A list of puns related to "Livery yard"
So my horse is at a nice livery yard and heโs very settled there. Everyone on the yard loves it there and it is often recommended on local groups for itโs lovely yard owner, good facilities and hacking. Itโs also extremely reasonably priced. I put him there when I bought him because a friend has her horse there. I had a lot of trouble with him when I first got him and the yard owner has really helped us. HOWEVER the hacking is lame, itโs on roads for at least 25 minutes to get to any rural hacking (even just a field for a 30 second canter), I often only have time to ride for an hour at a time and I donโt like to trot on tarmac so hacking is mostly walking on roads. I donโt really enjoy schooling, Iโd much rather get out and about and see the countryside so itโs got to the stage where I dread having to go and ride him because Iโll be bored. I hardly see my friend because we work opposite shifts so one of us is always working, I thought we would ride together and go to shows/clinics (she has transport, I donโt) but we have been on one single hack and thatโs it. The yard is very social but my friend has been there longer than me and gets on really well with the other owners (I am very socially awkward and havenโt made any friends) so any socials are always organised when she is off and Iโm working. Therefore I started looking around for other yards and found one that will work out cheaper because they have 24/7 turnout through the summer and has fabulous hacking right out of the gate. They donโt have a school but they do have a flat schooling paddock when the weather is suitable. The owner seems really nice but Iโm a bit suspicious that they have plenty of space when most yards in the area are pretty full. I really enjoy drag hunting and would love to do it with my horse, the yard owner is very involved with it and could easily accompany us to help get us into it. I feel at this yard we could get out and do some beautiful hacking and possibly get involved with the local drag hunting packs and I would enjoy my horse a lot more. I could still do a bit of schooling in the paddock and when I get a trailer there is a school 10 minutes away I could hire if I needed. However Iโm worried because this yard has space and Iโm moving away from a quite sought after yard, what if the grass isnโt greener? And what if my horse doesnโt settle at the new yard? What if we struggle without the support my current yard owner provides? Iโm really sorry about the essay but Iโm not

Me: moi.
EM: backstory, she was mid 40s and she and ED sold their business 5 years earlier and retired. They will never have to work again.
EK: middle of 3 daughters. Oldest was fine, youngest was taking after EK.
Misty: EK's pony.
Vet: partner in local equine vet practice and previous year voted UK Equine Vet of The Year. He is also once of the nicest people I have ever met.
YO: Yard Owner. Former haulage company owner and mackem (comes from Sunderland ). Well meaning, sometimes does crazy things, calls a spade a spade.
A new horse had recently moved on to the livery yard (also a major regional and national competition venue and very lucrative tack shop). The horse started to exhibit the symptoms of Strangles (a very contagious and serious equine respiratory infection). Vet had been called, he had taken samples from the horse to be examined in a lab and we (liveries) were summoned to an emergency meeting by the YO, with vet in attendance.
Vet tells us that he is instructing us to go on lockdown which means no horses moved on or off site, the shop is closed, competitions cancelled and we liveries have to enact biohazard controls (clean all brushes, etc. in sterilising solution, do not go near other horses, wash feet and hands arriving and leaving the site, etc.). The test for strangles takes 2 weeks to give a certain result as a culture has to be grown and he would return when that had been done.
EM sticks her hand up. "I need to take EK and Misty to Pony Club on Saturday".
Vet "No horse movements on or off site."
EM: "Yes but I need to take them to camp."
Vet: "This is not optional. Strangles is a notifiable equine disease. You cannot move your pony."
EM: "I understand that, but..."
YO interrupts. "Your pony is not going anywhere. Were you not listening to what vet just said."
EM and EK shut up but sit there with sulky faces/
Hi everyone.
Long time lurker, first time poster.
I moved to a new yard in February and I've been really unhappy ever since. The yard came highly recommended by my boss who used to keep her ponies there. It's the largest yard in the area with the best facilities.
When I first moved there, i was promised that there were lots of very friendly people at the yard who would like to hack out with me. I've been on 2 hacks with one lady in almost 3 and no one else at the yard has been remotely been interested in riding out or anything of the sort. It was only a few days ago that I met a new livery by chance who feels exactly the same way that I do.
I feel that there is quite a lot of favouritism on the yard, especially with the yard owner. I was warned about this before I moved to the yard, but I didn't think it would be as bad as it is. I also feel that many of the staff - from the apprentices and office staff to the yard owner are all very unfriendly and stand offish. I often get the sense that they are all talking about behind my back.
