Lindisfarne or Bamburgh Castle? Which can be seen from London - Edinburgh train?
Many years ago while riding on the London to Edinburgh train, I saw a wonderful castle/fortress way off in the distance by the sea. I was truly enraptured by the sight, and have wondered for years what structure it was that I saw. I narrowed it down to either Bamburgh Castle or Lindisfarne.
Lindisfarne castle - Northumbria 1550. Built with the stones of the ruined Lindisfarne Priory. Site of the infamous 793 Viking raid and the beginning of the Viking age.
Bamburgh Castle: Northumberland UK. Quick pit stop after Lindisfarne Priory, I was planning on only visiting English Heritage society castles but I couldn’t resist this one.

Lindisfarne Castle on Holy island, Northumberland, England. Built in the 16th-century and altered in 1901. This was also the site of the Lindesfarne Priory, the 793 sack of which heralded the beginning of the Viking Age of Invasion in the British Isles.
