April 25, 1948 | Funeral oration of His Excellency Elpidio Quirino, President of the Philippines, at the necrological services for the late President Manuel Roxas, held at the session hall of the House of Representatives, Lepanto, Manila

> History will honor Manuel Roxas for his versatile achievements. It will honor him as a soldier. It will honor him as a statesman. It will honor him as a patriot. It will honor him as the Father of the Republic of the Philippines. Above all else, it will honor h.im because he had the vision to see clearly the reconstruction of a country cruelly devastated by war and the courage to meet the crisis with firmness and audacity. A hundred years’ from now Filipinos will thank God on their bended knees that Manuel Roxas was in MalacaΓ±an to give clarity to the confused thoughts of his people and the leadership to elevate their prostrate country at the most critical time. > > Β  > His assigned work was nobly begun. We can truly honor him only by continuing it with the same patriotic and disinterested devotion, I, therefore, call upon every Filipinoβ€”man, woman or child, of every creed and station in life throughout our beloved landβ€”to join me in a sincere spirit of national unity to construct a massive monument of deeds in the bold pattern of his ideals in loving dedication to his revered memory. The present troubled world situation requires that we make this high resolve, brushing aside petty differences, selfish motives and personal ambitions, for the sake of national tranquility and security and for the progress and happiness of our people. My fellow countrymen, as we pray for the eternal repose of our departed illustrious friend, may I also fervently pray in his name and on behalf of posterity that we all heed the call of this hour.

When was the true golden age of the Philippines?

Obviously, as much as Marcos apologists would like to paint a pretty picture of the Philippines during those years, hindi talaga eh. Though, having said that, when was it, really?

I would imagine it would be sometime post-WWII and pre-Martial Law. Our presidents during that time were Serigio Osmena, Manuel Roxas, Elpidio Quirino, Ramon Magsaysay, Carlos P. Garcia, Diosdado Macapagal, and Ferdinand Marcos.

I'm not great with Philippine history but I was always under the impression that the early 50s to the mid 60s is when the Philippines was really flourishing. Would love to hear from those who know more.

[The Pacific Renaissance] 2041 Philippine presidential election

After the last poll had been concluded, the moment that you're all been waiting for! It will be the poll for the 2041 Philippine presidential election! The poll for the 2041 Philippine presidential election will be open to vote for members to know who they will be going with. After this poll, it is possible that there will be fictional characters that I will be putting up for the future posts in this series, but stay tuned for that as I want to make this universe more interesting. So, sit back, relax and enjoy reading this lore before you vote!

DECLINE OF THE OLIVAREZ ADMINISTRATION

After winning the 2038 Philippine presidential recall election in a shocking upset, Edwin Olivarez would be inaugurated on September 30, 2038 at the Quirino Grandstand alongside newly elected Vice President Junard Chan. People said that Olivarez is soft FSEA-skeptic as he’s less hostile to the FSEA, but he didn’t consider holding a referendum on the membership of the Philippines in the federation because he cited issues on the membership, especially that the Philippines must require to re-join the ICC and improve ties with fellow Southeast Asian countries. His first order is to investigate against former President dela Rosa, which was successful in the following year when the Supreme Court had found dela Rosa guilty for corruption and mishandling of the police system, thus he’s sentenced to life imprisonment for 5 years. Throughout the year 2039, he made several laws that focused in improving relations for the common people as well as maintaining neutrality with FSEA through bilateral talks with Thailand and Malaysia. In the 2040 FSEA Parliament election in the Philippines, his party PDP-Laban failed to defeat the ASEAN Alliance for Filipinos where they were defeated in almost the entire country except for Soccsargen and Bangsamoro. His term became rockier than expected due to his stance of being soft FSEA-skeptic politician as he wanted to only challenge the FSEA with his own list while denouncing any chance of conducting a second referendum.

The Olivarez administration was less controversial, to say the least, but they received backlash from PDP-Laban members when they are questioning about Olivarez's decision to challenge the elections over holding a referendum, which leads to PDP-Laban starting to squabble against each other between soft FSEA-skeptic members and hard FSEA-skeptic members. After falling down in the 2040 FSEA Parliament election in the Philippines, PDP-Lab

[EVENT] Philippine Elections on 1946 and Independence

April 30th, 1946: Philippine Elections.

