Some questions regarding aquatic life near hydrothermal vents

Good day everyone.

I recently got interested in the marine life that thrives near the hydrothermal vents, and got really curious whether they would keep thriving in the event of a nuclear winter?

Let's say, a super-volcanic eruption caused black clouds to engulf the Earth for a better part of the decade, would the creatures dwelling around said geysers be unaffected by the lack of sunlight?

Also, if at all, could any of them be edible to humans?

For any fans of Nick Lane and/or the alkaline hydrothermal vent hypothesis of abiogenesis

I thought I'd look if there are any recent videos of his talks on Youtube as I do periodically, and found this one from May that includes some new material compared to older talks (and his books):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gaXhkZoOOYc

I haven't finished yet but he's discussing the experimental setup they have around the 30mn mark, and there's apparently been some nice progress in their results. So that's exciting!