Anyway, the reason that I'm writing this post is because I received a Facebook message from the yard owner stating that the apprentices who bring in and turn out the horses are having difficulty in catching my horse and that she is 'dangerous'. I have never witnessed this behaviour and have never known her to be remotely 'dangerous' since I bought her 3 years ago. Whenever I see the apprentices turn her out in the morning (I go up before work but they turn her out), she walks along next to the other horse very placidly. In fact last week one of the yard girls told me how surprised she was that my horse is so sensitive as she is so big (17hh ID). It's true. My horse will often become afraid when another horse close to her is being shouted at.
Anyway, I just wanted to rant and also to ask for advice on what I should do.
Thank you :)
I read this the other day and thought the article was rather relevant. Do we sometimes get a bit to personally invested in our stable managers/instructors etc? And vice versa? How hard is it to remember that a livery yard is also a "business"? http://www.sunnyparkstables.co.za/stable-yards-show-door/
I guess the concept didn't work
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
It was sunrise when Ser Jon Frey of Riverrun woke in the small chamber to which he had been allocated. He rose quickly and attended to his morning ritual. After washing his face and emptying his bladder, the young knight, dressed in Frey livery of quartered towers and lions, walked to the training yard, where he began warming up his limbs. He grimaced as he did so, reflecting that his father Gerold had always told him that if there was an opportunity to warm up before he fought then he should do so. At 21, Jon wasnโt keen on taking advice from this father, but he grudgingly agreed that the old manโs advice was sound. He was proud of his Frey ancestry reflecting that Riverrun had been in their family for four generations now through his grandfather Lord Sandor, his great-grandfather 'Red' Walder Frey and Red Walder's own father Emmon the first Frey lord of Riverrun, although it was said Emmon's wife Genna Lannister was the true ruler of Riverrun. Explains the quartered Lions and towers he thought amusedly, sure that it had been Genna Lannister that had insisted on new arms for the Freys of Riverrun to distinguish them from those of the Crossing and then insisting that her own family arms were included.
As Jon stepped into the yard he could not help but be overwhelmed at the size of it. As much as he hated to admit it the training yard at Riverrun had been nothing compared to the yard here at Casterly Rock.
After he was loose and warm, Jon quickly found his first target of the morning, a middle aged soldier, dressed in Lannister livery who was hacking his way into a dummy enemy made of wood and hay. Jon approached the man and stood next to him watching his strokes and strikes, noting his habits with the sword before the man noticed him watching. He stood straight up and turned to Jon.
"Keep watchin' Frey boy," he said with a smirk, which had several teeth chipped and missing, "Yer might learn somethin'." Jon said nothing to the comment, but only raised his sword as a gesture of a challenge, a grin breaking out on his face. Seeing it, the soldier opened his mouth and expressed an "Oh," before his face broke out in a large broad smile, making his features look something like an ogre, "Aye, you really do wan' a lesson," he said turning towards Jon.
The soldier made the first move, charging Jon, his arm arched back, ready to swing. He wants to finish this quickly, then... thought Jon, as this meant a hard swing. As the man approached and swung, Jon d

We also might get expanded Amtrak service between Tucson and Phoenix, provided the Infrastructure bill passes, commuter rail in Phoenix, and I'm hoping for an expansion on the Tucson SunLink Streetcar, in fact this is my own version of the extension
There is however already a plan to expand the streetcar and it's slightly different than my idea. https://tucson.com/news/local/road-runner-tucson-is-laying-groundwork-for-transit-lines-running-from-airport-to-tucson-mall/article_855a14fc-e816-53a0-a4d7-0459a808ec9b.html#:~:text=Expanding%20the%20Sun%20Link%20Streetcar,to%20the%20Tucson%20Mall%20area. and https://news.azpm.org/p/news-topical-biz/2019/12/1/162354-streetcar-from-the-airport-to-tucson-mall-a-federal-grant-could-put-plans-in-motion/ I mean I too wanted the Streetcar to go to the Tucson Mall and down South 6th Avenue but my idea didn't include the Tucson International Airport or the route via Oracle Road, plus I wanted an east route along Broadway as far east as Park Place Mall and perhaps a west route to Tucson West Campus with St. Mary's Hospital included. It was exactly 150 years to the day that the first "iron horse" pulled into town. I thought today I'd share a few tales with y'all about this first railroad which connected to Austin in 1871.
There is a famous photo supposedly taken on the day the first train pulled into town, seen here in the UNT archive.
