[Anime Discussion] I Want To Eat Your Pancreas

I found one of my new favorite animes.

When people said โ€œYouโ€™re going to cry watching this movieโ€, my initial thoughts were โ€œpfft yea right!โ€

Yeaโ€ฆ. I definitely criedโ€ฆ haha. Seriously, this movie hurt like hell and I loved every moment of it. I paid $50 for the Blueray of this one and honestly that was the best $50 I ever spent. I would have paid double to experience that again.

The movie isnโ€™t predictable, the visuals are stunning, the story is realistic, the characters are lovable, the soundtrack is beautiful, and there is absolutely no filler or slow-feeling moments. It flows naturally and the message behind it is powerful. There isnโ€™t a single bad thing I could say about this one.

As always, for those whoโ€™ve watched it, Iโ€™d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!

Heard of this movie through Giggukโ€™s video and decided to watch it to see if it was as good as he hyped it up to be. He was correct! This movie is so good. It came out about a year ago and it shouldโ€™ve got the recognition that A Silent Voice or Your Name got. So please do yourself a favor and watch this!

Thoughts on I Want to Eat Your Pancreas?

So earlier, I have just finished watching the movie. Damn, even thought you expect the ending, it still sad and depressing when it got to the point. Even more depressing is the cause of her death is not because of her illness, but because of a fucking criminal. So it made the "coffee scene" more sad and depressing. How would you feel, if you're expecting to see a friend, who is terminally ill and did not show up and have not replied to your message? Thus, knowing that she died on national television? I would be depressed as fuck and would not likely to get over with it. Imagine not saying goodbye to that friend who changed and brings out growth that you needed. :(

Anyways, I'd like you guys to hear me out and answer some of my questions or clarifications :)

How do you interpret the meaning of "I Want to Eat Your Pancreas"?
How does Haruki and Sakura interpret that phrase? (Both of them stated that, right? Haruki texted it to her, meanwhile Sakura wrote it in her diary?)
What made this movie beautiful?
What part did you cry?
What are some parallels and foreshadowing in the film? (I'm really dumbfounded here)
Lastly, what's the connection of The Little Prince to the two of them?

Thank you guys for hearing me out! :)

These two are really opposites, that I really brings the best out of them. <3

A manga that reminds me of I Want To Eat Your Pancreas

I just started a new manga and the very first scene made me say "oh no...".

It's called "Toki Doki" and the first scene shows the funeral of a girl who dies, and then from what I've read so far it goes through her finding happiness before the inevitable.

It's just a oneshot so it shouldn't take too long to read. Just though I'd put this here for anyone interested.

I Want To Eat Your Pancreas is a masterpiece in all of it.

I know I am late to this but only recently I get to watch all of I Want To Eat Your Pancreas movie. Apparently the live action came first than the anime movie. I watched both and I found that both of them is as beautiful like the other one. The live action is the best of the adaptation as I did a little research and found out that only in the recent years people actually can live without pancreas. So the year in the live action is in 2005. A little too early.

The anime in the other hand doesn't have a date but is still as beautiful as it can be. The end credits is what makes it satisfying that the MC finally changed in a shorter period of time while in the live action, it took 12 years. Kind of too long but they ended it with a little treasure hunt for the letter Sakura left behind is what makes it more satisfying. I can't give a answer which is better because they nailed it in both movies. Again, I didn't read the manga or novel. But from what I heard, it's as beautiful as the movies.

This makes me wonder if I Want To Eat Your Pancreas is the only masterpiece that nailed it on all aspect. From novel to manga. From manga to live action and from live action to anime. I want to know what you guys think about it.

U.S showing of "I want to eat your Pancreas" Interview at the beginning diminished viewing experience?

Did anyone else feel that it was something that should have happened at the end of the movie? I personally feel it kinda diminished some of the movie since they talked about the characters, scenes, and plot before we even saw it. I read the manga so I knew what was going to happen but I went with people who knew nothing of the show and wanted to go into it blind but the interview kinda ruined it for them. What did you guys think about it?

[HIRING] Seeking artist that can make design with art style similar to I Want To Eat Your Pancreas anime artwork.

I run a pin page on instagram and sell anime enamel pins. I'm looking to have a pin design inspired by the anime movie I Want To Eat Your Pancreas. The movie was very emotional so I'm hoping that the pin design can convey the same emotion that the movie did. I have an idea on what I would like in the design but I'm open to some interpretation as well.

In order to bring this design to life, I'm looking to commission someone who has a similar art style or can replicate the art style of the anime. If you've never made a design for an enamel pin, that's okay! I can explain how enamel pin designs work!

