Okay, so I get the counterpoints that I'm sure will be made in this thread. Naomi is a far more likable athlete and better in her respective sport than Simmons and pulling out of a tournament is different than having a terrible performance. Also, Naomi outright said that what she did was due to protecting her mental health while we really don't know what's going on with Simmons and can only speculate. But I do think Gottlieb makes a good point that for all the talk about Naomi's actions making people more sensitive towards piling on athletes, the Ben Simmons hate over the past few days shows the fans and media really haven't made any progress.
To be clear, I think criticizing Simmons' bad play on the court is 100% warranted. But I think the attacks on his actual character as a person and mocking him for being "mentally weak" is the exact type of bullshit Naomi was talking about.
In the last few days I've seen Naomi Osaka's name come up a few times on r/all through the /r/tennis subreddit. In this thread it says she withdrew from something called Roland Garros? I've also seen it mentioned that she was avoiding press conferences, but I don't understand why.
I was hoping someone could fill me in what's going on? Thank you.
I'll be going to Japan as a foreign exchange student for a year from August to June. I'm debating if I wan't to live in Osaka or Chiyoda-ku in Tokyo (Chiyoda because it's just a few minutes from Shibuya Asakusa and Yanaka while being one of the less populous ward). What are some pros and cons of each city? I'm interested in Osaka because it's the food capital of Japan, and it's near Kyoto, Universal Studios, and Iga, but Tokyo has a lot of different things and is in the middle of the action. Thoughts?
I've also heard that Kansai people are less reserved. But Tokyo seems better for all around food and culture and stuff.
edit: I see a lot of people advocating for osaka, what are some reasons tokyo is better, I'm kinda biased since I've only seen the famous stuff on the internet, and I like Akihabara & Kantaro the sweet tooth salaryman.
