A list of puns related to "Illinois School for the Visually Impaired"
I am a student studying architecture and I have to create a house for 3 visually impaired people living in a mini-cohousing model, and I am having a hard time understanding how visually impaired people see life, so I would be glad if someone would be able to get back to me with some advice, from their experience. Maybe you are one, or you know someone with whom I may be able to talk...
Thanks.
I am registered visually impaired (blind but with some usable sight) and I struggle with the constant ads in some apps. The developers use tiny X's that are hard to see and require pinpoint accuracy to close the ad. I understand that they need to use ads to generate the cash to pay for the app but I guess this generates more cash than a one off purchase of the app. I hate that many apps have taken up the subscription route to milk users for more cash. Very few developers create content with accessibility for people with visual impairments, we are ignored because it's seen that we don't generate enough cash for these guys. I have petitioned Google but as you can imagine, there's been no response and likely never will be as long as they're making money too.
So I was doing the CBSE practice questions and in the second comprehension I came across this question:
Since the option(A) is the same it doesnt matter right?

I am looking to get a watch to wear while working. I am a massage therapist and I need a way to read my time in a way that is not going to disturb my client such as having a watch speak to me or my phone. Tell me the time. I need to watch you can feel. I remember when I was a kid they had to watches where the glass would flip up and you could feel the hands but those are finicky I remember and you would accidentally change the time all the time. I remember hearing about a watch that uses like magnets and ball bearings? Anyways, what is the best watch and why? And if you have links that would be awesome. Thank you all for your feedback.
Luckily they turned a blind eye.
Hi everyone,
I am registered severe sight impaired, and for the most part, it just means I need to increase font size on subtitles and sit very close to my screen. Most games aren't too much of an issue, but Rockstar (in particular GTA games) tend to be some of the worst offenders because of their over reliance on a small mini map in the corner of the screen. I am unable to see the minimap and the rest of the screen at the same time, because I need to move in close to the mini-map, and thus, I cannot see the rest of what is happening.
I am early in the game, and I just did a bike chase mission. I struggled a lot because if I lost sight of the biker, I would need to rely on the small red dot on the mini map. This means I cannot look at the screen as a whole and I am essentially only looking at a mini map. Many crashes ensued haha.
For people that have played the game, are all of these chase-style missions pretty lenient in terms of its time limits? For example, this particular mission wasn't actually a "chase", you basically just had to ride your bike until a certain point, and then the next part of the mission would begin (I haaaate it when games do this. "We need to wait for the elevator!".... really? Or, do we need to kill all enemies and then the elevator comes down?). So, I probably could have just casually drove through and not worried about catching the guy.
Do most of the chase missions fall into that category? If so, I'll fight through it. Otherwise, if the game relies heavily on the mini map with strict goals, I might have to stop playing.
Thank you for your help! The accessibility menu only provides increased font size. I wish there was an option to have objective paths laid out on the road itself (think Dead Space, or Red Faction Guerrilla).
Recently, a man followed my father home yelling and screaming at him because he has partial vision, therefore his sight cane is a lie and he's faking he's condition. This guy followed him home, banged on the door and threatened to kill him, pointing his fingers like a gun at the cameras and trying to pry open the security screen.
According to the neighborhood, this is a common occurrence with this gentleman, but no one has filed charges out of fear of the man. With that knowledge my dad decided to be the first to make sure he got the attention he deserved, as the authorities ignored his incidents otherwise.
Fast forward to now, there is a high probability they are going to declare him incompetent, which where they live this doesn't mean anything more than the charges being dropped and him being released. My dad wants to get a firearm for home defense, but my mom is vehemently opposed to them.
I keep getting stuck in the middle of this, asked to discuss with my mom, though I know her opinion will not be changing no matter what I have to say. Moving is not an option, they just moved into their dream neighborhood where they plan on living out their days. My dad currently has a taser and mace, but doesn't feel that is enough.
Does anyone have any advice on either direction of this? I am partial to someone in the home having a defense, though I'm not sure how about my father himself handling a firearm with a paranoid mindset going in on top of his visual impairment, and I'm open to any ways of resolving... well, anything really.
Hi all,
I'm a Masters student at the University of Bristol, studying Anthropology with Innovation.
My team and I are currently working on a project concerning leisure experiences for the visually impaired, specifically in terms of entertainment. We would love to gain some insight from the members of this group who are partially sighted - We'd be grateful if you could answer the following 3 questions!
Thanks!
Is there a listing of opensource/freeware software and/or apps for the visually impaired including the blind that will make it easier to use the internet?
I lost hearing for over a ear recently. During that time I discovered that there were technology readily available on both my Android smartphone and Windoze computer that helped me stay close to normal day-to-day even though I couldn't hear. I use that knowledge I picked up to help others whenever I can. Also, I'm blessed that CI restored my mono hearing this year.
In the course of helping others with technology, I am helping a person who is blind. She became blind later in life.
The goal here is for her to use the internet. She didn't even have Email so I started there but I see the Gmail client may be a bit too much options - easy to navigate for the seeing but perhaps a little challenging for some who is blind ... please correct me if I'm wrong.
To help her, I am learning from her like how he uses a software/contraption called "jaws" to use her computer. I started doing research to better help her with other software, preferably opensource or freeware as that will help her financially, but frankly I don't know where to even begin.
If there are such lists out there, I'll apppreciate a heads up. I will continue my own research as I'm an old geek.
Next time we meet, she will come to our meeting place with her laptop & jaws(?) so I can see how she uses it for starters.
Thank you!
The aim for the project is pretty simple. I would record my playthrough of Xenogears. Then go over the dialogue with voice actors and provide descriptive narrations. The idea is that even if you are completely blind, you can experience the story of Xenogears and get an idea of gameplay.
Awhile back, I made a small sample of the music box scene from chapter one. It's iconic and a great sampler for people to listen to and offer feedback.

