Who here has been prescribed Hyoscyamine (Anaspaz, Cystospaz, Donnamar, Levsin) for their GI issues? What was your dose and how did it effect your condition? I’ve recently been prescribed this and am curious.

info on hyoscyamine sulfate and RC’s

New to RC’s and a good homie who put on saw that this was the medication I was on. Ive tried acid and dmt both once and wondering if this medication has any psycho active effects or if it’s bad to mix with these chems. I had a pretty intense trip off of 100ug of LSD + 50ug of ALD52 the other day. Told me i had a hard chem to come across and in high dosages you could see shadow figures. I don’t doubt him, but what’s your input on this medication. I take this because I box and get bad stomach cramps from jump roping or eating before exercising etc.

Still struggling over here, prescribed hyoscyamine, but not sure about a couple of things...

So I'm still over here dealing with what they think is post-antibiotic IBS.

Most mornings I have a formed stool, but it's still very small caliber and it's soft/fluffy, disintegrates to nothing as soon as the flush starts. Sometimes it's more loose than that, like true diarrhea, but only intermittently.

Saw a new GI today who prescribed me hyoscyamine and suggested adding psyllium (1 T/day).

My concerns about the hyoscyamine are that it looks like it can cause constipation (DO NOT WANT), it primarily helps with pain (which I do not have much of) and it's got some potentially unpleasant side effects (dry mouth--which I already have from another medication, urinary retention, bloating, and tiredness).

I guess I'm going to try it, but I'm not sure this seems like the right med for me? Open to any thoughts/experiences with this med. Thanks everyone.

Hyoscyamine (or Levsin) reviews?

Has anyone with IBS-C had success with Hyoscyamine?

If curious, my background:

I have IBS-C and have been struggling with this for a decade now. I have a great diet and health regime but my body refuses to have an urge to go. I have been using two scoops of Miralax every night for the past couple of years and it really helps. Although it works for me, I don't want to only rely on Miralax for the rest of my life. So hey why not try another drug to fix an issue!

Any feedback or comments would greatly be appreciated.

Hyoscyamine and chest pains

I (27M) have had acid reflux for years, and about two years ago I got my first bout of severe chest pains. Two ER visits, two rounds of ekg’s, two gallbladder tests (ultrasound and the other one), endoscopy, stress test/imaging on my heart and basically all my old GI doc said was I have esophageal spasms and acid reflux. Heart was ruled to be fine. Gallbladder and it’s functions fine. No damage or anything with the esophagus/stomach. I’ve been taking prescription PPI’s for probably 2 years now, over the counter before that, and for the past couple years mixing in Pepcid here and there when I feel my acid reflux flare up, and I have hyoscyamine for the chest pains. I don’t get chest pains super often, maybe once every 1-3 months but I do have discomfort fairly often and I use the hyoscyamine to try and keep it from turning into a full blown crippling chest pain attack. I moved to a new state but I was pretty much done with my last GI with no follow ups scheduled and just a prescription I can keep refilling.

I’m thinking about seeing another GI in my new state to get a second opinion because the last guy was an older gentleman and just didn’t see an issue with taking PPI’s forever, and after reading around it doesn’t seem like it’s the best option

For those who take hyoscyamine for spasms/chest pain, do they always work for you? Night before last I had a bout of really bad chest pains, and even though I stuck two of those pills under my tongue they didn’t do much, if anything. I swear they work sometimes but maybe I have to catch it early enough? I can usually feel some discomfort some time before I actually get those crippling pains, so I’ll usually take some preemptively to not have to live through any more pains than I have to. It seems like that works, mixed with trying to stay sitting up or standing and breathing.

Also, for those who get those chest pains, how do you deal with the anxiety? Even though I’m pretty active, supposedly have a clean bill of health on my heart, and from blood work I get done every year for insurance know that other than a slightly elevated bad cholesterol level and being slightly overweight I’m at a pretty good standing overall, I still get freaked out every time the chest pains hit. I can’t stand listening to medical stories or reading about people getting diagnosed with diseases or cancer or whatever because it makes me feel so uneasy and freaked out.

Kind of a rant, but just looking for some validation on how I feel a

Hyoscyamine is a medication I never knew existed. NEVER going without it now.

I am 30+ years old and have had serious IBS-D for what feels like my entire life, and it’s only gotten worse as I’ve gotten older. Blacking out, apparently turning blue (lol) at the worst of some of the episodes.

Every single time I’ve gone to my doctors, every single time I’ve wound up in the ER, every single time I’ve EVER looked for something to deal with this ungodly pain, I have never found or been given answers. Only β€œit’s just IBS, take some Imodium or pepto bismol & you’ll be fine!” πŸ€ͺ I did a telehealth appt Friday to get my regular anxiety meds renewed. This total stranger of a doctor asked me what felt like just a few extra questions outside of info related to the prescription renewal and if it’s been helping or not. And she up and suggested to me to β€œtry this medication” when I had my next flare up and see if it helped. Hyoscyamine. Never heard of it but sure! Anything to make this be less like torture. The pharmacy attendant didn’t even know how to say the name.