The deadline for the artwork would be by the beginning of April as I'm planning to launch a pin series in April which this design will be a part of. More specific info will be given once I've chosen an artist.

For payment, I use PayPal and can send in any currency that you take but my budget is at most $150 USD.

Oh man. I loved that movie so much. Are there any others that give off the same vibe? (It doesnโ€™t HAVE to be sad). And if it helps, I donโ€™t need your name, 5 centimeters per second, and your lie in April. I donโ€™t know but the feeling that I got DURING my watch of this movie was different. It probably resonated most with me during the overnight trip. Maybe bunny girl senpai esque, I really dunno. Any recommendations based on that? This is rlly specific sorry.

Finally saw the film today! Part of my slice of life tour with YLIA, I want to eat your pancreas and a silent voice. Absolute masterpiece, Iโ€™m speechless

So, like I said, Iโ€™ve been doing an emotional slice of life tour all Easter weekend and at this point Iโ€™m lowkey dehydrated with no more tears left. This film wasnโ€™t quite as sad as the aforementioned ones, and I still think I prefer A Silent voice, but it still tugged right on the heartstrings. This is easily one of the freshest films Iโ€™ve seen in a very long time. The animation and art style might be the greatest Iโ€™ve ever seen, the soundtrack is heavenly, the writing is awesome, pacing is awesome, it just was a bloody good ride and I enjoyed every second of it

My only complaint is I wish I couldโ€™ve got a bit more romance out of it, maybe a kiss at the end, similar complaint I had with a silent voice. Idk if they flush it out more in the LN or if it stays basically the same, but Iโ€™ve ordered it from amazon and itโ€™ll be here tomorrow so Iโ€™m excited to get that. Thank you to the people from the various subs Iโ€™ve visited lately who suggested I check this out, itโ€™s caused me a bit of headache as Iโ€™ll have to reorder my top 5 anime on MAL now but itโ€™s a good problem to have! 10/10

Have the blu ray coming later on this week and I canโ€™t wait to rewatch it again

On to Garden of words, Clannad and Anohabara now

Edit: garden of words finished

If you like anime that make you cry, this anime is probably just as good for doing so like a certain Violet Evergarden episode. So Iโ€™ve just binged this film, YLIA and I want to eat your pancreas in less than 24 hours, Iโ€™ve run out of tears. Why do I do this to myself?!

Iโ€™m currently on a binge of slice of life anime films that Iโ€™ve wanted to watch for some time. Ive seen Your Lie in April, I want to eat your pancreas, A silent voice and now Iโ€™m on to your name, garden of words and anohana. Of the ones Iโ€™ve seen, this was by far my favourite and in my opinion the best. Probably because of how realistic it is. From the very beginning, the opening 10 minutes I knew Iโ€™d be into this film in a way that I wasnโ€™t with the others.

I was gripped by how horrible Ishida treated Shouko and at some points I legit had to pause the film because I was so angry at how such a kind and sweet girl was being treated, all because she was different. And then the fact that despite being the one being bullied, she still apologised to ishida and even cleaned his desk, yet he was still being a cunt to her. โ€œIโ€™m trying my bestโ€ when they were in the classroom, legit made me cry

That Ueno chick is a straight cunt and Kawai is the snakeish type you want to avoid in life, had to pause the film during a lot of their scenes too.

I loved the storytelling and the way the film laid out the narrative, it felt like a genuine film, as opposed to an anime film if that makes sense, YLIA had a lot of over the top melodramatic animation and scenes whereas this felt like I was just watching a regular film in anime form

I do wish we couldโ€™ve got to see a romance between Ishida and Shouko develop more after the I love you confession, but who knows, maybe that leaves the door open for more Light novels/another film. Great film, 10/10 on MAL and in my top 5 anime

Just finished watching this wonderful movie at late night (3am). Though I wouldn't say this was any best show of it's genre. As I have watched quite share of similiar shows but it did touched my heart. I could relate a lot with the MC. Sadly the only thing missing is that fateful encounter of my life. Maybe I already missed it or don't deserve at all,not that it matters now. It made me cry a lot after finishing and thinking back what I have been doing with my life recently. Hopefully it will give me tiny bit of inspiration to start a fresh day tomorrow. Though I don't expect too much but I will try to do my best.

Any significance behind MC's name in I want to eat your pancreas?

