A list of puns related to "Janus Films"
Would love to have some insight on your favorites.
In light of the movie being removed from YouTube and likely rereleased soon, Iβm interested in setting up a screening of Inland Empire at my University for friends and anyone interested. Does anybody know how much Janus might charge for a screening? I know lesser known films are usually cheaperβ¦ any advice is appreciated.
Edit: this would be a public screening through my schoolβs film club. They only show movies that they get a license for (they mention that specifically on their website) and Iβd be on the hook for paying for that.
Edit again: Iβd love to get people in that had never heard of the movie or of lynch before because I really love sharing interesting movies with people and Inland Empire is WEIRD

I work at a small library and we recently acquired the collection, only without the book. We plan on making these DVDs available to our patrons, but we want to include any important content from the book as well, such as the introduction by Martin Scorsese and the essay by Peter Cowie. If you own the book, could we arrange a discussion on the subject?
Excellent news! I've been wanting to see this for the longest time but I couldn't find a copy anywhere. With the rise in anti-Asian hate, this doc is probably more timely than ever.
>Who Killed Vincent Chin?

>Christine Choy, USA, 1987, 82m

>Not so much a documentary murder investigation as a meticulously constructed meditation on the race relations, economic forces, and failings of the American legal system that comprised the backdrop for the murder of a Chinese-American automotive engineer in Detroit in 1982, Christine Choyβs Who Killed Vincent Chin? remains a stirring, absorbing elegy for justice unserved. Drawing from interviews with Chinβs family and friends and Chinβs killer, automotive assembly-line worker Ron Ebens, along with a wealth of archival footage, Who Killed Vincent Chin? paints a complex and tragically relevant portrait of an America roiled by socioeconomic unease, the crisis of the automotive industry (Ebens wrongly believed Chin to be Japanese during their terrible encounter), and the prevalence of xenophobia. A Janus Films release. Restored by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Film Archive and The Film Foundation, in association with the Museum of Chinese in America. Restoration funding provided by the Hobson/Lucas Family Foundation, with additional support provided by Todd Phillips.
Is an announcement imminent? Only a matter of time now.
I was at a screening of the new restoration of Detour which was followed by a Skype call with Ben Crossley-Marra from Janus Films. He was asked to give a teaser for upcoming Janus projects and that was his answer. Both should be coming in 2020.
Edit: The Kiarostami retrospective has already been announced to be starting in August this year. I believe Ben was talking about its home video release which will be in 2020.
If Iβm reading this correctly, Criterion is working on the 4K restorations and Janus will be touring the retrospective starting in New York. Itβs being done to mark the 20th of In the Mood for Love. The other restored films are As tears Go By, Days of Being Wild, Fallen Angels, Happy Together, and The Hand.
If youβve never seen In the Mood for Love, itβs wonderful, and you can spot its influence on lush, emotional movies from directors like Todd Haynes and Tom Ford. And Chungking Express is hip and kinetic and provided a direct inspiration for Tarantino.
If you could swap out one or two of the 50 films in this set that you personally think would make the entire set better, which one(s) with what film(s)?
One rule: It's gotta be a film currently in, or announced for release into, the Criterion Collection.
Please also state how many you have seen of the current set.
