A list of puns related to "Nasal irrigation"
I've been having panic attacks about a nasal irrigation incident from today. I haven't used my nasal irrigation bottle in a while, it looked dry but it may have had droplets of old tap water I washed it with (I shake up soap and water and then rinse it out and let it air dry usually, it's six months old). I rinsed it with distilled water (older distilled water I've had for a month or two), and used distilled water to rinse my sinuses with. I've had panic attacks since though because I'm afraid tap water may have been stagnant inside for a while even with the distilled water rinse.
Can I get some reassurance? I know the risk is low but I'm freaking out.

Neti Pot vs Neil Med Bottle vs Navage v Sinupulse ?
I've been using Neil Med's rubber bottle irrigation. It works ok. But I recently found out that baby shampoo may add additional anti-bacterial benefits. I was wondering:
Which specific one is best? I know our FAQ says J&J, but there's like at least 3 kinds.
How often do I use baby shampoo? I currently nasal rinse daily using the Neil Med rubber bottle.
How much do I put in the bottle? Do you add it to the same saline rinse, or do you do a separate rinse?
Are there any long term side effects or is this something you can do daily/weekly?
Thank you in advance!
So,this year my allergies have been sky high. Particularly due to me suffering from glaucoma and being unable to drink anything antiallergic. I can only use natural. Long story ahort, sinus irrigation hwlps me quite a bit,BUT there's a small thing that's been confusing me.
I first do one nostril, and i feel amazt,i can breath from both sides without issue. But,as in wvery article and place indicates/recommend,i repeat for the other side. And it always ends up with my nose stuffed once more, one side completely clogged and i have no idea why. So I've been rhinkit of doing just one rinse and seeing how it goes.
Wanted to know if it was alright. Technically when you rinse one nostril, you're rinsing the other because it's going out that aide..... isn't it?.
I'm still suffering tho :/. using a natural antiallergic and waiting for it to kick in. It worked last year so fingers crossed.
TIA!
Hi, Iβve had vasomotor rhinitis since 2017. Got some surgery (septoplasty + partial turbinectomy) which didnβt help, in 2018. The following events happened in 2019
Guys, I cannot stress this enough. Please be careful when you use nasal rinsing/irrigation. Aside from the obvious risk of infection with non sterile fluids, thereβs also a different risk. I had a type of vasomotor rhinitis that was extremely sensitive to cold temperatures, as well as other things. Sipping ordinary temperature water was enough to flare nasal congestion some nights. I had this incredibly stupid idea to begin rinsing my nasal cavities with very hot water. One of the worst life decisions Iβve ever made! I did it for one whole year (was under a lot of stress) almost every day. It got to a point where my nasal congestion would only subside with boiling hot water.
Not sure if this next part is worth mention, but at the end of the year I took a trip to an icy place. And exercised outdoors. I developed nosebleeds because of that - with solid blood clots.
When I finally met my ENT doctor, right after this trip, he was horrified to hear Iβd scorched my nasal cavities (didnβt tell him about the icy nose bleeds). Anyway, now my nose is extremely dry and irritated all the time, and still cannot tolerate cold temperatures (instant nose block or runny nose). I feel like I just made a bad situation worse.

I say possible because you have to be careful confounding correlation for causation but I have been headache-free for around two weeks now, and three weeks ago I started inverting my head during nasal irrigation. I don't do the full upside-down thing lying supine on a tableβI just stand over the drain in my kitchen as usual and tip my head forwards as far as I can comfortably go. I then use a nasal syringe (switched from neti pot specifically to do this) and gently 'pulse' the water into my nose. Because the nasal syringe uses half the water as my neti pot did, I do two runs for each nostrilβright, left, right, left.
If you haven't tried it yet and are interesting in experimenting with non-surgical remedies like I am I strongly recommend it.
It's not a miracle cure by any meansβI still pretty dry and stuffy when I wake up in the morningsβbut the headaches I was getting (usually once or twice a week) were just debilitating, stopping me from enjoying or really doing anything, and Ibuprofen or Paracetamol did nothing. So if this keeps up I'll consider it a big step.
Hello. I get frequent sinus infections and often have sinus pressure even without excessive mucus. My doctor has recommended me to utilize nasal irrigation to help with the pressure & infections, but I'm a bit of a paranoid person and nasal irrigation horrifies me ever since reading about the brain-eating bacteria. I know it's rare and only happens with misuse of the sinus rinse, but I also know that even if I took every precaution, I would be an anxious, nervous wreck after rinsing, which would be worse than the sinus pressure.
That being said, I also don't want to stay on medications/steroids forever (or until I have money/time for surgery).
Any tips/advice would be appreciated. :(
I posted a few weeks back that switching from a Neti Pot to a nasal syringe had really helped meβit's almost made sinus headaches a thing of the past. But in the last few days I've noticed the tinnitus that started to develop about six months ago has become much more pronounced, in my right ear particularly.
I can't help but wonder if there is a connection. The nasal syringe works because the increased pressure of the water helps it reach places it couldn't when I was just letting in run through my nostrils with the Neti Pot. But could this pressure be acting negatively on my inner ear as well?
I have been having mild yet continuous sinusitis(in maxillary) and my nasal mucus or membrane is completely inflamed when the doctor checked with the endoscope. Have gone through a septoplasty last year but the symptom has remained. He has finally suggested nasal wash with the Budesonide. Has this worked for anyone in the group?
