A list of puns related to "Lydia Nicole"
So We all know Lydia is a hurt woman who hurts other women (like having Nicole bc she wants a daughter even tho the father was outta the pic bc Lydia was a mistress not a wife)
BUT
What's up with her voice? It's like she sounds like she hates the world 24/7. Even super angry people don't sound upset 24/7
Is it some medication she is taking? Like Xanax? But she seems coherent!.
I mean Nicole is just upset all the time, her voice has more angry energy. And Pedro is a hurt person who sees the light about his family behavior (generations of mistresses and not being wives)
What is going on with Lydia voice? And yes, I've heard Dominican accents before (I speak Spanish actually....) And Lydiaa wierd voice is not her being Dominican.
The Bad News: I cringed so hard for 55 minutes that something inside broke . . . 😱😭
The Good News: the heaving and retching was so intense that I really kickstarted my new diet! 👍
Does it irk anyone else that these girls, and even the family Chantel just call everything water under the bridge? I mean it's obvious they will never agree or resolve anything because a lot of it is miscommunication coupled with stubbornness. So why hasn't anyone just said, ok this isn't getting us anywhere so if we want to grow as a family, let's just dismiss everything from the past and start with a clean slate. I could not imagine fighting with my in-laws like this at all, but if I did I would be doing anything to quickly resolve and move on.
It was so hard to watch. I understand that's the culture in the DR, in terms of men having more than one set of children outside of their marriage, but then where does Lidia get off being so hyper-judgy about Chantal (who is arguably the least awful member of her family) or Alejandro?
Plus, what part of Dominican culture is being a totally emotionally abusive asshole to your grandson/son/brother? It's not. That's just those terrible, terrible people. I really felt bad for Pedro. Especially when he said he finally could see in his family what Chantal's family saw: trash.
This took me a MINUTE! But I'm bored with covid and was wondering who the oldest and youngest housewives were. The only birthday that I could not find at all was Sarah the bow-eater from RHOC :( Enjoy!!
Truth Be Told
Chantel and Karen meet River's girlfriend. Pedro and Nicole learn more about his father's past and their family history. After a big fight with Jah, Winter reveals things about her relationship that she had been keeping from her family.

Next episode: Burning Bridges
I feel so sorry for Pedro. How would you feel if you realized that several members of your family had a moral compass that was really different from your values? None of it seemed scripted and you could see and feel the raw emotions that Pedro was feeling during his confessionals with the producers. I wonder if this experience will bring him even closer to Chantel's family?
As for Winter, Jah seems crazy and without giving away any spoilers I hope that she makes the right decision regarding him.
The Family Chantel is really good tonight. What do you think?
this latest episode just solidified my opinions of both of these mothers
karen - is annoying, super weird, etc. but she is such a kind nurturing mother. she saw pedro was in pain and gave him the simplest thing he needed in that moment.....a hug. this woman also seems to give some pretty solid advice when emotions are running high
lydia - is a shit bag who only cares about herself and money....for herself. this latest pedro scene - she made herself look completely unhinged, emotionless and possibly a drunk. lydia responds to every one and everything the way a high functioning alcoholic would. angry and belligerent
I posted this in another thread, but wanted to separate it because people keep unsympathetically attacking all the women in Pedro’s family. First, I want to point out that Lidia was likely a teenager when her much older baby daddy followed her home from school and attempted to court this young, dark skinned, impoverished girl. She was very likely taken advantage of by a much wealthier, fair skinned older man who was out slumming it.
Now to my main point. Pedro is having a crisis. But it’s not the one that he thinks he’s having. He’s having a crisis because his father abandoned him and he is in a ton of pain at being rejected since he was a child. The impact of growing up without a father, who chose to abandon you, and coming up in poverty cannot be overstated.
He regularly converts his sadness and pain into rage. He displaced his rage onto his family by calling the women all whores and users.
His supposed “identity crisis” about whether or not he was using chantel, was another displacement of his pain and sadness over not knowing his father. He isn’t really questioning if he is “using” chantel. His family did not Jedi mind trick him into using her. He said himself that they never asked him to.
But he’s still hurt about his father abandoning him but he can’t take it out on his father yet. And he doesn’t know if he wants to. He might side with his male father and attack the women that men like his father take advantage of.
So instead he attacks his marriage. He was saying that to hurt chantel and push her away. “Maybe I never loved you. Maybe I’m just a user like you always thought I was. Maybe our marriage is a lie”. He would likely tell her these things in an attempt to hurt her. In an attempt to push her away (as he does again in the preview for next week’s episode). Which makes sense because he has done nothing but attempt to hurt all the women that care for him sense he arrived in the DR.

