I know Effy's character is manipulative and rude, but I don't understand why so many people love Tony but hate Effy.
Is it because so many people idolize Effy and that gets annoying?
They came from the same background so of course they'll both be screwy. Tony did the same things (if not worse as far as reasoning goes) than what Effy did.
Tony was motivated by power and control, whilst Effy was motivated by love, and wanting to feel loved. Both did crappy things to get what they wanted no matter who they hurt.
They both eventually had to come to terms with their issues and try to change that for themselves and everyone around them. So to me they're like two sides of the same coin, and if you dislike Effy it would only make sense to also dislike Tony. If you like one but not the other it just seems like a double standard is placed.
But maybe it's simply a personality thing? I'd say Tony has- or at least shows- more personality than Effy, so that I get.
Curious what someone with a differing opinion thinks though. Maybe you love Effy and dislike Tony, or hate Effy and like Tony? Just curious on the thought process behind it.

For those of you who have never seen skins: manipulative, a bit of a mess, not in a good mental place, badass, sexy, rulebreaker but not obvious (she would rarely get detention, never pick on anyone, but commonly sneak out after curfew to wander the halls or go out in hogsmede, drinks and smokes underage, etc), likes having boyfriends, actually quite quiet but can argue when necessary, ruthless, befriends the weird person (snape), a riot, popular. Bit of a slytherin, tbh.

I'm just making this thread to let out my thoughts after reading so many comments on Youtube and here about how Effy's incredibly selfish and narcissistic - and I just feel like we're observing two different characters. Effy was not perfect, but none of the characters was either. But she was not selfish. Nor was she a drama queen.
I could just leave this thread with a link to Effy's season two episode which would sum everything up.
Having self-confidence, and a good sense of boundaries does not make one selfish. Effy was never insecure, and that should be admirable, not frowned upon. And with that confidence, she knew not to be walked all over. And one of the main traits about Effy that people tend to ignore is that she's a huge introvert. Yes, everyone knows her and yes she goes to parties - but she's always preferred her own company, and would only accept a select few into her circle. Her brother, Freddie and Pandora were the few people she truly cared about.
She's also mentally ill and quite severely at that (suffering from hallucinations from a very young age). Emotions are terrifying to her and she's through and through an escapist due to it. And this running away from emotions can make someone incredibly unequipped to deal with other people's emotions as well (you have to be able to get into an empathetic state to help someone emotional).
People keep saying she was selfish: using Freddie and Panda as examples of it.
Freddie came onto her, strongly. He liked her from day one because she.. stared at him. But she didn't mind, in fact, she was so used to being seen as a sex object than when Freddie showed genuine interest in her, I think it fucked with her a lot. It was sweet and she liked it but that would have required her to get in touch with her emotions. So she ran away from him and had sex with Cook instead.
But Freddie still kept insisting. Kissing her at the lake even when she said no to his advancements multiple times. So she went ahead and met Cook that night to deal with her feelings about what happened.
The night at the forest where she had sex with Freddie was not right (and I pity Katie) but she was not in the right state of mind already and was already showing signs of early onset psychosis at that point. And then they took weed and shooms..
At some point, she started to feel safe with Freddie and they started dating. But that triggered a full blown psychotic episode in her. Which was what she was avoiding in the previou
