A list of puns related to "List of Midsomer Murders characters"
It's an episode which concerns two elderly ladies. One is suffocated with a pillow by the other. Both have not long to live. I suppose the one killed the other because she was in pain. Barnaby found out the killer because she lost an earring, and he "caught" her while she retrieved it. More than this, I don't know.
I've seen some really great European crime dramas on Netflix, but I have to believe there's several I'm still truly missing out on. Any diamonds in the rough I'm overlooking?
Midsomer Murders is a British murder mystery series which has taken back the cozy "Murder in a village" genre. Unlike shows like CSI or Murder, She Wrote, there isn't much of a gimmick; it's simply a pair of police inspectors trying to solve a series of murders. No highly-advanced, bullshit forensic science, no little old lady who humiliates the police by being better at solving the crime.
But a very common misconception is that the series takes place in England's most dangerous village, with a similar reputation to Cabot Cove in the United States has with Murder, She Wrote, and it's a reputation that is well-deserved for Midsomer Murders. Because unlike Murder, She Wrote, DCI Barnaby isn't travelling around the glove to solve murders, he's a homicide detective solving crimes in his constabulary.
This has led to the longstanding rumor that if Midsomer was a real village, everyone would've been murdered and driven off long ago. Which is a true fear, since by general categorization, a village can be anywhere between 500 to 2,500 people.
Since the show began there have been 334 murders and a total of 395 deaths, which is impressive since, in the 22 years the show's been airing, of which there are 20 seasons, there's only been 122 episodes. But here's the thing that a lot of people, including the tabloid press that review the week's telly for the TV guides that are sold each week;
Midsomer is a county, not a village.
To better explain this, here's a map of England divided up into it's counties and you'll see the scope of just what I'm talking about. In government administration, a county is a subnational division that is run by a local council.
Now, Midsomer County is fictitious but in terms of geography, it is meant to stand in for either Oxfordshire or Buckinghamshire, the two counties that the show is filmed in. In the show, Inspector Barnaby is part of Causton CID, a police station built in the town of Causton which is the largest town in the county. And in the list of places in Midsomer, there are 88 towns and villages.
But how does that compare to the national average murder rate?
Well, 334 murders divided by the time the show's been aired would be roughly 15.18~ murders a year, which is a good average; there are typically multiple victims an episode since, with ads, they average at two hours ea
... keep reading on reddit ➡Acorn tv seems to have 2 or 3 episodes of Season 20 Midsomer Murders ; and BritBox seems to list all episodes of both Season 20 and 21.
Acorn is $2. cheaper than BritBox. Am I missing something? Why would Acorn have selective episodes?
I was pretty sure I was the new Luther 😠
I saw this wrench-like thing hanging from a garage shelf in the background of an episode of Midsomer Murders (hence the poor image quality, sorry). Anyone know what it is? It looks a bit like a specialized crescent wrench.
I recently read an article from 2018 indicating season 20 was available on Britbox, but I can only see seasons 1-19. Am I missing something? I can’t find season 20.
I think it's an old BBC TV series that netflix has licensed. All the stories are set in a fictional British county with a bunch of villages inside the county. And each episode has a new story with murders in a different village. The interesting thing is that each story is super complex and keeps you guessing and re-guessing. It has about 15 or 16 series but each series only has 4 or 5 episodes. And each episode is 1.45 hours long!
If you are into Law and Order or Criminal Minds, Father brown etc, you'll like this one.
EDIT: Fixed "village" to "county"

I was wondering are ITV ever going to air the last couple of episodes of Season 20 of Midsomer Murders or is it gonna be a strictly Britbox exclusive?
Mine is the one where a student at a posh school is stabbed during a race and it turns out to be a conspiracy on the part of the groundskeeper and the headmaster to protect the secret treasures of "the pudding club." I also like the one where the pub landlord who is obsessed with the fifties and in love with his mum kills people with a scythe whilst playing big band music.

....and I'm sure I've seen all of them, some better than others. I recently bought a new SmartTV which just means I have a tough time making it work the way I want. There are two places to find MM in the Smart TV world.
I noticed last week one episode from Season 7, called The Green Man. I think I've seen it before but don't remember much if I had, but I liked this story. Some of my favorite UK actors have a script that you'd really have to know what they're talking about. Of course, I use closed captions for a long time and it helps to make it easier to hear the story. And I noticed tonight part of story was 3 teen boys who kept getting in trouble and ended up dying; one of them was a very young Henry Cavill and it took me a minute to figure out who I was seeing.
On the plus side i get to find out lots of TV personalities i thought dead long ago are still alive and now doing cameo roles in murder mysteries. Oh yes, and of course they are the murderer.
I have recently watched all of MM and these are my thoughts:
The Nettles years (S01-S13) are sublime, especially the first 7 seasons.
Everything about them is simply wonderful - cinematography, acting, script, locations, props
There are so many times when you get a shot of morning mist across a valley, when it is wholly unnecessary to the story; they do it just cos they can
And glorious vintage vehicles, that simply would not have existed at the time - simply to help set the mood; to remind us it is a bygone age
S14+ and slowly all this splendour dies away - Dudgeon has none of Nettles' charm and is only going through the motions.
And then when the sidekick Jones goes away it all goes to pot and all we are left with is self parody/soap opera
And the last few seasons, where all I can recall is Volvo product placement
But the Nettles years were wonderful