The description says this:
>Photograph of the front view of a steam train paused on the Waller Creek bridge in Austin. Buildings can be seen on both the right and left hand side of the bridge. There are passengers visible on the platform to the left of the train. On the back of the photograph there is a note that reads "With a little steam left this forerunner of a soon-to-be speeding civilization has stopped on the little Waller Creek bridge in Austin to let the passengers from Houston and other points out a the Depot House, Christmas day, 1871." Also on the back there is a note that reads "504 E 5th(?) Houston & Texas Central."
That first train didn't carry any paying passengers. It was a work train from the railroad company, Houston & Texas Central. I found a neat Travis County Historical Commission Blog page which has a great writeup on the first two routes into Austin:
>On Christmas Day in 1871, Austin got its first train. It was a work train, and it entered the city from east Austin across Waller Creek on the Pine Street bridge (now 5th Street) and stopped at the public square located between Neches and Trinity Streets.[1] The Houston & Texas Central (H&TC) Railway had arrived. To commemorate the occasion, Austinโs leaders organized a ceremonial driving of the last spike. Austin businessman Colonel John H. Swisher was given the honors of swinging the mallet to tap in the spike.[2] The Austin Democratic Statesman reported that โthousands of spectators gathered around to be present at this closing scene, and when the hammer had driven the last spike home, a yell arose from the multitude, and the joyous news flew to every part of the city, that the first railroad to Austin was complete.โ[3]
>Three days later, the H&TC brought in Austinโs first passenger train โ two trains actually โ that carried a throng of excursionists from Houst

Propaganda News Reel begins playing:
Dusk of the 24th of December; Burgess Hill, 40 miles south of London. The hitherto quiet small town was a hotbed of activity, swarming with British troops hastily digging in. Operation Sealion had finally arrived on British shores in full force, and all along the southern British coast, defenders were fully engaged in heavy combat with the massive invasion force.
10 miles south of Burgess Hill, the brave defenders at Brighton beach had put up a ferocious defense, pushing back repeated waves of German landing forces, but the enemy seemed to have limitless numbers. On and on, they came, heedless of their losses. After holding them back from sun up to nearly sun down, the beach's beleaguered defense finally collapsed, exhausted, out of ammunition and overcome by repeated Luftwaffe bombing runs. The path to London now lay open. Or was it?
Ad hoc infantry unit of the Home Guard man a Blacker Bombard
Along the outskirts of Burgess Hill, the men of 5th Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment nervously fidgeted in their hastily dug trenches and foxholes, checking and re-checking their weapons and ammunition. The battalion was an infantry battalion; it boasted little in the way of heavy firepower and they knew it. Between the 600 of them, they had a dozen Boys 0.55 AT rifles, a pair of towed 2 pounder cannon, and a single machine gunned armed Mark VIC light tank scrounged up from a training depot. Nonetheless, they were prepared to fight.
A dust cloud appeared on the southern horizon, and was soon accompanied by the rumble of diesel engines and squeal of metal tracks. The Germans were coming, and coming in force. Distant hazy shapes resolved into the forms of Tauchpanzers III's and IVโs Having learnt their lessons from engaging British Matilda 2s at Arras, these Panzers had been upgunned, n

You may remember that three years ago, I made this headcanon regarding a nationalized American rail network under the Progressive Party. Since then, I've revised it greatly to make it a bit more realistic.
One thing that doesn't change is that the 2ACW is still averted (I'm mainly going off the Kaiserredux mod here) after George Norris won the 1936 election and righted the boat.
Anywho, let's begin:
With Huey Long and Jack Reed satisfied by a relief bill and William H. Murray, leader of the Old Democratic Party, arrested, President Norris turned to other matters. Chief among them was reviewing the United States Army, namely the debate over doctrine; ultimately, Leslie McNair's reforms involving massed artillery strikes was chosen.
Among Norris' priorities, however, was completely restructuring American society. He termed his reforms "capitalism with socialist characteristics", a fancy way of saying "social democracy". His biggest achievement was abolishing the archaic Electoral College, with all future presidential elections decided by the popular vote. But what usually gets lost among his achievements is the reorganization of the entire government.
One of the lesser examples was renaming the various departments to "administrations". For example, the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) was renamed the "United States Justice Administration" (USJA), the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) was renamed the "United States Agricultural Administration" (USAA, not to be confused with the United Services Automobile Association), and the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) was renamed the "United States Transit Administration" (USTA).
The formation of the USTA coincided with the nationalization of almost all forms of transportation in the United States. Each sub-administration was as follows:
Do your worst!