... keep reading on reddit ➡In the beginning, Serena's nuanced personality intrigued me. She could be so cruel to June but so tender with Nicole. She obviously loved Fred and was hurt by the way he was treating her. She majorly contributed to the creation of a fundamentalist nation which went to bite her right in the ass, but she forced herself to endure the oppression. Almost as if she didn't want to admit she made a mistake.
However, once seasons 3 and 4 kicked in, Serena was nothing but a deplorable bitch who manipulated anyone she could in order to achieve what she wanted. Throughout season 3, one could say that it was her love for Nicole that made her act this way, but once she gets pregnant she completely forgets about her. So no more interesting Serena, she's just a manipulative sociopath who thinks a baby will give meaning to her miserable life.
Instead, I believe the most intriguing characters in seasons 3 and 4 are Aunt Lydia and Commander Laurence. Since Lydia's flashback episode I stopped thinking of her as a one dimensional villain, there's actually depth in her character, alongside some potentially redeemable qualities. Her relationship with Janine, for instance, would make for an excellent psychological analysis.
Commander Lawrence, on the other hand, I still haven't formed an opinion about. He is a war criminal and in season 4 he teams up with Lydia to "restore the order in Gilead", he basically tells her to be as violent as she pleases with Janine and he proposes the Chicago bombing. There's also that scene where he tells June to pick the five Marthas. In the rest of season 3 though, he helps June get the children out and we see that scene where he's reading to them, which I found very moving. . Not to mention the love he has for his wife and him denying to perform the ceremony. I honestly don't know what to think about him anymore.
What do you think about Joseph, Lydia and Serena's character development? Who do you think is the most interesting character in the series?
Last year I read 380 books, but this year I read 251! I was a tiny bit lazy and read Kindle Unlimited romances and a few middle grades (with my son)!!
Next year I’ll be changing the format a little to include tropes. If there’s some information you’d like to see let me know!
2021 Books
I don’t know how to feel about him. He does have some red flags (the fact he is still married, and he seems to be controlling, and mean) but I feel like everyone thinks of him as some purely evil person. After he met with Pedro everyone keeps saying he disrespected Pedro and Nicole’s mom but I don’t think he really ever said anything bad about her...even when he first met Lydia and she destroyed his things he didn’t yell at her or call her names or disrespect her. They literally judged him 100% off of his appearance. When it came to the meeting with Pedro he said that both Pedro and his mother were bullshitters because Nicole made the CHOICE to leave the DR and go and stay with him. He even said that Lydia told him if he paid for the ticket she could go and he did just that but now the story becomes “You took Nicole from my mom, and left her by herself!”....like both Lydia and Nicole are adults. That comment was a more vulgar way of calling them liars IMO. Pedro then decided to play telephone with himself and say that Alejandro said that him and his mom can go to hell...like what?!? In the last episode it seems like he was trying to convey that the reason he doesn’t like Nicole’s family is because they judged him before he could even open his mouth. Pedro made fun of his beard and appearance while Lydia called him a dishwasher (aka belittling him) meanwhile he’s actually working to become a software engineer and what is Pedro doing besides being a bank account for his mom and sister...? I think he does have some bad qualities but I don’t understand why people are mad when he hits back at Pedro and Lydia for them being a sick towards him
Family Chantel (long post alert, just my thoughts) After watching last night's episode, I feel like we found some missing puzzle pieces.
The way women are viewed in fundamental christianity is not too different from how women are viewed in THT, your purpose is to procreate and be of service to men and children
If there were to be a fertility crisis and somehow the cult I was in (IBLP) got control of the government a system like THT would not be unrealistic
I knew many women who I personally believe would not condemn the actions of Serena and would do similar if in the same situation
The IBLP treats pregnancies and children like they do in THT even though there is no fertility crisis
Some thoughts unrelated to my upbringing:
I’m curious if an unmarried childless young adult women with no perceived sins would be placed as a wife or as a martha
I think Serena completely disregarding Nicole after finding out she’s pregnant shows that she never really fully believed she was rightfully her child and it makes it obvious she never loved her
I want more Lydia backstory and I want more Serena backstory (also what is her moms position? wife to a higher up in another district?)
The murder clean-up cloudbusting scene is my favorite ever
Why wasn’t Emily reuniting with her wife and child more like how it was with June (or how it would be if/when she reunites with Hannah)? It felt like she was a stranger to her wife.
Hello there!
This year, I'm doing a themed bingo square with trans or nonbinary characters in every book. As such, I've spent a lot of time (too much time) compiling books that fit for each square. I had originally intended to post this list after finishing my board with a write-up, but seeing as we are past halfway through the bingo year and I'm on track to finish pretty late, I’ve decided to put this up early so it can hopefully actually be helpful for people still looking to fill their boards.
Books are listed under each category they fit, but I didn’t always check for some of the harder ones (eg. first person, forest setting) if they fit something obvious (eg. published in 2021, cat squasher). Books are sourced from the recommendations thread, the focus thread, the queersff database, readsrainbow, various Goodreads lists, and various threads in other subreddits. Also, disclaimer, I haven't read all these, so categorizations may be inaccurate. Please let me know if you notice that this is the case, or if there are any books I should add or remove!
Without further ado, here's my list of 250+ books that qualify for the trans/NB character square plus at least one other square:
Five Short Stories
Behind the Sun, Above the Moon edited by Brooklyn Ray
Diana Comet and Other Improbable Stories by Sandra McDonald
Everyone on the Moon is Essential Personnel by Julian K Jarboe

