A list of puns related to "HMS Surprise (1796)"
I'm a member of the San Diego Maritime Museum (basically an annual passholder), and got this in the mail the other day. Thought I'd share it here in case anyone is interested.

Please know that I am in no way affiliated with the museum, other than enjoying going and visiting the ships.
I know in Rio she is painted black and white and gets her peculiar masts. But in Geoff Huntโs picture of the fight with Marengo (and others), although she is shown with an overlarge mainmast, she is painted yellow and the other two masts have no rake. Whatโs going on? Is OโBrian using โwhiteโ to mean a very light yellow, which Hunt is darkening? And what about the rake of the mizzen and the fire?
TL;DR I want to get a GH painting of Surprise but donโt which - if any - are accurate. Also painting a miniature.
Curious. Anyone ever read any of this?
Also any of the other ships in the series? Do we know which were copper bottomed??
Please no spoilers from after Treasonโs Harbour. I want to buy a Laser DreamWorks Cyane model to make into the Joyful Surprise. What changes would I have to make? (Book version of ship.)
Does anyone know where I can find the historical (and perhaps fictional) crew list for HMS Surprise or another similarly rated British frigate?
EDIT: For anyone else looking, I found it! Check out the The frigate Surprise : the complete story of the ship made famous in the novels of Patrick O'Brian

My wife told me last night that she has a friend selling an unopened Artesania Latina HMS Surprise for 400 USD. I'm a huge fan of O'Brian's books and working on becoming a fair hand tools woodworker. But I've never so much as considered building a model before now. Have to admit I'm really intrigued, though. My questions for you:
My wife orders books for the library. HMS Surprise is the one she has to re-order because it circulates so much. That got me commenting about how that book is actually the perfect initiation into the series, as book 1 is full of jargon and book 2 goes off into the weeds (literally with a bear).
I think one should start with book 3 and the amazing rescue of the doctor- get hooked. Then go back and fill in the back story with 1 and 2.
A glass of wine with you.
I see a variety of price points for replacement screens for the SP5, from $80 to >$200. Most look like they use the same photos.
I also talked to a national repair store who tried to convince me that the quality of some of these may be crappy while their panel is superior. Although they did admit that even they don't get it sourced directly from MS as an OEM part.
My question is, is there a significant difference in replacement screen quality? Are some of them bad quality in terms of colors, brightness, etc.? Or are they all basically the same?
Nobody in the party expected me to stay when they announced Devil himself was going to be a guest. Well, George didnโt, at least. Gorgamour was too drunk to notice it, and Dordanianโs lack of physical form assured his nonchalance. Iโd had plenty of intergalactic wine myself, so the idea of meeting the Big Man seemed oddly pleasing.
I shouldโve recognized his trickery wouldnโt permit him to be on time. But I didnโt. I fidgeted ambiguously, counting the paved stones decorating the walls. You know, waiting wasnโt too bad after all, George had ornamented the portal with such grace that youโd lose track of time following its symmetry.
โYouโre the man!โ I yelled to George.
โThanks, G. Wait till you see the outfit I knotted for Lucyโs birthday.โ he said, lying on the couch. Then, before I could respond, he snatched the bong from Gorgamour whoโd fainted next to him.
โItโs his birthday?โ
โYep.โ
I panicked; how was I to justify not bringing a gift to Luciferโs birthday? Looking at my hand watch and noticing how late it was, I reckoned Devil would arrive soon. I jointed a dilemma fast as I could: either Iโd leave right then and omit such an awesome opportunity, or I had to freeze time long enough to acquire a gift.
Last time I used my Timofreezinator universe kinda got messy. You see, when time freezes for significant lengths at a time, freak accidents are apt to happen. Remember the line, โWith great power comes great responsibility?โ Well, I donโt have to think too much to remember. Uncle Ben himself lectured me about it for hours after I mixed up their timeline with ours. I wasnโt in the mood to emerge another fictional world into reality.
But, letโs be frank, I wasnโt going to quit on Lucifer either. This was my last flub, I promised my self, and, hiding in the bathroom, I carefully took the circular, watch-like, device out of my back pocket. I had to make sure no one noticed the creaking of its silver chain.
Having to act quickly, I ran for the first fit gift I could imagine: a golden condom. I know, I know, the Devil must have plenty of condoms; but imagine how many chicks that guy scores in Hell. I was sure heโd find some use for it. Besides, a golden condom is a rather amusing gift; I ought to make him my pal, after all.
When I returned with the click of Timofreezinator, I checked my hand watch, and realized I hadnโt actually frozen time, but just slowed it down. That certainly was unexpected, but I wasnโt too worried. I actually summoned