Also, as I mentioned I have mild but prolonged sinusitis with the mucus membrane being always inflamed. What has helped any of you in such situations?
I set it up for the first time the other day. Sadly, it was for me. Moral of the story: liquid hand sanitizer can splash & burn like hell
I don't feel like boiling water and then waiting for it to cool down.
Iβve been doing nasal irrigation on and off for years but whenever I start up again, usually because of allergy season or just whenever my allergies act up, I start using my sinus rinse bottles again and it always irritates my sinuses for the first couple of times.
I usually do it once a day at night. I use the Neilmed one with the premeasured packets with distilled water. Iβm also very meticulous with sterilizing all the parts.
Has anyone else experienced this?
First time posting here βΒ I've had sinusitis for about two years. The first year, the only thing that gave some relief was nasal irrigation with xylitol and iodine (inspired by the bulletproof sinus rinse βΒ https://daveasprey.com/chronic-sinus-problems/ ) . (Did multiple rounds of antibiotics).
After the first year, I got further relief with balloon sinuplasty, and the occasional xylometazoline nasal spray. I'm usually able to breathe through at least one of my nostrils, but my cheeks always feel congested and painful. BUT βΒ after the sinuplasty, nasal irrigation seems to make me more congested (especially at high saline concentrations), not less. It's weird, because it seems like it's the only thing that can "reach" the maxillary sinus. Has anybody had a similar experience and found out what's going on?
I don't know where to go from here. Surgery seems like the logical next step, but I really really want to avoid it.
I went to me ENT and she told me to resume my Neti Pot usage every day if I like.
Was just wondering if one should do it in the morning or night/evening?
Which do yall do?
Personally I am just guess but it seems like morning because:
You just slept and inhaled a ton of dust. Not much of a point cleaning it out before you do that rather than after.
You'll feel the effects during the time you're awake. If you do it at night you'll be effected when you're asleep. But who cares about allergies when you're deep asleep?
Iβm fairly new to netipot (neilmed) and this is the first time anything like this has ever happened. I bent over to tie my shoe and a nice sized stream of clear liquid (water) just comes streaming down my nose, onto the floor. Is this normal? Am I doing something wrong?
Hi folks - Totally anecdotal advice here - I tested positive for COVID on 11/23, had a mild case (some mild symptoms and loss of smell/taste). I tested negative on 12/07. I read about an in-progress research study about the impact of nasal irrigation (neti pot) on loss of smell/taste and sinus symptoms. I did it every day a few times and taste/smell started coming back after about 2 weeks... though not perfect. Seems like smell/taste is getting better each day... Just an idea - hope it helps.
It took 3 weeks once per day using a sinugator (pulsating nasal irrigator). If nothing else has worked for you, Try it. Use a teaspoon of legit manuka honey 400+ in your standard neti pot mixture. Its going to feel a taste weird the first couple times. I tried it after hearing about a study done by dr. Greg davis at the university of washington. Check it out. Iβll post some more stuff about it soon as well as my sinus culture and imaging results. Just wanted to yet this up.
Ask me anything.
I posted a week or two ago that my polyps are coming back after having surgery. I also have a sinus infection.
Since flonase wasn't working, my doctor is putting me on a nasal rinse twice a day of Budesonide (Steroid) and Gentamicin (antibiotic).
I looked up some studies on it and it seems to be that most people responded well. I was wondering if anyone has experience with this type of treatment and how it went.
(PS - I know you love dupixent and I'm happy for you, but it's not an option at this time)
Iβve had my nasal irrigator for about 6 months now and itβs been great. I use the Navage system and I buy their branded saline pods. I have not changed my routine up at all. I wash my system thoroughly, I use warm distilled water, Iβve never had a problem up until recently.
I get about halfway through my rinse and my sinuses start to burn unbearably. I always have to stop my rinse and dump out the rest of the saline solution which is pretty wasteful. Iβm not sure why as of recently Iβve started having this symptom. Could it be the water Iβm using? Iβve always used the same brand. Iβm not sure what to do. My allergies are so bad Iβm very dependent on my sinus rinses. Has anyone else had this problem?
So I canβt take oral steroids because of some med complications, so my doctor has me on a routine that uses the neilmed bottle and 3 prescriptions twice a day. Itβs to cut down on some of the swelling and tissue growth in my nasal passages in preparation for some outpatient procedures.
DAE have experience with this? Iβve done it twice so far and itβs helping, but good lord even a few hours later and my nose is dripping, which is really annoying. Iβm just wondering if itβs because all the mucus is loosening up and it will eventually quit or will my nose do this for the next month of treatment. Any experience/advice welcome.
So, I had a cold that started around Thursday. Friday I went to the pharmacy to get some afrrin and a neti type thing after seeing a doctor. Used the affrin once but did the neti pot with boiled water and saline salt a couple of times... Now I feel great no annoying nasal congestion, still feverish but nothing Tylenol can't fix. Is it possible that the neti pot shortened the span of my cold by removing congestion from my nose and killing bacteria? Or is it just a short head cold that coincidentally healed within 3 days?
Just looking for possibilities, I'm not interested in anecdotes about a Seattle woman with an amoeba up her nose (which was only speculation).
