A list of puns related to "Independence Arch"
Hi, great community and looking for some advice please?
I'm 30m and very fit. Go to the gym almost daily and focus on weight training, yoga and flexibility. Don't focus on cardio specifically but I'm blessed that everything else I do means my cardio is great so overall I'm very happy physically.
Ever since I can remember my right foot (dominant foot for soccer etc) has a 50% lower arch than my left foot. I tried to get this corrected as a kid even though I wasn't getting any issues from it at all (stupid, I now know in hindsight).
I was given special innersoles to help support the arch in shoes but they were rubbish and luckily didn't screw anything else up while wearing them.
I still have 0 issues with this imbalance but was wondering if it was worth looking at fixing for the future at all? I did have some form of inflammatory arthritis in the big toe joint of the same foot caused by traumatic injury playing way too much soccer on 4G pitches when at university but again this has caused no long term problems other than a small bone buildup on the joint. I also had patella tendonitis in both knees around the same time but again this has medically gone away by itself. I guess I'm super lucky.
I also have quite long toes and have never been able to move them independently from what I can remember, they either go up on down all as one. I get cramps fairly often in the soles/sides of my feet, especially after intense exercise. I don't think the general population has this problem so was looking for any advice.
Any barefoot footwear recommendations to help on my journey? I wear classic Crocs often at home etc but no idea if these are any good. I have to wear shoes when I leave the house really.
Didn't mean the huge message but any help would be appreciated.
Let me know if pictures/videos are required and I can add to comments.
Thanks in advance!
I have dual boot with Debian and Windows 10. Yesterday I updated my debian. Everything went well (actually not very well, because after reboot everything was black, but it was very late and I left it for today). Today I had to log in to windows, because I had to edit a document with word. I was working for about 30 minutes, but suddenly the screen went black. I was only able to move the cursor. I rebooted the computer, but I was not-very good surprised to see that it didn't take me to the dual boot menu. Instead, there was a message "Invalid arch-independent elf magic" and "grub rescue". Soo can I fix it on my own or I have to say goodbye to 20 bucks because of leaving it to a specialist.
(Sorry if my English is bad, it's not my native language)
I asked this to my friend and he said independent Linux distro offers very vanilla DE experience while derivatives from that distro already modified the DE to the point it'll break the DE if you tried to change the themes & the icons, but I'm still not impressed. Is there any main advantage other than that?
Coming from using sway, which was starting to feel more cumbersome to use, but I'd like to be able to swap workspaces on each screen independently. Any way to enable this that I'm overlooking?
Also, unrelated, noticing lots of flickering context menus, and the task manager has already crashed like 5 times in under an hour. Any ideas why?
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

*Edit: 29.1 and 29.2 Update notes have been added to the bottom of this post.
This post will be divided into the following sections:
Today the world is connected more than ever, but ironically, the vast swathe of information has overwhelmed us all. It is difficult to tell which sources of information are trustworthy, and which ones are, to borrow from the great philosopher Donald Trump, βfake newsβ. Thus, I believe that it is important for me to be transparent and begin this piece of writing with a disclaimer.
First of all, I am not a historian. My qualifications are in pharmaceutical science and I have a Mastersβ degree in Biomedical Engineering. That being said, I have had the chance to work for the Indonesian Embassy in Spain for a few years, and I am in regular correspondence with networks from the Indonesian Foreign Service. My day-to-day routine requires me to keep up to date with national and international politics, study foreign languages, as well as to continuously learn about history and culture.
Secondly, I may have a bias when approaching the topic of Sriwijaya, especially on the theme of religion, as I myself am a practicing Buddhist. A lot of my studies about this are motivated by a desire to study the Hindu-Buddhist heritage of my own country and to preserve it. Indonesian Buddhists of various ethnic backgrounds: Chinese, Javanese and Palembang-Malays are particularly proud of Sriwijaya's legacy, as we shall see later in Section 7 of my essay.
Third, I will only be relying on published books and research journals, which I will provide the links for (wherever possible) so that you may check them out for yourself. An exception will be made for a picture of the Borobudur temple, as well as some sources for Section 7 βThe Legacy of Sriwijaya Todayβ, as I will show some photos and videos of people in present-day Sumatra. I shall provide the original sources of those pictures/videos.
The goal of this essay is not to produce a peer-reviewed paper, but simply to provide you with some basic information about Sriwijaya. As such, my essay will be directed for a general audience and will skip some details for the sake of simplicity. I encourage you to give me feedback after you have read it and to point out mistakes

