A list of puns related to "Mountain Top Madness"
In the Mountains of Madness, Dr. Lake says that he whimsically recalls stories of the Great Old Ones and of "wild tales of cosmic hill things from Outside told by a folklorist colleague in Miskatonic's English Department. " Do you think this could be a reference to either Dr. Armitage or one of his colleagues who witnessed and defeated the Dunwich Horror? To the rest of the world, the DH was just a fanciful tale made by the backwater Dunwich citizens, but those who saw it and experienced it would know of its veracity. It would be a cool call back if this is the case
The first installment of At The Mountains of Madness, published in the February 1936 edition of Astounding Stories.
do you guys think there will ever be a "at the mountains of madness" movie (apart from del Toro's one)?
For those who haven't read the novella, the Elder Things were an ancient race of alien beings who came to earth before mankind existed. In fact, the Elder things were the first beings to colonize earth. They were technologically advanced, capable of genetic engineering and having some kind of energy directed weapons. Some lived on land- Antarctica to be specific; some lived in the ocean.
It's as if H.P. Lovecraft wrote the first episode of Ancient Aliens.

Hi!
I purchased a Mountains of Madness expansion at a flea market today and just had a look through the components. Now when I looked into the box before purchasing, I didn't notice that the token sheet is missing. Now I read, that FFG doesn't to raplacements anymore, so I was wondering if you knew, where one could get a HQ Scan of the Token Sheet, so I could maybe craft my own.
Also, if anyone could be so nice and tell me a list of all the generic assets and how often they ahould be included, because it seems that 1 is missing and I would like to know which one..
If asking for the sheet is against the rules, just tell me and I will remove the post, but I couldn't find a rules tab since I am on mobile.
Thanks in advance!
This is my favorite Lovecraft story. I don't know what it is but I think this is a best example to give someone looking for cosmic or Lovecraftian horror ( i think lovecraftian and cosmic are the same thing idk).
I think it's the reveal of information that does it for me. Slowly realizing what the city beyond the mountains really mean and what are the inhabitants doing. I'm wondering if any one feels the same or not. If not which book do think is?
Spoiler:
Also what do you guys think the monster we don't see is? I heard a theory that it may be nyarlathotep.
Well, this timing didn't work out so well.
I've been working for a few years now on a custom campaign based on At the Mountains of Madness. You can find a brief overview of the campaign here:
https://itswritingitself.wordpress.com/2019/09/06/betrayal-at-the-mountains-of-madness/
And a Steam Workshop mod containing all the files here:

The sixth scenario, City of the Elder Things, is now available to play in the above mod. It's a beta release, but all that really means is that you need to make sure you disable mod caching when you load it up. I haven't made a formal release, or done one of my announcement blog posts, because given the EOTE news I'm prioritising completing the campaign as quickly as I can.
Speaking of which, the announcement of Edge of the Earth obviously has some impact on this campaign. After some soul searching I decided to press on and get the thing finished. Right now I'm working on scenarios 7 and 8, which are in a late playtest state. Once they're done, I then need to go back through the whole campaign and do some final polish. (For example, a few campaign log entries need synchronising and the generic encounter sets need standardising.)
I know some people have been waiting for the campaign to finish before jumping in. I'll make another announcement post once 7 and 8 are ready.
If you're wondering why you should bother playing this campaign when there's an official Mountains of Madness campaign on the way, here are a few reasons:

So, I really like Lovecraft. Iβve read thirteen of his other works and enjoyed most of them. His style of writing is unique and I like how he doesnβt skip out on the details.
HOWEVER, Mountains Of Madness is appearing to be a hard read for me. Maybe Iβm a moron or something, but I canβt understand most of the geological words heβs writing about. Strata, Comanchian, Archaeozoic, etc. like, huh?
Iβve heard that this story is really popular amongst readers and his fans, and I was super excited to read it. Now? Well, I still want to but I find it hard to read without fully concentrating, and I keep pausing to search up what the words mean. Any tips? (No spoilers please.)
So far Iβve read up to the new mountainβs discovery and the cave with the fossil fragments.
Hello there,
while having GMed some shorter scenarios,I recently bought both campaigns, thinking my group of players and me as the keeper might be ready for a greater task.
Now having a family and being busy at work, my spare time is limited. Yet I know, both campaigns require a lot of preparation. I have a basic knowledge of what each of them is about.
So I ask myself: Which one should I choose? Which one would you recommend, in aspect of preparation time, before I can start playing with my group?
In BtMoM it says, the keeper should:
I think that would require me about a year of preparation (in parallel to the scenarios we are playing)
Any advice appreciated.