So I recently finished reading the novel (light novel?) I Want To Eat Your Pancreas and at the end they reveal that mc's name is Shiga Haruka which the MC refers to be the sane name as 2 authors , but doesn't know which one they refer to when they say he has a name similar to an author. Throughout the book, Shiga's name is covered up in every sense with phrases like (cruel classmate) or (getting along with person) normally setting the mood for how the other person feels about MC, but not one do they show his name until this big reveal at the end when Sakura's asks for his full name. Does this have any particular meaning in the story, and is there particularly anything special about his name Shiga Haruka. I am not sure whether they mention his true name in any of the 2 movie attacks adaptions (live or anime) but online they refer the name and role of MC in the movie by the name of "Me" since in every aspect the story tries to avoid MCs name for some reason but doesn't come up with his true name for some reason

Ps: apolgies for messy paragraph

TL;DR - Is there any special reason why they hide MCs name in the story to soon have a big reveal later?

I want to eat your pancreas question

So I know I'm kind of late, I didn't even realize the movie came out, sorry I'm dumb. Me and my sister just watched it and I have a few questions. So did Haruki end up dating the best friend? It would be a nice way to see the progression, but the wording of the movie kind of confused me. My major question is what the hell was the point of the blond guy offering Haruki gum? Like, he just popped up randomly in the movie and for some reason, his piece of gum made it into the ending scene like it had played some major role. The only thing I can think of is that the gum dude was the first person Haruki opened up to besides Sakura? If anyone is still up to discuss this, please help.

"I want to eat your pancreas" - How this film affected me and my life.

"This isn't a story about dying; it's one about finding out what it means to be living". This is what the YouTuber Gigguk said in his recent video about "I want to eat your pancreas". I came to the same conclusion as Gigguk did, stated in the quote.

I did reach it through a different route than him though, in the sense that what hit me in this film is different from what hit him. Though different aspects of the story hit us and impacted us differently we reached the same conclusion of what the story was trying to say. Finding out what it means to be living, how important the time you have really is and how you use it cause you never know how long you have.

You don't know how, when or where it'll end and a proper farewell is far from guaranteed. Which just makes it all the more important to value the time we've got and use it in a way we won't regret, with the people we hold dear.

Personally this film is my favourite piece of media ever and it hit me multiple times and in multiple different ways, and it all resonated with me, my experiences and thoughts, which is why I value it so highly. It made me think about stuff that isn't easy to think about.

In the end it lead me to value the time we have, and the time other people have which we can spend with them a lot more. That in turn has affected how I think about life, the actions I take, and how I handle the connections I have in life.

Whether it's doing something you'd prefer not to in order to spend time with loved ones or going out of your way to repair, maintain or establish new connections, this film has impacted me in ways like that and more. Watching that film on a whim is one of the best and most impactful small choices I've made in life. That's some of the reasons why I love this film and in turn Gigguk's video.

It IMO perfectly summarised the film and what it's about without spoiling the experience. And the clips from the film combined with his personal feelings poured into this video and so on put me in tears.

So therefore I'd like to say: Watch Gigguk's video and watch this film, not necessarily in that order. And if you do, I surely hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did and that it'll impact you in positive ways as well, regardless of what you exactly take away from it and how it got you to that point.

This film is very important to me and has lead me to make choices in life that have made me happier and lead me to value life and connections more than ever, and it may do the same to yo

Honestly I was loving the book and was enjoying reading it, until she died, then my happiness was turned into sadness. If I can be honest, this is the second saddest I have ever been in my life. I haven't cried in years, but this book broke me. Just how it's set up with the main characters name never being said until he goes to her house after her death, that made me love the book so much more. I want to eat your pancreas question (spoilers)

What did you guys think about the way Sakura died by a random stabbing? Do you think it was completely random and out of the blue that someone with a disease already would get stabbed the day/moment she got out of the hospital? I found it odd and unrealistic since this killer didn't even have a gripe with Sakura and the thing just felt like it happened to add shock value. If it weren't for that, I think the movie would've been much better.

USA Movie Goer Warning (I Want To Eat Your Pancreas)

With screenings happening all across the states yesterday (Feb 7) and upcoming on the 10th I wanted put out a bit of a warning and a recommendation. No spoilers.

  1. SKIP THE FOREWORD! - The staff have some stuff to say before the movie begins and they get crazy with spoilers. Both about tone and specifics in the film. Again I'll repeat: DO NOT WATCH THE PRE MOVIE STAFF VIDEO IF YOU CARE AT ALL ABOUT SPOILERS!

  2. WATCH PAST THE END CREDITS! - Just trust me. It's really, really, REALLY important that you stay until after the credits. Half of the crowd got up and left at the screening I went to and it may as well be an entirely different film for them.

The film was great, but those two things will greatly increase your enjoyment of the film. Hope you guys enjoy the film as much as I did!

Just wanted to give you all the heads up. :)
