A list of puns related to "FIBA"
>Steve Kerr lobbies for the NBA to adopt the FIBA rule of making the transition-stopping take foul a technical. Kerr: โItโs terrible. Itโs terrible for the game. Itโs terrible for the fans.โ He adds that he knows the NBA is โvery seriousโ about addressing it.

Joker, Luka, Vuc, both Bogies, Nurk, Dragic, Zubac, Bjelica, Saric. A little light on guard play down the roster but the top 8 match up against any other country, not to mention literally 2 of the best players in the world.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver spoke to the Italian newspaper 'Il Corriere della Sera' and gave some updates about the potential collaboration on a new European league with FIBA and EuroLeague.
> "With EuroLeague, we already played several preseason games with their teams. We gladly agreed to the invitation for a common table: the goal is not to take over Europe but to work together to improve the basketball environment of the continent. We can't wait to resume the talks", Silver said to the Italian newspaper.

Do you think NBA interference would help EuroLeague and European basketball?
With all the talk over a Midseason Tournament over the few days, I thought I would float around something that would be closer to what we see in soccer.
A two week, 16 team, International, professional basketball tournament consisting of group play and knockout rounds. Stay with me here. Before I dive into the specifics, I do know there is a talent gap between the NBA and other foreign leagues, and will address that at the end.
As far as it pertains to the proposed tournament, this is what it looks like:
No. of Teams: 16 (6 NBA Teams, 4 Euroleague Teams, 2 FIBA Asia Teams, 2 FIBA Oceania Team, 1 FIBA Africa Team, and 1 FIBA America Team (Non-NBA).
This provides a wide range of representation for professional Basketball leagues across world, while also being about to draw global interest into this product. This will be an important as FIBA and the NBA try to market this for media rights.
Locations: An Entire Country, rotating every year.
The goal is to market this tournament as a large Global event to foreign audiences, but you also want to provide incentives for players to participate. One of the biggest draws of Olympic and FIBA basketball for NBA players is the opportunity for Global marketing and endorsement deals. Players can make potentially millions of dollars being able to market to a new country or endorse a foreign product. Superstars given a chance in-season to increase their brand exposure is a major benefit, as it's usually something that is limited to the offseason while they are trying to rest and recover.
Tournament Structure: Group Play (4 Groups) consisting of 3 games. Top 2 seeds from each group advance. 8 team single elimination knockout play to follow.
Fairly simple. Follows the template set but most international team competitions.
Style of Play: FIBA Rules
This will be somewhat of an equalizer. NBA players often struggle to adapt quickly to the FIBA style of rules. They are shorting games, with a closer 3 point line, and more physical style of play. Fouls that normally get called in the NBA won't get called in FIBA competition. The pace of play is generally much slower and the court often feels much more crowded. This means that team play is often more successful than the isolationist style of play you see in the NBA regular season. Also, with no defensive 3 seconds, teams with larger players can really cause difficulties in the paint.
**Player Incentives: Progressively increasing pool of mone

>Couldnโt agree more! NBA should adopt SOME of these rulesโฆ Players are manipulating these rules WAY to much!
>FIBA rules are perfect. Less time, less reviews, more physical. Start a game and get it over with in 2 hours or less. If only the national basketball association could get a clue.
>The players are smart, taking advantage of a broken system. They need to stop getting rewarded, then the manipulation will end.
>I tell Refs this all the time.. Dont call it even if it is officially a foul.. Players will get mad then adjust! Refs listen to the league, has to start from the Top
Man of the people lol
Am I the only one noticing this with an emphasis on the refs? They let the players play and allow them to be physical. It was embarrassing seeing Team USA hunt for fouls then actually playing (Example Kevin Love trying to lean into a player for a foul). It was also nice not having the last minute of the game be hogged down by advertisements and reviews.
FIBA just allows guys to play more freely and doesn't punish them for making basic, not out of the ordinary contact, nor does it reward players for flopping and foul searching. I really wish this culture would be done away with. It's not fun to watch.
> "FIBA happened" - Luka Doncic yelled after I asked Ziga Dimec to summarise the end of the 4th quarter of the Olympics semifinal. Luka was raging in the mix zone and repeated several times that FIBA is happy about the result.
Luka Doncicโs disappointment with Sloveniaโs loss to France in the second Olympic Games semifinal was more than obvious in the finale with the Dallas Mavericks superstar also expressing his frustration on his way to the locker room.
After the end of the game, Doncic was shouting โFIBA is probably happyโ while walking through the media mixed zone per 15min. He was also reported to shout โFIBA happenedโ while Slovenia big man Ziga Dimec was being asked questions about the game.
Slovenia had several complaints with the officiating and particularly with a play halfway through the fourth period and the score tied at 78 where Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot blocked Jaka Blazicโs layup attempt. Blazic protested that it was a goaltending violation and he received a technical foul.
Doncic, who registered a historic third-ever triple-double in Olympic Games history, was often seen complaining to the referees throughout the game.
Nicolas Batum was the one to basically secure the win of France by blocking Klemen Prepelicโs attempt to win the match via a layup. Doncic complimented the French wing for this huge defensive play, calling it โan amazing blockโ while also expressing his appreciation for his words to him after the match.
โNicolas is a class act,โ Doncic said per FIBA. โHe told me he hates playing against me, but in a good way. That was nice of him, heโs just a class act.โ

