So, I finally got a place to grow roses, and the the rose I most wanted was 'Lady Emma Hamilton' by David Austin roses. Only, they discontinued it last year. There's a bunch of other places supposedly offering it, but it looks like they were all selling on stock propagated by David Austin. I think propagating it myself is the only hope. Is anyone currently growing this and willing to send me cuttings? I'm very happy to pay P&P of course, maybe a swap for something interesting if you'd like, and walk you through selecting cutting material if you need it. It'll only be what you would normally prune off anyhow.
I saw a couple online post/write-ups about the two subject roses being phased out of the catalogue for DA roses as I was doing some searching. Not sure if this is a rumor or when this will be happening? It appears to me at least I can currently pre-order these two roses for 2021 in U.S. These were actually two I was considering after falling in love with other DA roses I got this year.
I've been reading Austen recently and thought an interesting parallel between Jane Austen's Emma Woodhouse and Lady Mary - two very wealthy female characters in English society, albeit seperated by about a hundred years.
Emma is interesting as it's Austen's only novel which involves a female protagonist who is wealthy, (her inheritance of £30,000 would be appprox USD $40,000,000 - $50,000,000 today!! This is what makes her and Lady Mary's (and the Grantham family) stories very interesting and fascinating to read about and watch - the amount of power that the upper class held in their time.
And of course how headstrong both Emma and Lady Mary are.

Longines 14k rose gold - Runs and keeps time. Serial number 7009695 manufactured in 1945. Square design bezel measures 14.5mm x 14.5mm, 5.2mm thick, 9.4mm thick including crystal. 29.7mm long to first loop, 49.5mm long total to band that is marked Champion 1/20 10k GF. Fits a wrist roughly 50mm in diameter. Clasp works with safety chain. 15.5 grams total, movement plus back casing is 5 grams, back casing is 1.8 grams. I can't weigh the front bezel by itself as it's attached to the band. 4 diamonds and 6 rubies along the top and bottom. Minute hand is broken off at the very end, it should come to a point, but instead is blunt. Watch face has scuffs and scratches, crystal has nicks. Inside of back casing has etchings of prior servicing (in the 1950s). Would benefit with a servicing and cleaning. Good condition/refurbished examples of these watches appraise for over $1000 in replacement value. Asking $190.
Hamilton 14k white gold - Needs a bit of coaxing to get running, but when it does it stays running and keeps time, so long as you don't move it around. A gentle push on the balance will get it going. From the 1940s, movement is called a "911." Good, clean condition consider its age. Nearly square design, bezel measuring 13.4mm wide x 14.7mm tall, 6mm thick, 8.4mm thick with crystal, total length is 32.6mm to band that is made by Speidel (base metal) spring loaded and will fit a wide variety of wrists. 15.5 grams total, movement plus back casing is 5.2 grams, back casing is 1.8 grams. I can't weigh the front bezel by itself as it's attached to the band. 8 diamonds total, 4 on top, 4 on bottom. Crystal has nicks, watch face and hands are pretty clean and in good shape. Needs servicing to keep running constantly as it should, I don't suspect it's anything major. Asking $130.
