roanoke is not the strongest season but Adina Porter acted her fucking ASS off. I genuinely forgot she’s an actor playing a character.
I didn't want to respond comments in yesterdays post - so here is my opinion and breakdown........Take it as you will.
No hate toward Mike, I just have a general distaste left by his constant need to put fills and pizazz in every literal place he could, often to the visual disdain of WPC while playing live.......
He also had a terrible habit of speeding up the tempo as he played or the songs went on - forcing the rest of the band to keep up with him. Again, much to the visual disdain of WPC........
There has to be some ebb and flow (the drummer and bass keep the tempo going, while WPC drives things forward).....see how most seminal and intact bands do so (WPC/JC/JI/JS are an easy example here). There is no love lost when one of them decides to be a little more Harry Potter for a riff or 2, with Mike there was....
He was also not very natural or anticipatory of the songs he was playing....more off the seat of his pants. Go watch him play BWBW on July 1st somewhere, and then on July 2nd the next show....completely different approach and feel and tempo and fills each time. It gets old
These are just my opinions, again - Im a fellow drummer and musician of 20+ years.
I think Matt Walker and Kenny did OKAY....neither hold a candle to JC or Mike, talent wise - but they had a better FEEL for the songs they were playing.
Tommy Lee did a decent job on Monuments - he slid in, left his mark, did his job well, and was done.
Brad Wilk was just not good live, in every sense of the words.
WPC/SP fans can spin it however they want, but from a musically tactical standpoint - he was not a great fit for SP or WPC's style of playing. It's not that hard to pick up on.
Is he an awesome and very talented drummer? Absolutely, 8 days a week, 365.
