A list of puns related to "List of American atheists"
Is this a good or bad thing?
One part of me is saying that this suggests there are so few American atheists that they can all be listed.
On the other hand, maybe secret atheists will be inspired by the famous people who are actually atheists that they didn't know about.
On the other other hand, Ayn Rand was technically an atheist. It's never good to be the same list as Ayn Rand.
So far I've got GMC, and TheraminTrees.
The post can be found here .
Apologies if this seems a bit political for r/atheism, but it was removed from r/PoliticalDiscussion for being too philosophical with the suggestion that I bring it here.
So basically, the Christian Right stance on the origin of civil rights in the establishment of the US government is literalist interpretation of the US Constitution: That rights are "endowed by our Creator". (EDIT: Which I am perfectly aware is not in the Constitution. It doesn't stop the right from making the argument on the assumption that it is.) However, plenty of atheists in 2021 fight for civil rights on a regular basis and clearly believe in human rights.
Therefore, the question I pose is simple: From whence do civics-minded atheists, particularly those in the US as the wording of discussion is in the US Constitution specifically, believe rights originate? For those of who you believe the state endows rights, would it be proper to assume that the state is also within its bounds to revoke rights? Why or why not?
I want to make clear that I'm not here for a political debate, only to hear thoughts on the matter. I don't intend to engage short of asking for deeper thoughts where intrigued, and I'm hoping arguments in general can be prevented should this pass moderation, but each comment is its own. I just want it known that this is intended as a political theory question, not a theological debate in the making.
in 1700, husbands hitting their wives and owning slaves was accepted by churches, priests, and pastors as a normal thing
In all of "christian" history, pastors & priests were proud to announce from their pulpit that slaves must obey masters, and had many verses in their bibles to justify that. Those verses are still there (Ephesians 6:5)
Until 1865 in the USA, any runaway slave could be forcibly returned to their "owner", and pastors & priests were 100% behind that notion
in the 1890's telephones were opposed by pastors & priests as instruments of the devil
Until the 1920's in the USA,, women could not vote, and pastors & priests opposed it vigorously even afterwards
In the 1950's pastors & priests opposed television as the instrument of the devil
Right now, in the USA, there are still many churches, pastors & priests who preach against inter-racial marriage and gay marriage
Right now, in the USA, there are still many churches, pastors & priests who support CHILD MARRIAGE, especially the Quivering and home school type sects & cults. They believe girls as young as 10 should be "promised" to another christian family. At 15, they encourage or even force these girls to marry and have huge families
Right now, in the USA, there are still many churches, pastors & priests who believe women should not work outside the home, and be forced to remain housekeepers their entire lives
Right now in the USA there are still many churches who believe any form of birth control is evil, and "against god"
Right now in the USA there are overwhelming numbers of christians, priests, and pastors who are ignorant about why some abortions are necessary to save the life of the mother
Eclampsia, septicemia, and other complications WILL KILL THE MOTHER without a timely abortion, but these christians are either ignorant or don't care
Recently in Ireland a woman was murdered by neglect in a hospital because the baby inside her was dying but doctors refused absolutely to give her a life saving abortion
Her name was Savita Hallapanavar, and I never look at her beautiful face without thinking about how religious doctrine turned into law, killed a wonderful woman

These examples are just some of what christians, pastors and priests are doing, and have done fo

Since leaving my religion, i've come to realize I badly need some kind of moral framework. Winging it isn't enough anymore, as someone with a very weak disgust reaction, religion was probably created to curb the behavior of people like me

Hello, Iβm a prolife person from the r/prolife subreddit. I decided to try to do my own research on the current popularity of Abortion in the US and come to a reasonable unbiased opinion on the subject. Iβve posted this post to both subs r/prochoice and r/prolife to keep both sides up to date. Even though Iβm biased in favor of prolife, Iβm going to try to keep any bias to a minimum and instead Iβm simply going to post what the current polling suggests.
##General Stats
People who identify as Prolife and Prochoice are nearly tied with 49% of people identifying as prochoice and 47% identifying as prolife.
Despite this, 70% of Americans claim to not want Roe v Wade overturned oddly enough.
Governor Abbott is currently mostly unapproved of, but it is likely because of his poor handling of COVID, not the abortion ban. That is more unpopular outside of Texas than inside of it.
##By Race and Religion
Recent polling suggests that Whites and Hispanics are roughly tied on views on abortion (within statistical margin of error). Blacks and Asians are by far the most pro-choice of the minority groups polled.
Blacks have however rapidly shifted their views on abortion. Shifting from majority pro-life to majority pro-choice within a decade.
White Catholics are less likely to be pro-life than Hispanic Catholics interestingly. This could be because being Catholic is more of a religious default for Hispanics.
White Evangelicals are by far the most pro-life major religious group, Catholics are actually more likely to believe abortion should be legal in all/most cases than illegal in all/most cases. White Evangelicals being overwhelmingly prolife makes sense because they were the faction that lead the charge against abortion in the first place, and itβs still a major key issue for them.

>People are often surprised when they find out what incredible companies were started by Asian American founders. Iβve been told by many founders that seeing our list of Hyphen Capital LPs is inspiring because they never realized that some of these companies were founded by Asian Americans, and they are Asian themselves! One founder even told me that he forwarded the website to his parents to prove to them that you can actually be successful by starting your own company. Seeing these logos and this list of names assembled together in one place is extremely powerful.

I am so sick of this rhetoric. It's so fucking annoying that this kind of bullshit keeps getting shoved down my throat. I get it, you believe in freedom, but you sure as fuck don't get that America is for free thinking Americans and Americans should be free to live their lives how they want without anyone telling them what to do. I'm sorry that you cannot comprehend this. I really am.
I see the strange hold that Christianity has on my culture and it is sickening that people would be as militant against non believers than the people who purposefully forced us into believing these fairy tales.
The following DD is made by an American Midwest Gen X Mom. All credits goes to her. I have however gone through the data, the details and formatted it for Reddit and added some images, but she has really put a lot of hard work and wrinkled thoughts into it. Feel free to use it, discuss it etc. The author tries to stay away from social medias for her own reasons, but it's her words and I promised to share it and let her voice be heard. She just really likes the stock!
Note: This is not financial advice. It is pieces of the big puzzle. Don't expect anything from dates, or AMC/GME being on/off the list. Time is working against shorts. Be patient. HODL.

Seriously, just read it β I tried hard to put this together well - to inform, but also add my own little splash of loving fun while peppering some wisdom of advancing years.
But, if you cannot, will not, or do not want to read my DD on the following pages here you go:
1. THE LIST + MEANING: The NYSE Threshold List, relatively unknown to many Apes before last week, has offered us a window to an important piece of history in this journey. I cannot tell you what it truly means - I am not a wizard, BUT β AMC/GME have been on a path together for almost 2 years. They are different with distinctive strengths + weaknesses (almost like your kids or pets or friends), but what they do have in common is their unique 18-month history on this important red flag list.
2. THE BIG RED FLAG: The Regulation SHO Threshold Securities list was implemented by the SEC in Jan 2005, to help reduce naked short selling practices.1 It is meant to be a Red Flag warning something is amiss with a security + in 2020 β GME and AMC were flaming red.
3. THE DATA: In the last 18-month period, AMC + GME were THE stocks which spent THE most time on the NYSE Threshold list. By far. This is out of thousands of NYSE market securities that could possibly BE on the list and then out of the 105 stocks that made the NYSE Threshold list from January 2020 β June 30, 2021.
