A list of puns related to "Modes of persuasion"

Not only does Joe Biden take money from union busting lawyers, his dismal performance in Iowa proves he is a non viable candidate for the democratic nomination as well as the president.

Different political views aren't something which just "happens". It's not random chance. It's not something you shop around for and decide to pick up. And they certainly aren't something to be taken lightly. Politics has an enormous impact on our lives thanks to the decisions that must be made governing how we act and interact with each other. Not even libertarianism escapes this, despite the predictable objections to the contrary which I can already see coming in hot -- that philosophy also lays out rules governing our behavior which others may potentially disagree with. In sum, politics can't be safely or responsibly ignored or dismissed as irrelevant. Differences cannot and should not ever be reconciled by the cheap copout "we'll have to agree to disagree". Someone's view must win in the end, and the person who loses won't like it.
Now, where do we get these ideas of what our society should look like in the first place? They mostly originate from our differing moralities. We aren't all identical in what we believe to be good, neutral, and bad. We're mostly the same on a lot of things because a lot of us share a common upbringing -- i.e. common culture, common ancestry, common religion, etc. But that doesn't erase all differences. Some differences can be small, others large. A communist and a liberal might disagree on whether or not the fundamental economic institution of private property is moral, whereas a liberal and a conservative might only disagree on the government's role in regulating social behavior within a broadly private property upholding context. But nonetheless these groups hold fundamentally opposite views about what our society should look like -- both cannot be satisfied at the same time. Compromise will anger both parties and aiming at one extreme will satisfy one group but anger the other.
Take abortion, for example. Half the population believes that it's morally equivalent to infanticide. Half the population believes that a fetus is essentially undeserving of any rights whatsoever and that abortion is therefore merely a medical decision. Who's right? I don't think there's any answer to be found in objective science; it's virtually a given that we do all agree on what the medical procedure of abortion actually is in a purely technical sense. It's just a matter of assessing whether or not it's OK. No matter which side you take you will anger half the population, and a compromise "solution" will make no one happy so therefor
... keep reading on reddit β‘Universal Health Care can be implemented and administered in different ways. In my country of Canada, we tackle it from more of a government insurance plan, and it is the provinces that are usually responsible for those plans; with the federal government setting standards and transferring money to less well off provinces in order to maintain those standards. It may come as a surprise, but there is a lot in Canada that is not universal; dental care, vision care, mental health, long-term care, pharmaceuticals, etc. What's more, is that doctors offices are often private enterprises. Most hospitals too are usually either private or run by the city, not the province. With that said, again Universal coverage means that we allow folks to access the health care and the government picks up the costs.
This is a different way of handling health care than the British do, which is run and administered in a completely different way. The NHS in Britain is not a health insurance plan, rather the NHS is a network of physicians, health care facilities, pharmaceuticals, and and etc across the whole country. In fact, I am pretty sure the NHS is the largest single pay health care system in the world. A lot less private care there. but more expensive and has similar results to Canada.
Then you've got the very decentralized public funded health care system of Sweden where it is mostly run by cities, towns, and counties.
I could go on, but at this point I am also going to say that in each case; Canada, UK, Sweden our systems were not created overnight. Each started with a much smaller mandate and grew from there over a series of decades. Establishing Universal Health Care from the get go is a monumental task so I have a bonus question: Over how long of a period of time would you like to see Universal Health Care implemented?
Many have correctly identified the problem of government and the corporation. What is missing is a sound game theoretical design to manifest a peer-to-peer solution in an adversarial environment. If we are going to achieve the peer-to-peer vision, we must do so through economic persuasion. Neither government nor the corporation is going to willfully give up its power. If we are to succeed, we must create a new solution which makes the old obsolete. Fortunately there is a way to do this.
The core value proposition of all business models is trust/identity. All businesses match a buyer and a seller and collect a fee for doing so. The reason we are reliant on centralized businesses is because we cannot establish trust among two peers without going through a centralized intermediary. If we solve this problem, then we have made the centralized business obsolete.
