A list of puns related to "Martial arts film"
...entitled Enter the Fhtagn.
So I am a massive fan of John Wick films, and have been trying to find modern films that have good martial arts in them. Recently have watched The Night Comes For Us, Revenger, Heads hot and loved those types. Anyone have good suggestions of some brutal, violent martial arts movies like those? Thank you
Recently rewatched the Directorβs Cut on HBO Max and was pleasantly surprised to see how well it holds up.
Jet Li gives an excellent performance as a βboyβ (he was well in into his 40s in this) trained by a mobster to be a human attack dog. Despite such a goofy premise the film has a lot of heart and has a solid emotional core. The supporting cast including Bob Hoskins and Morgan Freeman give a lot of credibility to the script.
But all of this would be pointless if the action wasnβt good. But holy shit! The action scenes are incredible. Tightly choreographed yet still having a raw, violent intensity. Itβs all backed by a kickass soundtrack by Massive Attack (released under the filmβs original title Danny the Dog).
The HBO Max cut is labeled as the Directorβs cut though this is different from the βUnratedβ cut on DVD which features additional scenes and a slightly different ending. Personally I prefer the dvd version but either is worth checking out if youβve never taken the chance!
It doesn't necessarily have to be Chinese either, I just want really cool action martial arts movies with lots of fantasy elements and creatures.
I watched a Chinese film in English when I was young. I canβt find it anywhere though.
It was about a fugitive on the run, he always carried a comb and would comb his hair and snap it when he got serious.
The Japanese came to China to steal their herbs, I think there was a plague and they needed it for the cure?.
There was a Chinese traitor called Chen-sang. The main Japanese karate master had long hair and wore a face mask.
He beats them all at the end and dies.
Thereβs also a scene where uses coins and flings them to beat the Japanese.
I was first introduced to martial arts movies back in the late 1970's. At the time, I remember several movies in which one of the villains or henchmen was played by a caucasian actor with red hair. The hero was often a bruce lee knockoff and the films were all subtitled, so I assume they were from Hong Kong. I remember they dressed like the 1970s with platform shoes and bell-bottom pants. Does anyone have any idea who I am talking about? Tried to find information using google to no avail. Thanks in advance!
I don't think this movie had the following it could have had.
If you had not seen it, it's about an autistic girl who can mimic martial Arts just by watching,
She kicks everyone's ass until she comes across a fighting technique she has never seen before and then needs to quickly adjust. Check out this short clip of the scene in question. If you like it, go seek out the movie...not sure why it's called chocolate but the girl lives on M&Ms.
Hello,
About 20 years ago I lived in the PRC, and remember seeing part of a martial arts film on TV that appeared to be black and white. The characters were dressed "modern" early 20th century Chinese-style clothes and at least some wore fedoras or brimmed hats as well. The plot seemed to center on someone standing up to bad guys who wanted to bust up a railroad strike or sth. The strikers might have been organized by Communists. I know it sounds a bitlike Drunken Master 2, but I don't think it was that film. It seemed like it might have had a "revolutionary" plot (ie CCCP propaganda) to it, but not certain about that.
The weird thing is, I remember it being in black and white. But the thing is, the station was a super-local station in a fairly "small" town by Chinese standards. Broadcast was over cable, but quality overall was poor. So possibly it wasn't really black and white?
This has made me wonder if any Chinese martial art films have survived from the black and white era? I know there was an old Fang Sai-Yuk film from the fifties, but it seems to be lost forever. A lot of older films from the 30s and 40s have been lost due to fires and other mishaps related to WWII or other turmoil. But are there any pre-1960s films that have survived?
Odd question, but Google seems to mostly return clickbait or crappy ranked list blog posts when I tried to search for realated terms.
Thanks for your input!
I think there was a third person, typical fat guy comedy relief. I think at the end an army was coming so one of the main chars was trying to escape, other was trying to keep him there.
I want to say the final army was led by a woman. Also i think in flashbacks the two rivals fought over a woman.
I also vaguely recall a basement was important to the plot.
Normally im pretty good at remembering period japanese/chinese/korean clothes but this time its a blank.
I probably watched it around 2010.
Edit: or, they were allies who just lost a battle and fled to an abandoned inn, where the flashbacks reveal one hates the other.