As established on December 27th 1945, and confirmed by the Philippine congress at the start of this year, elections were held for the Presidency and the Philippine Congress. Three candidates were nominated for President. The Partido Nacionalista stuck by incumbent President Sergio Osmena, representing the conservatives in the ruling party. The Liberal wing of the party meanwhile held its own convention on January 26th, nominating its own candidates. Most importantly the Liberal wing chose Manuel Roxas as their own candidate for the Presidency, along with Elpidio Quirino for the vice Presidency. This split between the conservative and Liberal wings of the party comes from years of unresolved differences between the two wings, and marks the beginning of a formal separation of the two. Amongst the minor parties only one, the Partido Modernista, chose to nominate its own candidate for the Presidency, Hilario Camino Moncado. Other parties chose largely to endorse one of the two Nacionalista candidates, most notably the left wing alliance Democratic Alliance (backed by the Guerilla Hukbalahap movement and the Partido Komunista ng Pilipinas) endorsed President Osmena.

The campaign itself was fought largely between the two nationalist wings. Osmena chose to actively not campaign, declaring the 'Philippine people know my record in service of the country.'. Roxas meanwhile ran a strong campaign, backed by the largest national newspaper in the country (which coincidentally he owned) and the General Douglas McArthur of thee United States (who viewed Roxas as the best option for American Security in the region). With both these tools, and Osmena effectively refusing to campaign, Manuel Roxas secured electoral victory on April 23rd 1946, 34 provinces and 54% of the electorate voted for the Liberal candidate. Osmena put up respectable numbers for someone who didn't campaign, drawing 45% of the vote, while the Modernistas received a mere 0.35% of the vote. Results in congress showed a similar swing. In the Senate Liberal candidates were returned to 8 of the 16 contested seats, while the Nacionalistas only returned 7 (the final seat going to popular front candidate Vincente Soto.). The Nacionalistas maintained a slim majority of 1 in the senate. In the House of representatives meanwhile the Liberals stormed through to receive 49 of the 98 seats. The Nacionalistas previously clear majority was gone, the party reduced to opposit

SERIOUS: This subreddit needs to understand what a "dad joke" really means.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

Opinion to The Third Republic? Philippines before the Marcos Regime.

The Third Republic started on July 4,1946 when the Philippines was granted full independence from the US. The Inaugural president of the Third Republic is Manuel Roxas. He was a part of the Liberal Party during his Administration. The government Recieved aid from the Americans to rebuild the Country after its destruction in WW2, He also acquired the Turtle island and Mangsee island from Britain, during his time that the Leninist Guerilla group known as the Huks started to appear in country side and he also signed a treaty which the country was forced to lease the Subic Naval Base, Clark Airfield and Sangley Point among others to the US for 99 years. He did not finish his term as he died 1 year after the independence at Clark air Base in Angeles and Elpidio Quirino took over after Roxas died. During Quirino's term The Huks intensified and the 1949 Elections was marred with Electoral Fraud and Supressing his Opponents and was also known in history as the Dirty Election of 1949 and was Corrupt. He also had great policies as during his term that the economy of the country is back in shape, he also started Social Welfare program in the country most notably Social Security. He also sent troops in Korea as a part of UN Police force during the Korean war. In 1953 Quirino was defeated by Former Defense secretary Ramon Magsaysay by a Landslide with Magsaysay took 68% of the Vote and Quirino only received 31% of the vote. Magsaysay a Nacionalista was the first President to wear a Barong Tagalog. During his Term Ramon Magsaysay was the one who took down the Huks as he promised land Reform to the peasants, and Opened MalacΓ£nang palace to the public and during his term the country saw its golden age in economy. While Magsaysay helped the poor, he was a Staunch Anti-Communist and a Friend of the United States. But Tragically on March 16, 1957 his Plane Crashed at Mt Manunggal in Cebu. All 25 out of 26 Passenger are dead Including President Magsaysay and Only the Journalist Nestor Mata survived the Crash and Vice President Carlos Garcia was Sworn in as the President of the Philippines the next day. During Garcia's Administration He implemented the Filipino First Policy in Which Filipino Businessman is a Priority before the Foreigners and the Bohlen- Serrano Agreement was signed to shorten the 99 Year lease to the US bases to 25 Years. In 1961 he was defeated by his Vice President Diosdado Macapagal. During his term Magapagal a Liberal Party member was marred by Corrup

Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.

If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