Hi, I have been using ArchLinux for quite some time now. It was the first and only distro that I tested and I really like it, especially jumping from Windows. I wish I did this long before.
However, I am facing a problematic issue, that I would like to bring to the table for discussion and suggestions.
I am a scientific researcher and I am supposed to write a conference paper that has a Word template that we need to cope with. The problem is that opening this template in LibreOffice Writer does not render the template correctly (I know that Word is not complying with the ODF standards...), thus I am stuck. It must be added that this conference paper template is provided by the publisher itself (Ernst and Sohn btw).
So, how can we rely on free software if an independent player (E and S) is forcing the usage of payed software? This affects strongly the Linux community IMO, and I am sure that different examples exist.
What should I do? And as a community what should we do?
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
They were cooked in Greece.
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies π
Hello once again. So, my previous research into this concept of an overarching conflict between the Primeval Light and the Primordial Darkness has led to an epiphany concerning the Sylvari lore. I'm going to talk about things assuming a general comprehension of my last post on that topic, but the gist of it is: there is a force of light and a force of darkness in the universe that are at odds and most of the Guild Wars franchise is centered around this conflict.
I'd previously thought that this force I've been calling the Primordial Darkness wasn't as well established in the lore, but it's become clear to me that it just goes by another name: Nightmare.
Sylvari understand the Nightmare to be a force of darkness that seeks to poison their minds and infect the Dream of Dreams. This is established as early as the tutorial in the Sylvari personal story, where the player character meets Caithe within the Dream and is recruited to repel a great evil she says is a manifestation of the Nightmare itself: the Shadow of the Dragon.
The waters are immediately muddied though when we learn that our Wyld Hunt (our purpose given to us by the Dream) is to defeat an elder dragon and that this draconic entity we saw in the Dream was related to that quest. Later, it is revealed Caithe shares this Wyld Hunt with us, and we join her in trying to find a way to defeat the dragons (specifically Zhaitan).
The Shadow of the Dragon is VERY important, but let's first go into some background concerning the nature of Nightmare.
The chief agents of this dark force within the Sylvari are the Nightmare Court. As described by the wiki, their mission is to corrupt the Pale Tree and the Dream with visions of Nightmare, in their minds "freeing" the Sylvari from the shackles of the ideals placed upon them by Ronan and Ventari's legacy. They are the central antagonists in much of the Sylvari personal story and also feature prominently in the Twilight Arbor dungeon.
What's most curious about the Nightmare, however, is that it doesn't seem to stem from the Dream itself; at least not exclusively.
Just North of Morgan's Spiral in Caledon Forest lies a Nightmare Court hub called Briarthorn Den, and you can actually disguise yourself as a member of the court in order to infiltrate and better understand their motivations. Talk to one Executioner Eorana, and she'll tell you more about the Nightmare itself.
When asked "where does Nightmare come from", she says this: "Nowhere. Everywhere. It has
... keep reading on reddit β‘Someone asked a question at r/AskHistorians about Justin Martyr's claim that skeptics could just look at records of the census (from the Gospel of Luke)
The top comment (currently a little under 430 upvotes as of this writing) over there really bothers me, and I am going to explain why.
OK the commenter notes that Jesus was probably born in Nazareth and not Bethlehem, which I agree with.
Then things start to go off the rails.
He says,
>There is another Problem, and that is that it is far from proven that the Bethlehem that is attested for the centuries after Christ is indeed the Bethlehem mentioned in the old Testament (which is also attested in the Amarna letters). There is a fair chance that that what is today Bethlehem was only ascribed as such during the period in which also Justin Martyr writes (first half and middle of the second Century).
Wait, so people in the 2nd century just decided "yeah this town is Bethlehem"? What? Why?
>On a side note, if the Marcion hypothesis holds true it would make the author of the Gospel of Luke and Justin Marty roughly contemporary
The problem with this is that GLuke cannot be contemporary with Justin Martyr, because Justin uses a Gospel harmony that already includes Luke, as our best contributor at r/AcademicBiblical, zanillamilla points out^(1)
>For one thing, the gospel cannot be contemporary with Justin Martyr because the latter is dependent on a gospel harmony of the synoptics that is possibly ancestral to the one completed by his student Tatian, see (sexual harrasser) Helmut Koester's and William L. Peterson's chapters in Ancient Christian Gospels (SCM Press, 1990), pp. 360-430. So Luke is earlier than the harmony that Justin was dependent on.
The late scholar Larry Hurtado also thought Justin used a Gospel harmony that included Luke^(2):
>Second, if we examine Justinβs references to these βmemoirs of the apostles,β he often quotes from them, and what he quotes is recognizable, most often from the Gospel of Matthew, but also sometimes from Luke and (less obviously) the other familiar Gospels. Indeed, these references include narrative material, including references to the narratives of Jesusβ trial, crucifixion and resurrection (e.g., Dialogue with Trypho 101:3; 102:3; 103:6; 104:1; 105:1, 5-6; 106:1, 3, 4; 107:1). So, weβre not dealing with something like a s

A post made earlier where the Lodge was identified as being in Athol, MA made me wonder whether there are any surviving Lodges actually consecrated under the Antients (aka Athol) Grand Lodge still active in America today. Odds are short, obviously as they would have to have been consecrated after 1751 and before 1776 ish.
There are still over 200 "Atholl" Lodges active today under the banner of the UGLE so I wondered if there were any over there.

>The pace of the series' second season allows for a more rewarding sophomore arc as it shifts focus to its characters instead of its continuity.
>The season presents a strong sophomore entry for the existing fans of the show. [...But] the world is no easier to step back into and a Season One rewatch is essential...
>Season 2... seems to not only have learned from the missteps of its predecessor but is even willing to gently poke fun at itself in the process.

>So far, The Witcher Season 2 holds on to just enough of its arched eyebrow to survive; here's hoping it remains the show so many became addicted to in the first place.
>The Witcher's second season is vastly more confident about leaning into the high fantasy and higher stakes of Sapkowski's lore...
Original Score: B+
>The second season has great momentum that keeps it moving forward, along with an even more well-rounded cast than before. But it also felt like the show was slowly moving away from much of what made it so distinct.
>The Witcher season 2 is an undeniable improvement on an unnecessarily complicated first season.