When The Testaments first came out, I like many others, anticipated this book. However, reading some reviews that said that it was an “unnecessary” follow-up, I help off until now, when an audiobook became available in my local library. My expectations were low, but I’ve rarely hated a book as much as I do this one. It managed to disappoint me in its own right and also take down The Handmaid’s Tale a few notches as well. Yet, so many people seem to like it. It won a Booker! What am I missing? I honestly want to know and change my opinion. I’m going to outline a few critiques that really stick in my craw. If you loved the book and they didn’t bother you, I would like to hear why not. In case it matters, I haven’t seen the TV show, but it shouldn’t be necessary to enjoy the book, I would think. If you want to commiserate, please do, too.
Poor world building
In contrast to The Handmaid’s Tale, which was a single-person narrative, here we have three narratives that flesh out Gilead from three different perspectives. Yet, we don’t really have any sense about how the society works. It appears to be a society of pure evil, but that makes for a very shallow narrative. Even the most evil of empires have good people living there. Yet, everyone in the ruling classes is awful (and weirdly we learn nothing about the underclasses and how they feel about what’s happening). And there is no way that the society presented even follows its own internal logic.
Let’s take for example the statue. It is perhaps the most literary element of the novel, appearing at the beginning and at crucial plot points until the end. Yet, how does its erection play out? Who actually commissioned it? It doesn’t seem to be the common people, who seem to have no power and are not really mentioned. The Commanders who don’t care about women at all didn’t build it. It surely can’t be the Aunts, who hate each other and constantly scheme to undermine each other. While Lydia is a senior Aunt, the others clearly have no problem raising their opinions and objections to her, so she’s hardly God-like among them. How would it even be built without Aunt Lydia’s consent or express approval? How does a statue that receives offerings play into Gilead theology (this obvious contradiction briefly brought up but quickly dismissed). My fixation on the statue may seem nit-picky, but is emblematic of the world described in Gilead — it exists on the surface, but is shallow like the props in

