A list of puns related to "Ellen and William Craft"
This was mentioned in their slave narrative because Ellen was a quadroon and she could βpassβ. However that wasnβt what they were talking about. They also mentioned that occasionally white children would be kidnapped and sold into slavery, Iβm guessing as quad/octoroons.
Below is a relevant passage
> Notwithstanding my wife being of African ex-traction on her mother's side, she is almost whiteβin fact, she is so nearly so that the tyrannical old lady to whom she first belonged became so annoyed, at finding her frequently mistaken for a child of the family, that she gave her when eleven years of age to a daughter, as a wedding present. This separated my wife from her mother, and also from several other dear friends. But the incessant cruelty of her old mistress made the change of owners or treatment so desirable, that she did not grumble much at this cruel separation. It may be remembered that slavery in America is not at all confined to persons of any particular complexion; there are a very large number of slaves as white as any one; but as the evidence of a slave is not admitted in court against a free white person, it is almost impossible for a white child, after having been kidnapped and sold into or re-duced to slavery, in a part of the country where it is not known (as often is the case), ever to recover its freedom. I have myself conversed with several slaves who told me that their parents were white and free; but that they were stolen away from them and sold when quite young. As they could not tell their address, and also as the parents did not know what had become of their lost and dear little ones, of course all traces of each other were gone.
Is this true? If so, how common was it?
I recently got to learn the story of William and Ellen Craft which took place during the mid 1800s. I have linked the wiki but the TL;Dr version is
Ellen was a light skinned slave and married William Craft. They Fled the South in the most stunning way: Ellen looked white and disguised herself as a man and William was his slave. The story is remarkable, but they eventually arrived in Boston. Bounty hunters were sent to bring them back to their slave owner. Bostonians harassed and obstructed these bounty hunters in every way including heckling them, giving them wrong directions and throwing items at them. The bounty hunters eventually gave up and the Crafts remained free.
I post this because I am relatively new to Boston (3 years) but never knew the history this city had protecting people being persecuted. I don't know how well known their story is but I hope at least one person appreciates this city a little more like I did after hearing their story.
Here is the wiki: the escape and disguise Ellen Craft took on is amazing.

Even if behind doors, she isn't as big of a bitch as Wendy Williams. Fake nice is the shittiest, especially when your entire brand is the motto that we should be kind to one another. Hypocritical people are especially repugnant.
He was accusing them of stealing an Aloe Vera backpack that had his last toilet paper in it at a party at Jay Zβs house.
