I saw the US premiere screening last night at a local Alamo Drafthouse, alongside Return of Godzilla, as part of a double feature. I noticed something interesting throughout the film that no one else seems to have pointed out online.
Any mention of the fictional country of Saradia seems to be spelled as such with one glaring exception where a character's hardhat says "Saladia". However, that's not what I wanted to point out.
While Saradia is clearly meant to be a reference of sorts to Saudi Arabia, considering the exterior shots, the mentions of oil wealth, and so on, every single time that writing from the country is shown, it is in Persian, not Arabic. While the two languages have very similar alphabets (much like how an English person can read the words in Spanish or French writing), Persian words and spellings are used, which would be a lot more indicative that the country is based on Iran. The most immediate example I caught last night was the exterior shot of the Saradia Institute of Biotechnology. I'm willing to bet they just couldn't find any Arabs in the country and went with the closest thing lol
There's actually a second, adjacent fun thing I caught that relates to this. Any time Saradia is written down with the Persian alphabet, it is written as "Sarajia". The "d" sound isn't absent from Persian or Arabic, so this looks like a case where they translated from Japanese to Persian rather than from Japanese to English to Persian, since the Japanese text all say "Sarajia" as well.
Anyway, just wanted to impart some cool trivia about the movie here with Godzilla fans.
Quick edit: I just looked at the cast, and the actor who plays Sirhan is this guy and is from Iran. I wouldn't be surprised if he provided the translations. Dude looks like a badass martial arts expert!

When I was younger and trying to collect every Godzilla movie on DVD it (along with Megalon and 1984) were the only ones I could never get a hold of. Finally I could watch Megalon on HBO Max and I was able to buy the Blu-Ray of 1984, but Iβve never seen Biollante for sale at a reasonable price or streaming. I always hear itβs one of the best as well which makes it all the more painful. I know a lot of people on this sub love it so I was wondering where people were watching it so I can finally see the last piece of the Godzilla franchise
My son and I are casual Godzilla fans. I have been wanting to show him this particular movie. As I have only seen it once, maybe twice years ago. I remember it being pretty good and being a fan of the Heisei era I would really like to rewatch. So what the story here, why is it not on any streaming service? Not to mention the discontinued DVD.
It seems this and Godzilla 1985 are hard to track down legally. Yeah it's gonna be 85, I saw it in the drive-in when I was kid so it will always be 85 to me. So is it a rights issue or are the not as well received as the other Godzilla films? Sorry in advance if this is something that has been asked innumerable times.
These are the last two blu-ray releases I am seeking for my classic suit-actor Godzilla collection.It is just mind-blowingly confusing. Have they been out of print for so long and so hyped up recently as to create such a growth in secondary market value?

Since Paramount owns Miramax now, does it mean they hold the rights to Godzilla vs Biollante in the US?