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

RHOM, S2E11, 2012 - ONLY AIRED FOUR DAYS AFTER THE LAST EPISODE
Karent (BOOOOOO!) is having a dinner party, hosted at Thomas Kramer's house (this guy is a douchebag!) and invited all the women. She and her mother arrive early to prep and cook dinner. The other ladies arrive without conflict, and then the rumours begin, with the housewives thinking that she must be sleeping with Thomas in order to be allowed to use his place to host. I always kinda thought Kim slept with him for the house in Miami in the early seasons of Atlanta, and he's remained a creep. Some say even if she isn't sleeping with him, and only hangs out with him and uses him for his status and prestige.
Thomas asks if Romaine is cheating on Joanna, due to their lack of sexual intercourse, and Joanna gets quite upset by this. The attention is soon taken off of her though when the women talk about their issues with Marysol and Thomas tells Ana to shut up and stop bringing drama and to have fun. She refuses and keeps talking, and he rings a bell. He tells her to act like a guest and not an owner, then tells her to have appreciation. He then changes his attention to Lenny and Lisa and makes a joke about him doing breast implants and getting Lisa's chest into her dress. Ana asks if anyone can spell the word "misogynist", and walks out. Most of the ladies follow her, but Joanna and the others stay to fix things up.
Lea defends Thomas, and Elsa tells her to sit down, simmer, and stop talking. Thomas tells Elsa that even though she is "nearing her expiration date", she needs to shut up and that she needs to "act like a lady if [she] wants treatment like one." She leaves and although everyone is like "wtf just happened" they stay with the loser anyways!

Much kinder to KF than to Kenya, lol.

I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies 😂
It really does, I swear!
Pedro-beat up Alejandro “release me” Lydia-was a side piece Nicole-bought boobs but is still ugly Jah-is a moron and Winter is easily influenced River-got the Covid20….pounds Megan-is chasing fame Royal-controls his wife and doesn’t want his family to see Karen-attempts to sound smart but really sounds more stupider Thomas-Karen’s primary driver
Because she wanted to see the task manager.

the level of passive aggressive pettiness that is normal in this family is WILD. they are so good at it, that i have to admire it on some level. they throw the perfct jabs where you know how they meant it, but if you dont know their conetxt, outsiders wouldnt pick up on it giving them the perfect cowards exit if called out. truly masterful levl that canonly be gained bygrowing up in that environment
dad has no balls whatsoever, even compared with the other men on the show which is saying something. its painful to watch
river.... where do i even start. my man you grew up in a middle to upper middle class family, chill the fuck out with the extra blackcent, none of your family talks like that. and mans keeps talking BRAZY acting like hes gonna do ANYTHING against pedr other than start afight by slapping a chandelier into pedro them crying victim. pedro would beat THE BREAKS off that sideshow bob looking ass negro. mans needs to turn off the fuckin 2pac before he gets hurt
they all radiate the "were not like those other negros" vibe (if youre black as well you know wtf im talking about)
royal fucking installed a GPS tracker app on his gfs phone without her consent ? the fuck? and everyone is cool with that. thats an abuser red flag on top of the inherent unbalanced power dynamic of her living with him with no family, no friends (i fuckin guararntee), and no support.
royal is doing the same shit with his philipino gf as chantal with pedro but somehow mom completely trusts her (cant tell if racism w/ latinos or double standard with sons or daughters.) until chantal whispers in her ear. which, if youre well versed in passive dysfunctional assholes like this she obviously did only to take the heat off herself. same with her sisters man having a secret son. she was so stoked when she found dirt to distrat the family off pedro. secondary was her concern.
angenette fucking had amisscarriage and her bfs reaction to this fucking traumatic event was to accusee her of cheating??? and everyone is on royals side? and his bitch ass of crouse gaslights here when called out on it, and everyone believing her
chantals family started the beef with pedros family...they invite you to their home and you dont evn get out the fuckin car and talk shit about their house? thats WILDDDDDDDD disrespect. no shit pedros fam aint feelin it. not to mention what sane delusional person would want tthe smoke with those crazy bitches? pedros sister and his mom are ABOUT that life, thos

A͟G͟A͟I͟N͟ I͟N͟ M͟Y͟ O͟P͟I͟N͟I͟O͟N͟ …. I wish there was some way that they could translate Lydia, Nicole, and Coraima as they talk without subtitles and like with a voice over because I like to clean and catch up on my shows so it makes it very hard for me… and I’m not talented enough to learn Spanish or read they subtitles so fast. Nicole was on Bares All and u can tell she has been practicing her English because she spoke mostly English. Which good for her I couldn’t imagine having to learn Spanish after speaking English my whole life. Hopefully this isn’t rude to anyone.

... keep reading on reddit ➡I don’t know how to feel about him.