I would love to hear everyone's feedback on this.

Edit 2: They called me in last minute today (11-7) to do an 8 am shift.
Edit - I absolutely didnβt not expect to wake up to such a wave of responses- thank you all so much for all the advice. Iβve had other issues with a few of my managers before but nothing related to this , the last big one was them asking me to provide drs notes for my βclaimsβ of not being able to stand or walk for extended periods of time (I have some chronic back pain issues) and my whole Iβm not really supposed to be in the sun thing ( I have albinism) . I did what they asked and they responded by making me be a cart attendant forcing me to do the very things Iβm not supposed to for a week straight after I was like I canβt be out here- thatβs the first time my hours were cut but I stupidly didnβt make the connection until now. My job does have a union and idk about any probational periods but Iβve been paying union dues since my first check like literally the $11 check I got from going to orientation $8 of it went to the union. Also Iβm in Ohio if that matters. Iβve never had a union job before so Iβm not sure how it all works.
So I work at a grocery store and Iβve only been there for a month and have switched positions a few times but as of right now Iβm doing greeting / sanitation station (handing out masks , sanitizer etc) . Around 5pm yesterday I was you know- doing my job and this woman comes in with her son who looked to be maybe 7-9 years old. I say hello give them the whole Welcome to _________ pitch and everything is fine until the kid looks up from the iPad heβs holding. Kid looks me dead in my eyes and immediately loses it. Throws himself on the ground kicking screaming all the good stuff. The lady immediately snaps at me demanding to know what I did to her son. I obviously very confused said βnothing?!β. The kid is still on the ground losing it then proceeds to start repeatedly screaming βeyesβ and calling me a monster. The woman looks at my eyes and a look of absolutely disgust is now on her face. (I have nystagmus and astigmatism) . By this time my manager is understandably coming running over to see what all the commotion is and when he gets there and confirms himself to be my manager she lays into him . βWhy would you have this freak up front like this?! If youβre going to hire people like that at least keep them where no one can see them.β My manager - now also very confused asks her what I did wrong and she replies βher gross eyes made my son cry.β
... keep reading on reddit β‘Teachers for the Visually Impaired - Do you need a masters or a COMS to be able to easily find a job in Texas, or is just the certificate enough? Do you have any recommendations?
I want my friend to be able to play Stellaris with me but he's visually impaired and uses a magnifier. The way the menus come up when you hover over something isn't compatible with magnifiers because it goes away once you try to hover over them. Is there any accessibility feature in stellaris that we're missing? If not, is there mods that help with this?
TVI - If you're going for the TVI (teachers for the visually impaired) certification, is it worth it to also get the master's degree? Or the COMS certification? Is the pay increase worth the extra effort? Would it be wiser to work towards a master's in SLP or something, financially-speaking?
My eyes are really bad without my special contacts on due to a rare degenerative condition and I've been unable to wear them lately. I've been wearing my glasses. So I really appreciate the text size options. However, I think some more refined options would be very helpful. I'll try to break it down for any UI developer maybe if they see this as to what I've been having issues with and probably others with eye conditions that aren't so simple.
Right now the text size increases everything. Which is good, not enough games even have that setting that I've seen, but personally I don't need the kill feed to be larger particularly. It becomes a bit too large on the next setting up. In fact the settings themselves are rather broad. Large might be too large for somethings and still too small for others. I think a more detailed text size slider would be helpful for different elements of the UI.
Kill feed: 1-200 (Bold On/Off) - Player names: 1-200 (Bold On/Off) - Weapon and Power up names: 1-200 (Bold On/Off) - Menu UI: 1-200 (Bold On/Off)
The biggest issue I have is reading what power weapons are on the field. Especially on BtB maps.
Something like that. What is great about Halo Infinite is how the games visibility is. I've never had an issue seeing an enemy or telling the difference between friend and foe. I haven't been able to say that about a AAA shooter in quite sometime. It's really great to finally be able to play a game against people and not get a moment where I think "Man, I didn't even see that guy. Could someone else have"
So great work on that. I don't think there's an argument to made that increasing or decreasing certain UI elements will affect people in a way that forms some new meta UI settings. Because the visibility is already very good.