Edited to eliminate ambiguity on how to watch
I just wanted to see if anybody who had access to Synergy would be willing to confirm that Synergy has the complete and accurate shooting data for high school, AAU, EYBL, FIBA, etc. From what I could gather, there's no single free site like there is w/Basketball Reference for NBA and Sports Reference for college hoops, to fact check data for high school prospects.
In particular I wanted to know the overall and individual 3pt shooting samples for Jalen Green in high school, AAU, EYBL, FIBA, etc.(basically everything before his time in the G League and NBA). From what I can tell the googable data is not 100% complete and I could only find info on Green's amatuer 3pt stats on MaxPreps, RealGM, and random tweets with his stats.
If someone is willing to either just type it out or even take a screenshot of Green's amatuer 3pt stats, I'd really appreciate it. Just wanted to see how accurate he was in each sample, and overall.
I just caught about 90 seconds of a summer league game. I watched a player bring the ball up the sidelines under pressure. There was minimal contact as he squeezed in between the sideline and the defender. The kind of thing that maybe goes uncalled in the playoffs and that FIBA completely ignores.
The ball handler threw his head back on that minimal contact. Obviously baiting as there was zero change in his momentum. And if there had been, it would have been getting slowed down which would throw his head FORWARD, not back.
And he got the call.
He got rewarded for an obvious foul bait that FIBA ignored every single time I saw someone try it.
I started to react with annoyance, and then realized I could simply turn off the TV, so I did.
And I think that is likely to be my response every time I see someone get rewarded for that going forward.
I was watching the Slovenia Lithuania game and the review process is night and day compared to the NBA. On a review for an offensive foul:
Play stopped for one minute max real time
The refs were micโd up and you could listen through their thought process to making the call
There was no slow motion, only 1x speed and rewind. I would imagine this prevents ridiculous calls like the Pat Bev/Devin Booker deflection.
It seemed to entirely fix every gripe I have with the NBA review process. What do you guys think?
For those unaware, there are four 6-team tournaments going on around the world right now (located in Canada, Serbia, Lithuania, and Croatia), and the winner of each tournament will qualify for the Olympics.
Each 6-team tournament was divided into two 3-team groups for round robin play, and the last place team in each group would be eliminated.
Canada Tournament
In Group A, Canada finish first at 2-0, Greece second at 1-1, and China was eliminated at 0-2 after getting blown out in both games. In Group B, Turkey finished first with Czech Repbulic in second, Uruguay was eliminated at 0-2.
Uruguay did have a spectacular fourth quarter comeback against the Czechs, down 14 with 7:30 left before falling just short with this shot rimmed out.
Semi-Finals: Canada vs. Czech Republic, Turkey vs. Greece.
Turkey/Greece should be a great matchup, and as a Canadian fan it made me feel good to see the Czech Republic get blown out by Turkey and struggle with a weak Uruguay squad. Anything can happen in single-game eliminations, but I think we'll see a Canada/Turkey final.
Croatia Tournament
Group A was extremely tight, with Germany coming first at 2-0 thanks to a pair of 4th-quarter comebacks and Mexico also qualifying at 1-1, meaning Russia is eliminated in a shocker. This makes back-to-back failures to reach the Olympics for Russia after winning bronze in 2012.
In Group B, Brazil blew the doors off both Tunisia (+26) and Croatia (+27) to win the group, and Croatia also advanced after barely escaping against Tunisia in a 5-point win.
Semi-Finals: Brazil vs. Mexico, Germany vs. Croatia. Brazil was the pre-tournament pick to get out of this group, and I think that still holds strong...not much more to add here.
Lithuania Tournament
In Group A, the host Lithuanians went 2-0, including a 39-point victory over South Korea. Venezuela took the second spot at 1-1, and South Korea was eliminated.
In Group B, Slovenia dominated with a 50-point win and a 35-point win to take the group, Poland finished second, and Angola (at a nice -69) was eliminated.
Semi-Finals: Lithuania vs. Poland, Slovenia vs. Venezuela. This group was always going to be Lithuania vs. Slovenia, and that's likely what we'll see as the finals. The Twin Towers of Sabonis and Valanciunas against Luka and friends. Slovenia is looking to qualify for the Olympics for the first time, while Lithuania will try to avoid failing to qualify for

> Luka Doncic was asked after the Slovenia game today if he's used to not getting "star" calls in FIBA like he does in the NBA.
> โI don't really get calls in the NBA, I don't think," he said, smiling.
Can Luka get fined in the off-season for this? /s
