I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
I think every character in Toy Story franchise has a simple abstract speaking pattern
You can formulate those patterns with the help of a few concepts that I hope will be intuitive enough (so let's get some playtime!)
The post does contain spoilers of all kinds.
Every name can be a link to the trailer of Toy Story 2 or other trailers to help you navigate the post
The post is split into chapters, but they are not called "chapters" because of the stylization. There're a continuation of the post and "music version" of the post in the comments
Beware (Disclaimer): it's a highly speculative idea and I'm just your average uneducated Joe (not a linguist). May be total garbage... but it's very important for me anyway, it's not some deliberate joke.
What I'm trying to do is called Discourse analysis, it studies structures more abstract than sentences (and how utterances relate to each other). I mix it with Stylometry, i.e. I assume you can describe someone's style by the means of Discourse analysis
I will quote 19 characters: Sheriff Woody and Buzz Lightyear, Forky and Ken, Mr. Potato Head and The Prospector and Mr. Pricklepants (7), Rex and Jessie, Bo Peep and Trixie, Sarge and Slinky Dog, Gabby Gabby and Lotso (15) - plus Reptillus Maximus and Hamm and Al McWhiggin and Emperor Zurg (19)
Media I'm going to quote: Toy Story (TS 1), Toy Story 2 (TS 2), Toy Story 3 (TS 3) and Toy Story 4 (TS 4) - plus Toy Story of Terror! (TS: Terror) and Toy Story That Time Forgot (TS: Time) and Forky Asks a Question (Forky Q&A) and Toy Box world from Kingdom Hearts III (TS: KH) - plus Toy Story 1 Deleted Scenes (TS 1: Deleted) and Disney's Animated Storybook: Toy Story (TS 1: Storybook)
Happy upcoming New Year!,
Disclaimer (2): I didn't do research, this post doesn't contain arguments and real definitions, doesn't have justifications of interpretations, doesn't have statistics. This isn't a (real) scientific essay or persuasive writing. It's just an entirely subjective analysis. With this post I want to impress you on other levels, for exam
... keep reading on reddit β‘As 2021 draws to a close, we are once again presented with the opportunity to look back and see what this year had to offer musically. Much like last year, I will not be limiting myself to just power metal or even just metal, but will do the list in 3 categories. Feel free to just skip the ones you don't care for.
BEST METAL ALBUMS - Mostly power and power-adjacent
BEST NON-METAL ALBUMS
OTHER INDIVIDUALLY IMPRESSIVE STUFF (Singles, Christmas specials, guest performances,...)
Big thanks to /u/JacksonWarrior for preparing the weekly releases and the guys who were kind enough to write "no recs from me this week" every week ;) Also to anybody irl and online who was kind enough to recommend stuff personally, I deeply appreciate you.
Alright then, we're staying close to home and kicking it off with maybe the most divisive category.
#BEST METAL ALBUMS OF 2021
Power metal is dying and/or already dead, so I combined all metal sub-genres into one list. In all seriousness, 2021 was perhaps the worst year for power metal in recent memory and I say that knowing that last year was poor enough to make me do a joint list.
Side-note: I talk about power metal a quite a bit, it's all European style power metal, American style power metal is poop.
This time we have a nice little mix of Power, Folk, Black and Melodeath. If an album made it to the list, I would whole-heartedly recommend it, as I left out a bunch of albums that were "aight". The best of the rest are mentioned in Honorable Mentions.
#Honorable Mentions
#10. Seven Spires - Gods Of Debauchery - Power/Symphonic
For the second year in a row, Seven Spires make it to the album of the year post. Their previous album, Emerald Seas, was a massiv
... keep reading on reddit β‘This was originally just going to be an AOTY appreciation post, but the more I thought about why I like that album, the more I thought about why I like FNM as a whole (Chuck-era included, as well as Pattonβs other primary bands). Iβve spent a lot of time listening to all of these albums over almost 30 years, but the time Iβve spent listening to them during the pandemic has really given me a new appreciation and perspective (or my brain is turning to shit garbage).
So, itβs Spring 1998 and Iβm distraught that thereβs no more FNM in our collective future. This was before every single band was doing reunion tours and albums, so it felt pretty fucking final at the time. But had I known that in just a year weβd get the first FantΓ΄mas album AND California (probably my favorite album of all time, I bounce between it and KFAD), that definitely would have softened the blow. But there was no way to know what amazing shit was about to come, all I knew was that there were now a finite number of FNM albums, and AOTY had become a fucking tombstone!
In retrospect, I donβt see AOTY that way at all. I think these 3 albums compliment one another so incredibly well and also help me appreciate all of the others so much more. Try listening to AOTY, California, then FantΓ΄mas all the way through, back-to-back-to-backβ¦I know that isnβt the proper release order, but Goodbye Sober Day into that first FantΓ΄mas is amazing. KFAD and California might be my favorite standalone records, but the trio of AOTY, FantΓ΄mas, and California taken together is probably my favorite combination of albums. I canβt imagine making one of these records in the span of 2 years, let alone all 3! Bananas.
While this specific group of records is especially important to me, I think whatβs also become clearer is that my appreciation of all 3 of these BANDS, and Iβll throw Tomahawk in as well, is that they are all great at making thoughtful, cohesive ALBUMS, and thatβs really what I love about them. Sure, they write good songs too, but their strength is making great albums, best enjoyed as a whole piece. There are songs that I donβt quite love, but they do work much better in the context of their respective records than random shuffle (Iβd say the same for my favorites too; also why I donβt like the FNM best ofs). And while people might like certain FNM/Bungle/Fant/Tomahawk albums more than others, I think they all fit quite well within their respective discographies. I hate it when people shit talk the Chu

