A list of puns related to "Lipstick pickup"
Got a Squier affinity tele and really love the ceramic, cold and twangy sound of the bridge pickup but the muddy neck pick up is a real flat tire and is putting me on the train to squaresville. I really like the tone of a lipstick pickup, but heard it has a super low output and I don't know how that'd work with the single coil bridge. is there a way to get a more even output from both of them, or would It not really be an issue?
I recently scored a set of three Chandler lipstick pickups, and an additional Chandler lipstick pickup from the same year but not wound as part of the set.
I was thinking of using all four to make a quasi HSS with the fourth pickup wired in series, and some other fun toggle switching - is this possible though?
I checked what I can of the North/South of the pickups, and the extra pickup is the same polarity as the Neck and Bridge of the set.
I'm not worried about hum cancelling with the fourth pickup, just wanting to avoid phase cancellation.
Currently refurbing a MIC dano i picked up on the cheap. Hate the look of the frosted gray pickups, was going to replace them with some stock Danelectro LP-1s (about $35 a pickup) until I stumbled upon some Duncan SLD-1s at $70 a pop.
Not only are these pickups getting harder to find (seems like SD is focusing on the strat model atm while the bridge model has all but disappeared) but most listings on ebay have them going for about $85 a pickup.
Has anyone compared the Duncan's to Danelectro's current offerings?
Seem's funny to to pay big bucks for a boutique pickup that was essentially designed to be cheap, but if they're anything like the lipsticks in my old Silvertone, I'd be more than than happy to cough up the cash.
Thanks in advance.
As I said in the title i have a custom guitar here I made a while back. It's a strat with the guts of a HH jaguar. I put a lipstick pickup in the middle that's hooked up via an SPST switch. I hooked it up wrong apparently as its glassy sounding and significantly lowers the output of the pickups when it's switched on. I used to like the sound but I'm interested in fixing it to see what the pickup actually sounds like lol. I'm assuming the pickup is wired up out of phase. It's a 2 conductor single coil lipstick pickup. Should I just swap the wires? Or am I thinking about this wrong?
i saw an old post about p90s on a bass and i wondered if any other non-traditional ideas had come to fruition

If you check my submitted on my profile you can see the old pickup in comparison to the new lipstick pup. It's wild how much brighter and more jangly it is than the original strat middle pickup. I actually used an 8K output bridge GFS pro-tube for the middle considering the buckers are Fender Enforcers and are ridiculously high output. The SPST switch in place of the 2nd tone is the on/off for the middle pickup like I said in my last post of this guitar. With the low cut switch on and the bridge humbucker running with the pro-tube it gives it a crazy spanky/quacky ultra-tele sound and the 24k Enforcers handle metal and high gain like nobody's business. I can then blend the humbuckers in to singles with the low cut or middle pickup on or off for literally about 80 different sounds. It's my Swiss army guitar!

I got a secondhand Jag recently (with a gloriously janky Fiesta Red/hot pink DIY paint job), & I'm thinking about swapping out the pickups since they're pretty similar the vintage hot spec pickups in my Strat.
I've got Novaks in a Jazzmaster & love them, so I'm considering going back to him for the Jag. I like the idea of the super low output lipsticks (I get all my gain from pedals & play through a clean Fender amp) because they're different than anything I've already got.
Has anybody around these parts played them? Or even Dano lipsticks in a Jag? Any advice or recommendations?
I'm looking to buy a cheap squire affinity HSS to take away to university. I have a tele and a strat at home but i don't want to take either to university so I'm going to buy a cheap travel guitar. iw as thinking i would put in a telecaster neck pickup and leave the rest of the pick ups. I see that the telecaster neck pickup is smaller than the strats. Is there any way to make this work?
I'm gathering the supplies for my first full guitar build, which I will be using for Post Rock & Ambient music. While searching for what pickups I want, I really loved the sound of lipstick tube humbuckers. I've noticed though that I have yet to see anyone use those type of pickups in the genre, is there a reason why not? Are they too harsh in the upper register or too thin for this type of effect & reverb heavy music? Also does anyone here have any experience with them in this type of music? Audio clips would be great.
Edited for clarity & grammar/typos
So I'm planning on starting my first guitar build but had a few questions. I want to have one pick up with just one volume knob. Is setting up a guitar with just one single coil/lipstick with one knob possible? If so what will sound better? Any buying recommendations? something affordable? Thanks!
Hey folks I did this demo for Tone Man Guitar who builds wiring harnesses. For those who wonder about upgrading their wiring, which I think is a great first step (before swapping pickups). Enjoy! Jack https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETE_ERkLSLg
Any other players out there got a guitar with lipstick pickups in it? Given their nature and lowered output, I am looking for suggestions on good clean boost pedals that can help me raise the volume of a Danelectro baritone to match what I get out of my SG's humbuckers.
I was wondering if anyone had done it. I know that they wouldn't have adjustable intonation, but I think it might be interesting. I'm guessing it would look like this, but no idea what it would sound like.
Any info you have would be great.

I had a Dano-electric, it was noisy but I loved the tone. Then it was stolen. I was given a battered Series A Capsule ripoff electric which I immediately replaced the neck pickup with a GFS lipstick pickup. My setup is currently:
Joyo American Sound - BOSS Space Echo - Direct Input
or Joyo American sound into small Mackie Mix8 mixer - with Space Echo AUX send
The Series A Capsule ripoff is sending a ton of hum/ noise. I am considering buying the GFS low noise lipstick pickups and replacing the bridge pickup, maybe both bridge and neck. Problem is the Series A pickguard doesn't fit the lipstick pickups nicely, so I had to cut a bunch out, making a battered guitar look even worse.
Any suggestions to how can I find or make a Capsule style pickguard to replace the one I have and fit the lipstick pickups? Would the low noise GFS lipstick pickups solve the hum/noise? Or do I need to shield this guitar better?
Or should I scrap the SeriesA capsule ripoff and buy another guitar to swap in low noise lipstick style pickups?
I'm just curious if there are any. I keep having this fantasy of having a Danelectro with the jangly stock bridge pickup with a spicy neck pickup. I'm talking, very spicy. Like closer to a hot rail than a standard humbucker in terms of output. I doubt there are any, but I figured I'd ask anyways.
