Malaria - Sickle cell anemia - Host-Parasite coevolution. Help request

Hey, everyone. I am a biology student and I am struggling with something I have to present soon.

I am doing a presentation which features the following topics:

  1. Malaria
  2. Sickle cell anemia
  3. The correlation between 1. and 2.
  4. Evolutionary aspect:
    1. Balanced polymorphism
    2. Stabilizing selection
    3. Host-Parasite coevolution

My group has 3 other members, and I ended up being in charge of topic 4.3. However, I can't seem to find an article that explains it properly and I always end up addressing all other topics, barely developing my own - Host-Parasite coevolution. I just wrote of lines about how this is antagonistic coevolution, considering each evolutionary change in each species decreases the fitness of the other species - but that's about it - I actually feel pretty dumb - I simply can't grasp what I am supposed to do with this topic - it seems too restrictive. It should be around 4 slides worth of information, so I think I just need a tiny bit of help and it will be easier once I get some advice.

Any tips? Thank you!

ELI5: Why arent there any viruses / Infectious Diseases /parasites that provide a net positive efect to its host?

Hello there! I do not wish to fall into semantics but just trying to ilustrate my question to the best of my ability. Also, sorry the silly question but its almost impossible to google something like this in current corona scenario.

Infectious pathogens are, as far as I understand, among the strongest selective forces that act on humans or animals. New disease, some survive, some dont.

My question is... why isnt there(as far as I know) a super "bug" that actually helps its host to become faster/better/stronger and increase its chances of survival. Lets just call it a doping virus for the fun of it. Wouldnt making the host better than the rest ensure its survival / reproduction in the same way that killing half of the population would?

The answers do not need to be limited to humans only. A super yield increasing bacteria would be as intresting.

Stack Physical Silver If You Understand That All Parasites (If Not Removed) Eventually Kill Their Host.

All nations have an economy.

And, all nations currently (only 'currently' I hasten to add) have a government.

An economy that is the host.

And a government that is a parasite.

Now, to fully understand why all governments require a host economy in order to continue to exist.

You have to first understand that all governments are in fact entirely 'non productive' in an economic sense.

And by that I mean. All governments do not produce a single item that is then sold to make a profit of any sort.

NOT A SINGLE THING.

So of course, all governments need to steal all of the wealth that they need in order to continue survive from their host economies.

Something that they do by levying taxes of every sort imaginable.

Now, it stands to reason that the bigger a government becomes. The bigger a drain IT will in turn become on IT's host nations precious economic resources (read 'profits').

So, denying those wealth producing businesses within IT's host economy the ability to reinvest their profits into newer more efficient machinery, or extra labour.

Not to mention their ability to compete on price with their foreign competitors.

With those nations that have far less bloated/demanding governments.

Now, in the case of The United Kingdom where I live.

When we were the global economic powerhouse, and we controlled around a third of global trade.

Less than 4000 people worked for the UK government.

Now compare that to the over 285,000 who make up the UK government today

All with their large salaries and gold plated pensions.

And then you will understand why our manufacturing base here in the UK has been nothing short of decimated.

Along with why we are now 'so massively in debt' it is nothing short of incredible.

The truth is, we now have an entirely upside down economy.

A 'false economy' as it were.

An economy that needs a massive amount of borrowing, and a massive amount of money printing in order to help to balance the books.

Now, there is one good thing that will eventually come out of this terrible mess.

And that one good thing, is that through our governments financial ineptitude and gross mismanagement of our national economy.

Our government here in the UK will soon be forced to have to declare bankruptcy.

As yes, by having killed IT's host economy through massive over taxation, our government will in turn have also killed IT-self.

Stone dead!

And 'good riddance' I say.

Best wishes.

Andrew.

Late 80s/early 90s US horror movie involving alien parasites which change host via the hosts kissing

The title pretty much explains the premise; I can't remember if this is the central theme to the movie, but I specifically recall a scene set in a large nightclub or warehouse party where the parasites are spreading via people French kissing. They are sizeable organisms, not bacteria or tiny little things. Think the stomach buster in Alien.

For some reason, I vaguely recall that the last part of the movie title is 'ables', but I might be misremembering that.

Anyone?

How do zombie parasites work? How do the parisitic organisms know to avoid the important internal organs of the host? How do the virus’ or parasite control the host to do things the host organism should never do ?

How & when did this evolutionary process come about ?

When some type of wasp injects multiple eggs into a specific Caterpillar, some virus make the caterpillar consume much more food than it usually would. And the virus prevents the caterpillar from turning into an adult HOW DOES HYPERPARSATOIDISM WORK? So above, after the wasp eat their way out from the caterpillar, they makes a cocoon. Then a doffeeent wasp injects eggs into the wasps that just came out of the caterpillar.

How does the new wasp know that this just happened? Does the new wasp detect some pheromone in the air?

Are there animals that are in an evolutionary race to stop the other?
