I'm doing my HSC in Australia and for a History Major Work, I'm asking and answering the question

And I'm looking for perspectives from all generations of Vietnamese, People who lived through the war, fled it, or have heard of it through school, or parents etc. I'd love to here your perspectives and on the American involvement in the war.
Thanks a lot

Hi all, I'm a college student in my senior year at SFSU. This semester, I'm taking an Asian American Studies course that goes over the history of Vietnamese Americans in the United States. The final project for this class is to do an oral history project with a Vietnamese American narrator giving their perspective on life as a person of Vietnamese descent in America. More specifically, my topic is on the Vietnamese American community here in San Jose, focusing on discrimination that the individual may have experienced and how it has changed over the years, for better or for worse.
The project will be a video, however you do not need to include your face or real name. In the case that you do not want to be on video, I will be using animations/motion graphics that work with the topic. The interview will be conducted over Zoom, and I will work around your schedule. The project is due in two months. What I'm looking for in a narrator is someone who has lived in San Jose for the majority of his/her life and have experiences that they are willing to share. For more information or if anyone is willing to volunteer or knows someone to participate in my project, please DM me. I can't pay much, but I can buy you lunch or provide graphic design services (I currently work as a graphic designer).
Vietnamese guerillas were originally poor farmers living in villages. They were no more at home in the jungle than the Americans were and despite what Hollywood movies had you believe, they were certainly not Tarzans.
They also suffered from leeches like everybody else and they couldn’t identify too many blood-sucking insects either. In any case, knowing the name of the insects did little good to remedy their bites. They were also less well-prepared and less well-equipped. While American soldiers had solid army boots, Vietnamese guerillas had to make do with sandals made from old tires, making them vulnerable to venomous snake bites.
Once bitten by snakes or wounded in combat, American soldiers could be medevaced in minutes whereas the guerillas had no helicopters whatsoever. The guerillas also lacked medical facilities, supplies and personnel, therefore an otherwise non-fatal wound/disease would most certainly result in a lingering painful death. Logistical difficulties also meant the guerillas were constantly hungry. Their food often consisted of nothing more than a bowl of rice with salt and chili. Many had to resort to hunting wild animals, sometimes even tigers and elephants for food; but they needed to be extremely careful since the sound of gunshots often attract airstrikes.
Fire and smoke could also be detected by reconnaissance aircraft, therefore preparing hot, cooked meals in the jungle required many hours of back-breaking labor to dig an elaborate tunnel system to conceal the fire and diffuse the smoke.
A North Vietnamese soldier had to travel on foot for 3 to 6 months through the jungle to reach the battlefield in South Vietnam. Many died of various combat and non-combat causes along the way. The most common cause of all was malaria. Any mosquito could be a carrier and Vietnam had an excess of them. More communist fighters died of malaria than of all kind of air strikes combined.
One North Vietnamese who had to march hundreds of miles with a heavy rucksack wrote: “My back hurt the entire last night. Couldn’t sleep nor think clearly. Impossible to lie on my back and torturous to lie on my side. Had to rock the hammock frequently to ease the pain. Haven’t had a bath since Post 1. Have lost my appetite for several days now, never thought it could take so much effort to eat …”
…………… And these are less than half of what the guerillas had to suffer. I haven’t even started about life in the claustrophobic underground tunnels or the de
