He was a king that united the whole of Wales and annexed parts of England.

Many princes after him tried to unite wales but failed but it is these princes that are mostly remembered by the welsh.

Have the welsh forgotten the greatest ever welsh ruler?

Mae gan Plaid Werdd cofnod da o gynrychioli ac amddiffin Cymru dros y flynyddoedd, o sawl deddfau sydd wedi helpu pobol cyffredin o Gymru, i ein cofnod o bleidleisio dros dim ond cyfreithau sy’n wneud yn sicr bydd y Gymry yn cael tegwch o fewn eu weithdai, eu ysgolion, ac eu tai. Plaid Werdd yw’r unig blaid sydd yn cymryd y dinister bydd newidiadu hinsawdd yn achosu i’r cefnwlad byd-enwog a hardd o Gymru ac y pobol sydd yn byw tu fewn o difri a bydd yn ymladd i stopio y sefyllfa mynd yn waeth. Here in Cilmery on the eleventh of December 1282 the last Welsh prince of Wales, Llywelyn ap Gruffudd, was killed defending Wales from the old enemy, England. Today, I stand before you to attempt to defend the North and Central of Wales from Plaid Cymru, a dangerous party for the people of Wales. Plaid would say that they are ‘Tarian Cymru’ - Wales’ shield, however in reality they could be the sword that would destroy it.

The leader of Plaid Cymru /u/ViktorHR voted for a budget authored by the Conservatives. How cana party that calls it

Llywelyn ap Gruffudd, the last semi-independent ruler before Edward the First (of Braveheart fame) conquered Wales, was killed in combat in 1282.

On his death, a poet named Gruffudd ab yr Ynad Coch composed an elegy for Llywelyn, but I've only been able to find a (Middle?) Welsh source on Wikisource.

Does anybody know of an English translation? I've looked extensively and can't find any, and the reason I'm asking is apparently the Welsh people at the time found the elegy incredibly moving and poignant, so I'd like to understand it more

Gruffydd ap Llywelyn is the only person to truly unite all of Wales and even took parts of England :) He was a ruthless leader that left the south of wales in ashes before receiving the oath and fealty of the people there as their new king.

This man humiliated the Saxons in many battles and even invaded the land of Hereford and burned the town to the ground. He then went on to beat a combined host of Saxons and Normans near Leominster.

People often say that wales have NEVER been united under one ruler. It has and this leader was Gruffydd ap Llywelyn, The king of all wales (and a bit of England:))

Why don't wales remember him? He achieved more than any other but is mostly ignored. He was the first and last KING of all wales but there is nothing to remember him by.

The English and scots remember their kings but most of the welsh don't even know we had our own.

How would he have been able to win the rebellion and what would have happened if he did?
