It looks like around 500,000 people attend the Surgis rally each year. Iowa State Fair claimed over 1 million attendees this year: https://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/local/iowa-state-fair/2021/08/13/iowa-state-fair-attendance-2021-daily-figures-fairgrounds-compared-2019/5498835001/
could be a rough few weeks, especially coupled with most schools starting back up here, too.
Denizens of Des Moines, whatβs the most degenerate food that I can subject my body at this state fair?
Apologies if this is not the right place for this question, and apologies the title sounds so absurd - but I really am asking in earnest.
I was born in Des Moines but moved to Texas in the mid nineties when I was in second grade. I have many wonderful memories of visiting the state fair when I was little and remember various animal rides. I think for the most part they were camel or ostrich rides, but I have a very specific memory of one year the special ride being on a giraffe.
The memory has been a joke between my husband and I for a long time because of how absurd it sounds but we just had our friend say he also remembers something like this.
So, anyone else have any memory of this that corroborates my own? Or is it simply a fantastical memory my childhood imagination dreamed up?
Iβve looked everywhere online and itβs all old information. Also they used to print a map of where they were all located. Last but not least, whatβs the average cost of a regular beer? Can you tell Iβm eagerly awaiting the fairπ€£ππ‘