Plus a few other albums I just added feel free to give them a listen.
I'll try to keep updating the collection but it's gonna take a long ass time since my upload speed is garbage lol but until then I hope you enjoy this humble contribution.
Edit : post layout and spelling. Also turns out I didn't upload Miles Davis' entire discography just 3 albums
It really does, I swear!
Preface: Iβm torn about whether to continue to post these. I donβt mean to step on the toes of any of the officially sanctioned song discussion threads and I have a feeling many of you dramatically roll your eyes at the length of my overthought, overexplained, self-indulgent word salads. I finally decided to do at least one more β this one, specifically, at the request of u/standard_range3723 . If yβall really like them feel free to send requests, Iβve been through the entire Kyuss/QotSA/TCV discography several times over. If they bother you say so as well. You wonβt hurt my feelings. Iβll even bang one out and PM it to you if the community in general disapproves of me coming back in here on my bullshit. Iβve attempted to tone down of my vocabulary for fear of coming off as pretentious and hopefully the sprinkling of self-depreciating humor makes this one a little more fun to read β I had a blast writing it.
As always, below are my opinions, not facts. Song lyrics are subjective and designed to be interpreted by every individual listener. I welcome and encourage dissent. I post these merely for the sake of discussion, not to try to force my interpretation on anyone else. I learned a lot of super interesting things from the last thread and canβt wait to hear what everyone has to say about this phenomenal song.
So come on in from the desert, fire your bass player, tune down to C standard and get comfy. On this episode I will be discussing track 1 of Era Vulgaris: βTurninβ on the Screw.β

>You got the question? Please don't ask it

>It puts the lotion in the basket
To me, this conveys the feeling of being forced to conform by an overbearing and indifferent authority figure.
βYou got the question? Please donβt ask itβ sounds exactly like something a jaded and under-caffeinated substitute teacher would say to a student that she just wants to shut up. She isnβt really all that familiar with the curriculum anyway, sheβs just a substitute. She canβt believe they had the audacity to call her on her day off. Sheβs nursing a hangover, REALLY just wants a cigarette, and has had it up to here with Timmyβs critical thinking bullshit.
Iβm almost certain the βit puts the lotion in the basketβ line is a reference to a scene in the 1991 Blockbuster: The Silence of the Lambs. The victim of a psychopath is cast into the bottom of a pit as a form of prison. The psycho in

This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.
In 2021, during a bumper-crop year for live albums and collaborations, John Dwyer released an album called Endless Garbage. Though seemingly of-a-kind with the Bent Arcana and Moon-Drenched improv records, it's actually quite a different beast. As explained by the man himself, β...one day, I hear a frenetic, free drummer playing in his garage a few blocks from me. And I think βinterestingβ. I stand outside his garage staring at the wall, like a fool, for a minute, then decide to leave a note on the car parked there. This is how I ended up meeting and working with Ted Byrnes. He wasnβt creeped out, and he ended up sending me a pile of truly spontaneous drums recordings from the carport to work with. I decided to have every musician come in one at at time and just take a wild pass at their track over the drums. None of these people had ever met or played together. I was the connecting thread.β So, rather than a group playing together in a room, Dwyer presented each participant with the different drum tracks and had them freely improvise over it. He also added some of his own playing, and mixed/edited the whole project into something a bit more consistently interesting and intelligible.
When is a remix album not really a remix album?
In 1998, Bill Laswell released Panthalassa: The Music Of Miles Davis 1969-1974. Though it is ostensibly billed as a remix album, Laswell did far more than just add some beats here or there or elongate the music to danceable lengths. As Allmusic.com put it, he β...occasionally deleted the rhythm sections, brought up obscured instruments, added Indian and electronic droning sounds from elsewhere on the tapes, constructed moody transitions, and premiered previously unreleased passages from Davis' sessions.β This is interesting because in some sense this makes Panthalassa a remix of a remix. Much like what Can was doing contemporaneously in Germany, Miles Davis and resolute collaborator/producer Teo Marcero would edit down tapes of lengthy jams, sometimes repeating vamps/run throughs of different song sections, other times cross-editing different takes of songs together. A great example is found on the seminal Bitches Brew album. The song 'John McLaughlin' (which features no trumpet or playing from Miles Davis at all) is actually an edited excerpt of an especially great solo from McLaughlin during a take of the album's title track.
