A list of puns related to "Four dimensional space"
Found this article about scientists who created a light field that mirrors the structure of four-dimensional space. It's only in German, unfortunately, but there's a link to the original Nature publication in English at the end.
Now mind you i am just an armchair scientist but while i was reading the other day and listening to some you tube i had an odd thought/idea. I would not mind being proved wrong just ask everyone is polite if they do not or like this idea.
Now. 3d space is measured in width, height and length if i am correct. and i understand how that works. But humanity also has one more measurement. time.
Time itself is another dimension we travel and can be measured. so my thought was.. what if that's the 4th dimension and the reason we have some issues. i got more here just wanted see anyone thoughts.
From my limited understanding and reading, Iβm trying to understand this concept. Is four-dimensional space similar to a box within a box that rotates, flexes, or bends?
Thank you in advance!
We know some animals can interact/detect with magnetic fields and it isnβt fully understood. With all the talk about aliens having concerns with our nukes (because they damage more than we can perceive) it got me thinking, could humans have invisible aspects of our anatomy due to our inability to perceive a fourth dimension? What about animals?
How could we scientifically test for this?
If so, are there any videos on the internet explaining this or showing it being done?
I'm reading A Brief History Of Time, in chapter two Stephen mentions that in general relativity, bodies always follow straight paths in four dimensional space-time. He goes on to explain that Earth appears to us move in around the Sun in a curved path in our three dimensional space, using the example of how a plane moving in a straight line through three dimensional space can cast a shadow that moves on a curved path on hilly ground (two dimensions).
Can anyone explain to me why objects always move in a straight path in four dimensional space-time? What does this mean? Is it related to absolute speed of light? How is the mass of the sun related? Is the metaphor of the plane's shadow a good one?
I was thinking they would be able to see it from every angle at once (which is pretty hard to wrap my mind around.)
By βfour-dimensionalβ, I mean the three girls exist in four dimensions of space and one dimension of time as opposed to three dimensions of space and one dimension of time.
I was thinking about four dimensional space and was getting myself pretty confused. I realized that software might be able to help me "see it". Have there been any attempts to create some software that perhaps takes advantage of Oculus Rift technology or something of the like that could help in the visualization of 4-space. I think that being able to "interact" and develop some intuition is probably the best way to learn. Which is where this software becomes interesting, if it is possible.
Edit: A normal knot, tied with string, will unravel in the fourth dimension. (Just pull half of the string into the fourth dimension, and then, where the string normally crosses itself, it can pass through, because nothing would be occupying the same point in space. The knot then unravels). Can you tie a knot in 4-D space, using a flexible 2-D surface like paper, that would not come undone?
*string theory
It's certainly possible in theory that there are compacted or super large dimensions, but isn't a fourth or more just incoherent? Is there any reason to believe there could be a universe where it's really possible or is space... space?
Just overheard a coworker describe something as, "stable as a three legged stool." While I don't really understand what exactly he meant, it did spark the question