A system of peer-to-peer trust can be rather easily built on the blockchain. Users register their identity to a designated Bitcoin address and link all of their profile characteristics/data to this identity. Attestation from peers is used to build a public profile. Using this public immutable profile, instead of the individual broadcasting trade requests to a single monopoly provider like Facebook, Uber, eBay, Netflix, etc, the user broadcasts trade requests to thousands of competing matchmakers. Each matchmaker recreates a complete copy of the network. All prospective counterparties can verify the trustworthiness of each other on the blockchain. They need not trust the monopolized intermediary to verify each other's reputation. By solving peer-to-peer trust, you have eliminated the very thing that allows corporations to attain monopolies -- the network effect.
By eliminating the network effect of trust, the centralized business is made obsolete. By making the centralized business obsolete, government is indirectly made obsolete. Government has no power without the centralized business implementing its decrees out of fear of getting shut down. It simply cannot control an economy of billions of individuals transacting peer-to-peer. By making the centralized business and government obsolete, the cost of trade is reduced 40%+. This is because the cost of the middleman, regulation, and extortion is removed from trade as it cannot be enforced in a peer-to-peer framework. Users will join this system not out of ideological persuasion, but because they personally profit from it.
I call it the random axe of kindness.
If youβve taken this course can you please let me know what kinda stuff youβre required to do in it? like are there debates or presentations?
Hey,
New to the game and a little confused regarding importance of persuasion skill (and charisma).
I was reading a few posts that said persuasion is an important skill for the main character later in the game (to do with narrative and kingdom choices).
This has me stuck thinking I should pick a charisma based class - monk, paladin, feyspeaker, etc. - otherwise I'll fail important decision checks and not be in control of my kingdom (or the narrative).
Obviously not everyone plays charisma based classes on their main character, so how do you go about dealing with important persuasion checks when playing other classes?
Do you not care and fail the checks?
Can other feats/skills make up for low charisma?
Can items/equipment?
Thanks for any help!
I know it sounds like a first world problem, thatβs because it is. But I have a huge problem with curiosity, and I know Iβll search for spoilers. I genuinely canβt help it. I want to see Endgame at midnight to avoid this, but as it is my GCSE year in school my parents are not a fan of me going to a midnight screening. I know its a silly little problem, but does anyone have any sort of tips or advice to persuade my parents to let me go and see it. :)
Edit: so far everyone has been lovely to me, thanks so much for the advice. Keep it coming! π
Edit 2: WE DID IT REDDIT!!! I SHOWED MY DAD HOW MANY REPLIES I GOT HE LET ME GO, JUST BOOKED TICKETS TO A DOUBLE BILLING OF INFINITY WAR + ENDGAME!!!!!
My reply to the mods after trying to post the outgoing speech 3 times. The automod kiboshed the first simple link to the video. The second and third attempt was stopped too. Apparently I can not even include the link to the speech in this text... Anyway, my message to the mods:
Mays outgoing speech should be stickied. Not because you agree, or disagree, but because the outgoing speech of a prime minister of this country is a milestone in the course of our democracy. You accept tweets that take hot takes, but you let he entire speech be pushed down by bots and angry kids. Have some sense of history, and remember this speech will be recorded, and not the most popular tweets of the day.
So, I've been on the mission where you have to steal writ from the guard of the young man who's supposed to enter the monastery. Since pickpocketing in this game is extremely hard and I have a kinda low level in it I can't steal it from him - dude literally spots me as soon as I hit E. So I knocked him out and take what I need. Some people witness it and now guards are after me and it seems I can't escape jail no matter what. I tried intimidating one and it fails, through my empathetic skill it shows that he has 4 in intimidation and I have 20; and it still didn't work. Also, my reputation is pretty high so I am not sure what it takes to succeed skill check with a guard. Can someone help me?
If you would be so inclined, please help me gather data for a high school class.
