Maggie Hassan (D-NH) will likely be seeking a second senate term next year. Her opponent hasn’t yet been decided, but the names floating around are Kelly Ayotte (whom Hassan unseated in 2016 just shy of 1000 votes) and current Republican governor Chris Sununu.
Sununu has typically demolished any challenger he has had for the governorship and had a high approval rating. Many have speculate he could defeat Hassan next year given it is an off year and New Hampshire being a more red leaning state relative to other New England states. But NH has consistently voted blue statewide for most of the last two decades. Bush did win NH in 2000, but only by 2 points. Ayotte obviously won in 2010 with a whopping 60% of the vote, but that was a red wave year and she still did -6% compared to her predecessor. Otherwise NH reliably votes blue most of the time. Judd was a 3 term Congressmen, but NH has been a reliable blue state for the most part, just as Maine is despite ME-02 and Susan Collins.

I know it’s not a perfect comparison, but in the 2014 elections, Hassan ran slightly ahead of Shaheen, winning the Gubernatorial election 52.4-47.4 as compared to 51.5-48.2.