So I took one a few hours ago, when I felt my stomach start that obnoxious cramping that always starts first. Teeny little thing that you let dissolve under your tongue. I think within maybe 30 minutes, MAX? It felt like those muscles relaxed almost completely. I can tell my stomach is still not happy, but that otherworldly pain is nearly nonexistent right now. It feels like just the tiniest wisp of a stomachache. I could run miles right now and my stomach wouldn’t feel like it was trying to murder me.

Where the heck has this medication been all my life, and why THE HELL have doctors over all these years not even mentioned it?!! ER doctors especially, what the ever loving F?! Is this medication super new? Because you can bet next time I go back to my regular doctor, I’ll be ranting and raving about hyoscyamine and telling them they need to start prescribing it if they don’t. I’m both so, so relieved and overjoyed that the pain during this flareup might as well be GONE, and absolutely, blindingly furious no one has EVER suggested or even thought to try prescribing it for me before.

This is where things started getting dangerous as if being in the water without a life jacket on a bliss delirium wasn't already stupid enough I thought man I want to see some fireworks went into my house and grabbed a few mortars that I saved from 4th of July and walked maybe a mile from my house on the edge of the lake lighting the tube in my hand and just pointing it in the air probably waking up everyone in the neighborhood I feel super bad about that btw... New uro, new med: hyoscyamine

I used to take low-dose hydroxyzine and amitriptyline for symptoms, and it was very effective. I was mostly β€œin remission” for a long time, most of the time off all meds, but after a recent UTI I’ve been flared up. My new uro is very into pelvic floor dysfunction as a cause of IC. I’ve done physical therapy before for a hypertonic pelvic floor, but I didn’t really give it a fair shake. I’m starting physical therapy with a hospital-affiliated therapist soon, but the uro also gave me hyoscyamine to try for pain. My main symptom is urethral burning, and she thinks it’s nerve related, stemming from this constant pelvic floor over-engagement, I guess. Has anyone used it? I’m terrified of urinary retention because it happened to me once while I was trialing Zoloft, and I read that can be a side effect.

Datura Vape Juice - Atropine, Scopolamine, and Hyoscyamine Aerosol solution.(WARNING: I DO NOT ADVISE DOING THIS!)

I was recently researching the bronchodilator properties of the alkaloids contained in Datura Stramonium. In the past cigarettes rolled with Datura where used in cases of asthma and bronchitis. Even in modern medicine atropine sulfate has been used as a bronchodilator and to dry up mucus in the upper respiratory tract. Well I got the bright(or crazy) idea to make a vegetable glycerin tincture using Datura Stramonium seeds. I finely ground up 60 Datura seeds. I then placed those seeds in 1ml of Pure USP vegetable glycerin. I am now steeping said seeds in the VG to create a crude tincture. I plan on straining and placing this tincture in a Sub OHM tank and testing out the effects. I understand the great toxicity of Datura as I have used it many times in the past. Not to trip out, but to clear out my nose or reduce eye redness. I’m aware of the varying alkaloid content and exercise great caution when using this powerful herb. My hope is to get a vapeable solution that contains Atropine, Scopolamine, and Hyoscyamine, but without enough to cause any deliriant effects. I am going to slowly test the waters and take a drag and wait around 30 minutes after each drag. I will know it is working when I feel dry mouth coming on and will be regularly checking my pupils for any dilation before and after each dose. As of now the VG has changed to a green color and smells very much like Datura Stramonium seeds. I plan on letting it steep for a few more days whilst periodically heating up the solution and mixing it a few times a day.

Hyoscyamine (Levsin/SL) For butt lightning

I am having excision surgery in January and my surgeon sent me to a GI specialist because she suspects she will find bowel involvement and wants me to have a relationship with a GI.

I met with the GI specialist on Friday and told him about the β€œbutt lightning” I experience. He prescribed a medication called hyoscyamine (brand name is Levsin/SL) which is an antispasmodic. I let it dissolve under my tongue and in about 20 minutes it stops all the muscle spasms in my rectum. I got my period today and tried it out... IT WORKED. The doctor said it might make me a little drowsy but I didn’t notice any drowsiness. No other side effects that I’ve noticed either.

I still had a little bit of pain during my bowel movement but nothing like what I’m used to (normally I’m afraid I’ll pass out from pain on the toilet, and I can’t sit normally for HOURS after). I didn’t know this type of medication existed and I’m a little upset it took me 20 years of horrible period poops to find out. Posting here in case the info helps anyone else.

I told the new gastro my entire year long battle. After many questions the gastro finally came to the conclusion that it wasn’t an ulcer and possibly not even gastritis but stomach spasms from pro longed stress. The gastro put me on hyoscyamine for 3 times a day ( 30 minutes before each meal) for a month and I have seen a vast improvement, the burning gnawing pain hasn’t occurred in 3 days. I have tested out trigger foods and caffeinated drinks and still have yet to feel pain. Has anybody been prescribed this?
