band called Aggaloch which goes lightly on the growling and it's nearly there, but not quite.
Thanks for any possible help
