Bars with Table Tennis or English Pool/Billiards

Hi,

Can anyone list some bars that have table tennis in Oslo? I know of Brygg and RΓ₯dhuset but am wondering if there's any others.

Also does anyone know of a bar that has English pool? Not American pool on the large tables, but English pool on a 6 foot by 3 foot table?

Thanks!

English Billiards practice

Hi, I've recently becoming enchanted with English Billiards and I am looking to become a more proficient player. I am wondering what the best way to go about practicing is. Are there any resources anyone can point me to for routines and exercises? Or is it a matter of playing with myself while replicating some shots I've observed by watching the World Championships and other professional matches? I feel like I could knock 3 balls around for hours and improve slightly but I'm not sure how to improve my shot selection.

If it helps, I am a 30+ snooker player and can just about manage a 20 billiards break from 10 total hours of practice.

The most important man in boxing history, as well as maybe sports history.

I'm talking about John Graham Chambers

A man you most likely have never heard of, I didn't till yesterday and since I have been absolutely fascinated with him for the past day, I thought I'd share who he is.

His importance on boxing cannot be overstated, he quite literarily established the rules of boxing. In 1867 he published the Marquess of Queensberry Rules, named after his famous elite friend solely for publicity and so people took it serious.

The 12 rules he established:

  • Rounds were to be 3 minutes, with 1 minute intervals in between.
  • No wrestling or hugging allowed
  • If either Boxer falls they have 10 seconds to get up or the other guy wins
  • A man hanging off the ropes in a helpless state is considered down
  • No other people other than the 2 boxers and the ref were allowed
  • If the contest is stopped by some outside entity, the fighters must either agree to when and where the rematch will be, or the backers of the boxers must agree to a draw
  • You now must use gloves
  • If a glove bursts off, it must be repaired to the ref's satisfaction
  • if a fighter's knee was on the ground he was considered down, and if you hit him you lose
  • for any other rules follow the revised rules of London Prize Ring (the somewhat established rules of prize fighting but still absolutely nothing close to boxing)

I want to stress on that last bullet point, before the Queensberry rules, boxing was absolutely nothing like what it is today. A round was not a set time, it was just only after someone went down. If a fight was never just 2 boxers in a ref in the ring, if there it was 2 fighters, 2 seconds (friends) of their choosing, 2 umpires, and then a ref agreed upon by the 2 umpires. But even that didnt happen most of the time. What im trying to get across is that before the Queensbury rules boxing was not boxing, no rounds, no gloves, you could legit grab the other person and try to throw him to the ground (which is what most fights turned into) it just wasnt boxing. And the bare knuckle braw type boxing did stick around for a little bit, but not only 3 decades after Queensberry established his rules, that type of boxing basically went extinct, despite being around for hundreds of years.

This one dude changed all that and established so many of the rules that make up the sport of boxing. He is to boxing what James Neimeth is to Basketball.

This alone I think without a doubt makes him the most impo

SERIOUS: This subreddit needs to understand what a "dad joke" really means.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

Translation of Peng Shuai's original post on Weibo

Hey, I know there's already a translation of Peng Shuai's post in this sub, and it's fairly good. However, I wanted to do a more direct, literal translation with annotations. Since this translation is more direct, the English will be pretty awkward, since I am prioritizing retaining the order and structure of her original post.

Edit: Addressing the criticism since I think it's valid. First of all, I have to admit that I'm not a professional translator, so there could be some mistakes. However, I wouldn't consider this an interpretation. In fact, I tried as best as I could to not interpret and only translate directly.

Unlike in English, most literate Chinese writers use a lot of set phrases (eg chengyu) so sometimes there's just no semantic equivalent. There are also cases where she relies on shared cultural knowledge to imply something, so I have to explain it.

The original post also has some referential ambiguity, which I indicated in annotations. Maybe you'd expect that someone talking about how they got raped would write more clearly, but this is just how she wrote. To me, it's an emotional appeal, an appeal to cultural values and norms, not a legalistic one.

Translation

I know (it) can't be said clearly, and saying it is useless. But I still want to speak. How unbearably hypocritical(1) I am. I admit that I am not a good girl. I am a very, very bad girl. About 3 years ago, Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli, you retired. You found Dr. Liu from the Tianjin Tennis Centre and contacted me (through him). Then you made an appointment to play tennis with me in the Kangming Building in Beijing(2). After we finished playing in the morning, you and your wife Kang Jie took me to your place. Then you took me to a room in your home, just like when we were in Tianjin over ten years ago, to have sexual relations with me(3).

(1) Hypocritical isn't an exact translation here. This word describes someone who pretends to have feelings or beliefs that they don't actually hold. Kind of like two-faced or politically duplicitous. Essentially, what she's saying is, since she's already admitting that she's a "bad girl", she doesn't feel like she has the right to complain about what has happened to her, but she's doing it anyway.

(2) Quick google search shows Kangming Dasha as a hotel in Wangfujing (area in Beijing). Not sure about this.

(3) She says this in a rather roundabout way: "you took me to a room... to have sexual relations occur on you and me". (I believe it's a stan

These aren't dad jokes...

Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.

This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.

If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.

Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.

Jump-shots on British balls

Hey guys!

I've been playing at this billiards hall where they have English-style balls only, meaning I've been playing with Snooker sized balls. I've been trying to perform jump-shots for a long time now, using my playing Cue, which is also a pretty standard snooker cue (9mm tip). I mostly can't pull the shots off, though it had worked very few times before. even going back to videos and guides and trying to see what I've been doing wrong.

So my question is: Can you even perform jump-shots on Snooker sized balls, with a snooker playing cue? or should I stop bothering altogether.

Thanks :}! 🎱

Does the savinelli dry system 614 pipe allow you to use a 9mm charcoal filter instead of their balsa?

When i was a boy I remember seeing my Nonnos pipes and thinking it was cool. My uncle stole them when my nonno died so i never got to have them however i wanted a nice italian pipe trio like he had.

Eventually im going to get a standard straight billiard and when i mature into smoking virginias and English blends however for a newbie starting off with aromatics is probably going to be what i do so i want a nice bent pipe that i can give to my future kids hense why i went with the 614.

Since im looking to buy a pipe for the first time this might be a stupid question but can i use the charcoal filters instead of the balsa filter?

Im only 23 so i want to minimize any damage to myself cause my father and nonno both had cancer and runs in both sides of the family and i know that the charcoal filters are the best filtering out tars and other chemicals (Plus i assume im going to be a wet smoker to start so I’ll probably run through alot of expensive balsa filters)
