A list of puns related to "HMS Venerable (1899)"
First up, I love FL and FBG. Amazing game, amazing team. I'm just a little disappointed about this small thing. (TL;DR at bottom.)
So, I recently contacted them about the modern dates in the journal and whether it's a bug that would be fixed, as seeing modern dates breaks the immersion a bit, and the reply I got was:
> This isn't a bug, I'm afraid - we recently updated the Journal to show modern dates so that it's easier to navigate, and to save players in the future from searching through years and years of echoes labelled 1899.
I guess I have some... feelings about this, and I wondered what you guys thought.
For me, I'm a little sad that the modern dates are staying. Ironically, by keeping us in 1899 so that we stay in the Victorian era, we're now reminded every time we look at a journal that we're not.
I don't use journals a whole lot, so it's not the end of the world for me, but the second part is also a bit of a bummer.
"Years and years" of 1899 echoes implies that we really are staying in 1899 for the foreseeable future. This isn't just confusing and annoying in-game (which is par for the course, and usually a good thing), but also IRL too. How DO you actually clarify which 1899 something (like a wedding in-game) happened in? In character, you can't really say "we married in the 1899 that's actually 2022". If the game itself annotated them (1899a, 1899b, etc or something) it would be easier. But since they're not doing that in the journals, I guess that's not a thing.
I know I'm going to get very confused IRL. I'm one of those obsessive people who roleplays and makes FL art/writing outside of the game, and it's all meticulously dated so I know when it happened in the timeline of all the other things that have happened. I'll probably wind up making some sort of annotation system of my own, but it would be less confusing if there was a universal one (and then we could have non-modern dates back in the journal maybe? I know, I know... it just really throws me to see '2022' there when I'm trying to escape 2022, heh).
Any thoughts? Maybe it's not a big deal to you guys, or maybe you have other suggestions? Sorry for the text wall, I am so bad at being concise, lol.
TL;DR: I'm a little upset that the journals are in modern dates now, but also a little upset about how "1899 FOREVER" is going to affect... well, a lot of things. I wish there was at least a marker for each 'new' 1899.
Just came across this trailer on Lifehacker, they had this to say about it:
"The great science fiction/horror series Dark is done, but creators Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar will return with something newer (and maybe weirder) later this year. This is the story of a group of immigrants on a ship from London to New York who come across another migrant ship...with nightmarish consequences. If itβs anything like their previous series, any synopsis is just the tip of the iceberg.
Where to watch: Netflix"
Anyone heard more about this show?
Seriously, those outsiders drove up property rates and brought crime and homelessness.
